Many individuals choose to wear a mask mainly to "prevent" spread of sickness, either to or from such individual. The action is seen as socially responsible instead of disgust as seen in many western civilization. The problem is the mask they wear are many times cosmetic due to inferior fabric / filter and do little to prevent the spread of bacterias / virus.
