  • WILL this is fantastic! Really! Love the mandolin :D

  • Listened to this about 9 times in the past day, even snagged it for my Ipod hope ya don't mind. ^_- Good stuff man :)

  • I'd take you to play in my corridor any day.

  • This is just amazing! You're incredibly good.

  • Is this about death?

  • @Nannirk Yep!

  • And the community of youtube women just let out a collective squeal of delight. Beautiful job, my friend.

    -Miles

  • You have a lovely voice. I've been listening to this song off and on for the past 2 days. Write more songs in this style. Please?

  • @cding12 Thanks for the compliment! There will definitely be more songs similar in style to this, of that I can promise :)

  • genious. i'm watching this for the second time, and it's even better than the first. thank you, thank you, thank you :)

  • this song is wonderful, just like you

  • This was really great!

  • Building. Place. Very pretty.

  • oh-so beautiful! and the reverb in that hallway! exclamation marks!!!

That said, it did take me two plays to appreciate the song... there's a very pronounced pitch difference between your singing and the mandolin, and unfortunately it meant that I couldn't hear the lyrics until I wasn't in danger of waking my mother by up-ing the volume =P

  • Take note, I'm guessing Mandolins will take the Ukulele's place now

  • @WillsOdyssey That's really amazing! Really looking forward to it.

Especially as one of my other YouTube heroes is producing it!

Best of luck with that then!

  • Lovely! The feel of the environment enhances that of the song. Is that a normal flat what people live in? I don't think we have such architectural beauty in my country :-)

  • That's some nice mandolin playing, Will!

  • that was amazing i really enjoyed that song...

  • A beautiful video, a beautiful mandolin, and a beautiful sweater.

  • I seriously cannot stop watching this.

  • I have watched this at least 10 times. Does that make me a creep?

    Yes.

  • Love the riff in this, very enjoyable.

  • A mandolin? And I thought Will couldn't get awesomer. Silly me.

  • I really loved this!!

  • THIS IS WANTAGE!!! :O I live there!! also, it's amazing =D

  • @lavaredshrub You do? Now? Where/who are you?

  • @WillsOdyssey yeah, I'm in new court, you might have seen me around, but prob have no clue who I am! lol... i might wave at you next time I see you if I can gather enough courage!

  • THIS IS WANTAGE!!! :O I live there!!

  • Thank you for all the lovely comments everyone! This was essentially our first take. Will is amazing. We had a massive curry just before this, so the fact that he could STILL do all that is rather bloody awesome. :)

  • you have a nice instrument :)

  • absolutely fantastic :)

  • Where do I start?

    1. Loved the camera work. I'm not sure if it's you're new camera or if it's -whathizface's and he did this with you.

    2. For those of you who haven't had to work with musicians before, it's REALLY HARD to play a song like that all the way through, in one take, much less with a camera zooming around and trying to perform... in the middle of a hallway. Mad props to ya, mate.

    3. I admire/hate your ability to use so many artistic styles, one right after the other.

  • @EricB12345678 Your comment was wonderful, and i'll answer it as best as i can!

    1. The camera is Sam's, who was the guy filming (you should subscribe to him) so while it looks lovely, not all of my videos will look this shiny.

    2. I was really surprised that we got this video down in near enough one take- we did two practice shots to get the intro timing sorted, and then just did it in one. Still, it is normally much more difficult.

    3. I'd prefer admiration, personally :)

  • This video made me so happy. I love that you stopped putting up your music on a different channel and are confident that your subscribers will pretty much love whatever you do. :)

  • @TheRydog100 I think putting my music on this channel was one of the best things I ever did really.

  • Some people migth think that this is a depressing song, but its really not! I love it so much! I also like how it isnt a love song. you start to get tried to those after a while.

  • @artsybookworm Yes! You got it right away! I'm so glad you can see how it could potentially be heard as depressing, but it's ultimately a joyous song :)

  • I love the song. Thank you so much for doing all this work so that I could hear it.

  • @melodychef It's no problem at all :)

  • Samuel has skillz. Oh and you too, of course. :)

  • u make love to that ukelele!

  • @watchdog2007 Well, I would make love to that Ukulele if it wasn't a Mandolin :)

  • This was amazing!

  • you......are......awesome!!! (for lack of a better critique)

  • fab acoustics sir! good venue choice

  • This is amazing :) now i really want to learn how to play mandolin!

  • @llamaindisguise Do it! The world needs more mandolin! Also cowbell.

  • @WillsOdyssey @ llamaindisguise SNL FTW

  • Novel (but great) way to film it, tayls1993 never ceases to amaze me. The song was awesome too, I'd buy it!

  • @MillionMilesAnHour Sam's so awesome it hurts! And you may well get the chance to buy this track soon ;)

  • I love it when people play and walk at the same time! :D And the song was great to! ;D

  • I love it when people can walk and play at the same time :D It looks so cool!

  • I mean, for some reason, I thumbnail looked pretty cool. Then I realize that this is the first original you've played with a mandolin and then I'm observing the cool choreography and how sick the setting is and how awesome the playing/beat/lyrics are and then I see in the description that Sam filmed it and I was a loss of words. So this made little sense. But basically, so much contributed to this being one of the raddest things ever.

  • @emmfan09 I've never seen the words 'sick' or 'raddest' be used in a YouTube comment before, and I'm honoured that they were both used by you on my video :)

  • this made me so happy.

  • I'm so glad that I clicked on this in my subscriptions box.

    This made my day brighter.

  • @sorryaboutthedoom Aww thanks! I'm always happy to provide brightness!

  • Wow. Just wow. That's absolutely stunning.

  • @emmahke I typed in the same comment, word for word, but then I saw that you'd already said that, so I decided to 'vote up' yours instead. :3

  • @emmahke You're easily pleased. You can stay :)

  • awesome song it sounds really good.

were you playing live or you record it and made a video for it?

  • @GilF3rrand This was all live and done in one take; I'd only ever dub a music video if it was the music video for a recorded album song, but stuff like this is most definitely live :)

  • this is so lovely will,

    some serious mandolin skillz.

    #swoon

  • AWESOME SONG!

  • amasing Will. Keep going

  • I really like your music style. lyrics, melody, voice = perfect mix

  • @UnParapluieBleu Thanks! It's good to know that I'm finally getting the mix right :)

  • What Uni are you at?

  • @Mouldy96 I'm at Reading Uni :)

  • Mandolin, an instrument that doesn't get nearly enough play. (Get it?!)

Awesome song, Will, as always. I never stop watching something from you without a smile on my face. Even when I'm feeling down beforehand.

  • @gdarrowood I appreciate your Mandolin-playing related pun! Also, I'm glad to bring you smiles :)

  • awe-some, as in, actually in awe.

    2 dislikes? WTF!

  • Very nice. =)

  • This song is awesome! Will are you ever planing to release an EP of your collections of songs you made over the years?

  • @slylink690 As I've said a few times already in the comments (that's not a dig at you- I like repeating it) I'm currently working on a short folk EP to release hopefully in the next couple of months, and a rock album later on in the year :)

  • I love how Sam shot this! Brilliant.

  • Aweosme! What insturment isa that though? I'm not that cultural to know! xD (check out my channel please) :D

  • @WillsOdyssey Ah, that's it, I knew I heard it before. And I new the video was new within the last few days. ;)

  • amazing!

  • @lucasgabd Thanks!

  • where was this filmed will? it looks very historical, maybe a university?

  • @Dach1171 Yes, this was filmed in my halls of residence at Reading University :)

  • This would be a wonderful way to wake up. I expect you outside my door at 6:30 sharp.

  • @nintendolad I'll be there!

  • -coughs; For this occasion I composed a haiku. If you say it's not a haiku, you have no idea, what a haiku is. Or do you?

Watching a nerd with a mandolin

reflecting on his own fear of death

and being forgot is like eating biscuits.

  • @Lasur2004 I greatly respect your Haiku writing skills, and you win an imaginary prize for being the first person to write a Haiku as a comment on one of my videos.

  • @WillsOdyssey I'll put my imaginary prize in my imaginary toilet, for my imaginary friends and family to see.

  • Can you ever make a cd with all the original songs you've made. I think there would be millions of people wanting to buy it as much as I do! :D

  • @Kamukissa I'm currently working on a Folk EP to be release at an unspecified point in time in the not so distant future, and later on in the year I'll hopefully be recording an album with Tom Milsom producing it :)

  • @vronaqueen La Blogotheque style is exactly what we were going for, so you just made my life by saying that.

  • 0 dislikes? The world isn't as mad as I thought.

  • @kateroonistudios Tears for Fears had it all wrong!

  • @WillsOdyssey I am sorry, but I must ask: what did Tears for Fears have wrong? Also, very good song. I enjoyed it immensely. Though I take some issue with the small bit of philosophy you introduced in your lyrics. However, since there is such a minute amount, I am not quite sure if I understood accurately. But if I do get what you're trying to say, I agree to an extent. Yet meaning is as length: it exists only as a set of comparisons. What do you compare to the life of a man?

  • @Throrindor I'm not sure if I'm answering your question, and I get that you were asking him, but, as I understand it, the song is talking about how we're only a drop in the ocean and that the span of our lives is very short. We oughtn't to think too much of ourselves, 'cause the world was spinning before we came on the scene and will continue afterwards. Hence, "I could be a philosopher, for I think therefore I shrink and fade away" (and obviously it's a reference to Descartes).

  • @xShlingAttackx You didn't quite answer it (for it was more of a general challege to ponder than a specific inquiry to be clarified), though I greatly appreciate that you attempted(:

Basically, it comes down to this: a measured amount (e.g. height, time, and even meaning) can seem both big and small depending upon what you compare it to. It is entirely a matter of perspective (i.e., there is no right/wrong answer). Therefore, we must see how we see fit (i.e., how that view affects our lives).

  • @Throrindor Exactly. ^^, However, because we see everything from our point of view, we're naturally biased to believe we're the main character in the play of life etc. and the song seems to be directed to someone who thinks that they're more important than others.

  • @Throrindor The Tears for Fears comment was a reference to the use of the phrase 'Mad World' in @kateroonistudios' comment. I get what you mean about the philosophy, but it's really not meant to be that deep- all I was going for is that the more I think about it, the more I realise how insignificant we all are. Nonetheless, I appreciate your input!

  • @WillsOdyssey Your Tears for Fears comment made my 9 and a half days. ( What? I count my time differently than others.) :)

  • @kateroonistudios now it has two which sadly proves your statement to be wrong :(

  • i like this one.

i like that i've been there.

    #creeper

  • @hopeonatenspeed I like that you've been there too ;)

  • Loved it!

  • @lydz25 Thank you!

  • That was..... absolutely awesome. *replays video* :)

  • @janettesacdalan Feel free to replay as many times as you want ;)

  • Fantastic song!

  • @IntenseBrilliance Thanks!

  • This song... wow. I think it's something that we all think about and fear in our own ways. WELL done.

Please let us buy this song. I would love to own it.

  • @laurenmishele I'm glad you like it enough to want to pay for it, but you'll have to wait. I'm putting a shiny version of this on a Folk EP I'm working on at the moment (no idea when it will be finished), so that's when you can get it :)

  • You're a man of your word, Mr. Dixon! Truly an awesome song and fantastic video.

  • @NF321 Thanks man!

  • You are so wonderfully talented Will ^_^ Are you going to have the songs you make available on iTunes?

  • @reianaisawesome This song is actually going to be on a folk EP I'm working on at the moment, which is why I haven't made it available to download already, but yes, eventually you can buy the shiny version for yourself :)

  • That was some lovely mandolin jamming.

  • @animeotaku All Mandolin jamming is lovely jamming, purely because it's the Mandolin :)

  • Will, that was amazing, thank you for sharing it!

  • @Bananarama842 Thank you for enjoying it!

  • wow, you have legit talent. ten points to you sir!

  • @thecolormaria Yes! I love points!

  • That was fantastically original and just plain WONDERFUL!

  • @TooManyHips I appreciate you.

  • mind = blown Will the mandolin just threw me over the edge i am now in love with you :)

  • @Bloodisspilt Ha! I didn't know the Mandolin wielded such power!

  • Lovely. Simply brilliant. I quite enjoyed your lyrics, the mandolin is one of my favourite instruments, the video was well done, it was all just lovely. (:

  • This is unbelievable. Nice job!!! And nice job to @tayls1993 too for the cinematography!!! I could listen to this all day!

  • @Schubes17 Thanks man! I highly endorse the continuous watching of this video all day every day for the entire week.

  • I love your voice. It's amazing and the lyrics are so mindblowing!

  • @MadamePeppermint Thank you so much!

  • Your best songwriting yet.

  • @thepeteris Thanks Peter! I actually wrote this song over a year ago, but I still consider it to be one of my favourites.

  • @thepeteris Also, I thought the lyrics would appeal to you, so yeah :)

  • mandolins are the best.

  • @campbelltron They really are the best.

  • When are you making a CD? Sign me up for one!

  • @tdot430 This will actually be on my folk EP that I'm working on at the moment, so provided you can wait for that, that'll be along at some point :)

  • I find this oddly uplifting!... really loving this song!

  • @SamiSioux Yeah, the idea of the song is that it's essentially really bleak, but ultimately uplifting, so I'm glad you picked up on that :)

  • MANDOLIN! YAY! :D

  • @dramaticallyawesome Mandolins are always worth a cheer!

  • I subscribed for the clever skits, but this. . . the musicianship, the cinematography, the talent: wow.

  • @Messengerdeity1 I'm glad to be pleasantly surprising!

  • Can I download this into my brain? Cause it's that awesome. :D

  • @lizzy6les Well, you'll have to get your brain jailbroken, and then download the correct app, but otherwise yes!

  • @WillsOdyssey YES! XD

  • I can't stop listening

  • Yaay! Awesome :-d

  • @eeks1120 Your smiley face looks sad :(

  • @WillsOdyssey Hahaha, it's not a sad face, it's a funny face! it's mah "signature" emoticon

  • love love love love love this! such a talented musician!

  • @blauwmeansblue Are you sure you wrote the word 'love' enough times? I'm not sure you did.

  • Kick ace dude!

  • @jayfactory Kick ace? That's like, the best new phrase of all time!

  • You're extremely talented. Not just in your playing, but I loved the emotion in it. Everything went together perfectly.

  • I absolutely adore this, Will! Mandolin is one of my favourite instruments. Love this song. <3

  • @neuvv You clearly have brilliant taste in instruments.

  • Will, you have inspired me to add mandolin to the list of strange instruments I must learn. I hope you know your awesome is inspiring the next generation.

  • @OMGTHERERNONAMESAAGH I'd be honoured to be the reason more people play the Mandolin! It's a much underused instrument :)

  • Dear commenters. If you ask for thumbs up. I wil give you thumbs down. Just so you know.
