From the general look of it, it seems like maybe even the "live" parts of it were recorded beforehand- but still recorded live, similar to a pre-recording of the National Anthem for the Superbowl.

@colombiatm I think parts of it are from the original, but this kind of song has so many overlapping harmonies that they had to retain parts of it so that she could sing with it. From the general look of it, it seems like maybe even the "live" parts of it were recorded beforehand- but still recorded live, similar to a pre-recording of the National Anthem for the Superbowl.

This is not live at all!!! Its a pre-recorded track that's why its not like the album version....But this pre-recorded track she is been using it for other heartbreaker performances back then.I have been watching all her videos so i know what i am talking about!

I dont care what you think you know.This perfomance is live! back then, she was able to replicate the studio version! and with ease!! When she lips, I have no probblems with it.Shes done it alot and has every single artist in the world!.....I dont care if she does.She has nothing to prove... Shes been in the game for 20 years..

Mariah Carey has never been good at lip-syncing because she made it so blatantly obvious! She never moves around like that when she is concentrating on singing.. Its not the same as the original track but she has rerecorded it and is pretending to sing that in this video, fair enough if her biggest fans want to believe she never lip synced but the truth is she did, its nothing to be upset about as she is still the most successful female artist in the industry and I love her anyway lol!

sum fans r delusional and "mariah is always live" others (like myself) realise that even in the late 90s she lipped sum performances. i'm not attacking her for it but it's a fact. as an mj fan i no he used to lip sync a lot from 1990 onwards. i dont deny that but he DID dance most of the time. mariah has less of an excuse. she doesn't dance much she shud sing live. obsessed and know what love is...were 100% live recently maybe shes turned a new leaf

Lol at the excitement of these haters over the fact that Mariah lip syched to a pre-record! Get over it. Everyone in the biz does it. Anyway, Mariah looks damn amazing here! I never was a fan of her looks in the Rainbow era but she looks great here.

the exact term is "pre-recorded". before the actual telecast, she sings and records the song live once or twice, and then she'll choose on which is better and lipsync along to it on the actual telecast. it's the done thing now in the music biz.

@lubuoo- well actually, i'm not an expert or anything, but it's pretty obvious that some parts of this performance is live, but predominantly it's pre recorded. don't get me wrong, i'm a BIG BIG BIG mariah fan, but i'm also objective.

no its not live and that ok. she sings live on tour but like many other ppl she DOESNT sing live here. totp was well known to ask ppl to perform pre-recorded tracks. she isnt lip syncing the original she pre-recorded these vocals!!!
