The music and pictures were "borrowed" from a US Marine Corps recruitment commercial. I assume it was an original piece of music composed specifically for this purpose.
Not long ago I thought that the west stood for honor and peace, but now I know otherwise. We are just as evil as any other country on earth, I was just too ignorant to see the truth. Our greed is not worth one Abeer.
In much of the country (Iraq), women can only now move around with a male escort. Rape is committed habitually by all the main armed groups, including those linked to the government. Women are being murdered throughout Iraq in unprecedented numbers.
They (Iraqi women) held important positions in business, education and the public sector, and their rights were protected by a statutory family law that was the envy of women's activists in neighboring countries. But since the 2003 invasion, advances that took 50 years to establish are crumbling away.
In March 2004 George Bush said that "the advance of freedom in the Middle East has given new rights and new hopes to women ... the systematic use of rape by Saddam's former regime to dishonor families has ended". This may have given some people the impression that the American and British invasion of Iraq had helped to improve the lives of its women. But this is far from the case.
this video makes me fucking sick that u areso fcking stupid 90 percent of all iraqi deaths come from fucking suicide bombers not the us go do something with ur fucking life instead of beating up on the soldiers
This illiterate reply--like many others here, and elsewhere on Youtube--illustrates a real danger to our democracy. Democracy *requires* an informed electorate, and in America today the populace at large has lost the ability to think critically. bush/cheney/rove are fully aware of this fact, have played this card to the max, with tragic results.
I would love to reply in a substantive way to your comments. Unfortunately we here at the Kindertotenlied site refuse to respond to ad hominem diatribes. If you would care to revise your comments in a civil way, I would love to consider your assertions and give them the answer they deserve.
Why don't you knock our socks off and show a movie of insurgents/terrorists giving aid or succor to Iraqi children. Can't do it? That's because no such footage exists as far as I can tell. They do not seek to make the lives of Iraqi's better, only make them more afraid of terrorists than Americans.
Sorry for the diatribe, but this a dishonest film and should not be emulated
I know the insurgents are vile, and that war itself is vile beyond words, but the US STARTED THIS WAR using lies and fear. bush/cheney played the American people for fools, and used our valient and trusting soldiers like pawns in their geo-political game. But these "pawns" die real deaths: almost 4,000 US dead, untold thousands (maybe a million) Iraqi dead, for what? For what noble cause? Support our troops, bring them home now--and there'll be *more* to bring home.
Once again, what do the troops want? It is also intellectually dishonest to project what you want as what they want in order to further an agenda. If you could find me some recent documentation that the majority of the servicemembers in the theater think the best way to support them is to yank them all out now, I'm all ears. Otherwise, push your own agenda and let them do their jobs.
But the troops don't make these decisions, the Commander in Chief does--and he sent these men and women on a fool's errand. Don't you see? The "mission" was a lie (Sadam links to 9/11 & Al Qaida, WMD), and bush/cheney *ordered* these fine people to Iraq to support the neo-con agenda. It was never about freedom for Iraq. It's a tragedy of the highest order.
I thank you for your civil attidude, though. This is a difficult thing to talk about.
I would love to see you go up to a recently returned servicemember and tell them that they are "pawns" who are trusting fools. If you were to choose I would suggest a Marine. I think you would get a crash course on what they think of your "support". Own your own agenda instead of speaking for those who may not hold your opinion. If you could show any documentation that the majority of those in theater who think the best way to support them is to yank them out now, I would love to see it.
Well, a violent reaction would say nothing whatever regarding my question: Wny Iraq? What noble cause? The entire nation was hoodwinked by these corrupt guys; that's what makes all this death even more god-awful than it might have been: it was all based on a Lie.
But I think you've gone beyond the point of rational discourse now. Adios.
Oh I am completely rational, but if you feel the need to dismiss a different opinion, so be it. Why is it so hard to believe that the intelligence the president had led him to the same conclusion that it led every other country to? Hindsight is 20/20 my friend. Saddam fooled EVERYBODY. Now we have to deal with it and pulling out the troops in their name without consulting them is a dishonest premise.
I could make the exact same movie substituting U.S. Marines giving aid and medical attention to the same children (who more than likely were injured during the course of a terrorist bombing or small arms/mortar attack instead of the implied American activity).
I think this is an intellectually dishonest though well meaning movie. If you could connect any of the injuries suffered by these poor children to the United States Marines that I had the privelege to serve in it would be different.
The Marines & soldiers in Iraq are victims of a ciminal administration, just as much as the Iraqis are. The invasion of Iraq was, by any definition, a war crime, as is the continued occupation of that poor country. We started this war on lies, because the eno-cons wanted it. All that followed is blood on the hands of the Bush administration. Support the troops-bring them home!
typo: "neo-cons." This is the gang of PNAC thugs who launched this unnecessary war. They'll never wash the blood--of Americans and Iraqis alike--off of their $10,000 suits.
Have you ever talked to a "troop" and asked one of them how they would like you to support them? I find that most people have taken it upon themselves to determine how to "support the troops" in accordance with their agenda.
I am delighted to see that texman and foreverpatriot have posted their comments to the site. Quite honestly, Kindertotenlied was created more for them than for anyone else.
I think that a decent respect for their opinions requires that I respond as candidly as I can to these two posts even though I sense that some of their points were intended rhetorically and perhaps without as complete a grasp of the facts as might be possible.
In response to your suggestion that scenes of domestic terror be shown, unedited, I think we have to ask ourselves: To what end should this footage be employed?
I suspect that texman's question here is rhetorical. What he is suggesting is there is some sort of an equivocated quid pro quo in operation. His implication is that many here have forgotten what happened in these horrible events like 9/11 and that the atrocities we visit upon the helpless children of our imperial campaigns should take second place. After all our people are far better than theirs. (?)
Just point of information for texman here: There were virtually no scenes documenting the remains of the jumpers on 9/11. Most photojournalists, in humanistic restraint, saw no need for a ghoulish portrayal of the victims' final agony and their remains. I hope texman's motives are not ghoulish here.
I think that the definition of Propoganda (sic) foreverpatriot and I would be most comfortable with would be: "a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people. Instead of impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense presents information in order to influence its audience."
Wikipedia
To this charge, I would proudly plead "guilty." Why should the press have all the fun?
4everpatriot wrote: "We don't want civilian casualties." Want it or not, the American soldier and even the American people have become more and more comfortable with the idea of "collateral damage." I find this tolerance repugnant. "It's the enemy hiding behind women & children." This is hardly an excuse for blowing them all away. Are we then to become as they are?
"Our soldiers are providing you the freedom to spread this deceit. We are fighting on foreign soil to protect us here."
Regretfully the only thing our soldiers are guaranteeing is the spread of fundamentalism and terrorism world wide. American soldiers haven't defended my freedom to "spread this deceit" since WWII.
Martin Luther King Jr. has done more to defend my freedom than Gomer Pyle. May the gods forgive our soldiers, these poor, misguided young men and women. Most of them truly know not what they do. I wish you would describe in further detail what "deceit" you think I am spreading with Kindertotenlied.
I am only showing you the poor victims of the US and Israeli wars in the mid east and intercutting their pictures (that the press in the US is so loath to show) with the highly romanticized USMC footage from a recruiting commercial. Where is the deciept? These soldiers are responsible either directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally for these poor little children depicted in the video. I merely attached the consequences with the USMC propaganda.
Some wars may be just such an ugly necessity. Not this war however. The war in Iraq was our war of choice based upon lies served up by the Democrats, the Republicans, the Administration and the press. Everyone has long ago agreed on that. What about this don't you understand?
"The choice isn't the choice of the American soldier."
Ever since Nuremburg and the Geneva Convention war has been precisely the choice of the American soldier especially when he/she chooses to volunteer in an illegal, immoral war of atrocity. Technically all our beloved fair haired guys and gals in Iraq are war criminals and their mission has been universally condemned by mankind. I am not interested in prosecuting them however. I have bigger fish to fry.
"It's the choice of the terrorists who have no regard for the innocent life." I don't want to get too narrow a focus here as Kindertotenlied is more an anti war video than an anti Iraqi War video.
I assume your statement is primarily addresses the situation in Iraq. If you discount our early Iraqi sanctions as an act of terror, I want to remind you that there were no indiscriminant acts of terrorism against innocents or non innocents in Iraq prior to the invasion. The war was our choice. Terror is our fault entirely. One million dead innocent Iraqis are mute testimony to our lack of regard for the innocent life.
How about an unedited video of scenes from the World Trade Center showing people on fire jumping from windows and what was left of them when they hit the ground? Or of school children being led out of the WTC after the first bombing in the 80's?
It's shocking and more than a little heartbreaking to hear that 30% of the American population *still* thinks Sadam/Iraq had something to do with 9/11 or Al Qaida. Yet here is one. Incredible.
When the media collude with the government to keep the people misinformed, democracy is truly lost. Ask Goebbels about this, he's chuckling grimly somewhere. Probably in the dirt beneath the Oval Office.
All aboard, Amerika! Next stop: Iran. They're the *real* enemy now.
