you use the d pad to move it up down left or right after you hit the coin block and it apears. i usually hit the p switch then jump on the blocks it transforms into and control it while im on it so it will line up with the hole perfectly

oh man i NEVER knew that! That makes everything so much easier...I would always have the cape on, and fly while crouching to get through the little opening for the key...ALL THESE DAMN YEARS OF STRUGGLE...lol
