It was stated that all Vice Admirals could use Haki, but Im not completely certain whether its a requirement or that the current Vice Admirals just all happened to know how to use it. Im going to assume that its the former though, it makes more sense

@cacther12349 Starting from that part, they went through different adventures and LUFFY especially of them all broke into the unbreakable Impel down(Marine base mentioned in water 7 arc) and marineford's big war, whitebeard (current strongest pirate after pirate king) VS marines(full force). In the end, he explored the three governments. Anyway, rayleigh decided to let them train for 2 years and meet up again so here they are, stronger than ever!

@YawlitoShow Ace only lost to Akainu because Magma was the direct counter to Fire. It smothers the fire and burns ace, so naturally Ace wouldn't be able to fight Akainu very well. I mean, the lightning fruit was ridiculously OP (Nigh-instantaneous transporation, extremely powerful long-range attacks, etc) but Luffy wasn't affected by it.
