I should thank you for toodledo. I started using it after the first time you mentioned it almost a year ago I think. And it has helped me a lot in my everyday work.
This video is very relevant in the way of learning to play an instrument. I bought a mandolin last Dec, and for a while I would only practice once or twice a week and not really focus, but six or seven months ago I decided to commit and practice 1 hour ever day. I still occasionally miss days here and there, but overall I have kept my vow and it is very empowering to look back and realize that I am significantly better than I was when I first began playing.
heres a good dumping ground ive already talked about it iun one of your videos but, its to when you wake up first thing in the morning you take out some paper and a pen, and you write 3 pages of what ever is in your mind. if its in your mind, you write it down. Ive accomplished alot just by doing that, i even felt lighter after each time i was doing that... a really good exercise i recommand!
I don't think it's as simple as just "do this everyday for 10 minutes". Because that reduces people to machines, and over simplifies the reason why people CAN'T do that. It's just way too boring to eat an elephant bite by bite. It's hard to enjoy the journey when you're sick of Elephant and just want to watch TV. Yes, it's effective, but NORMAL people will find it difficult.
If one can't commit to 10 minutes a day then they should change their goal because the desire is not there. The problem many people have is procrastination because they haven't cultivated the habit of self-discipline. Starting at 10 minutes a day, bite-by-bite is effective because it's achievable and moves people in the direction of their goal without being overwhelming. Self-discipline is best achieved with consistent small steps.
I recently "burnt out" on regular study (I was doing a lot more than 10 min a day). I think my problem was: trying to achieve using someone else's idea of what achievement is. Recently I've started some semi-consistent study again - but my way, without over doing it. I'm even enjoying it. So Steve, I think you are correct about needing the right goals - otherwise 10 min can become an eternity.
great video. I agree what you said about goals. I find that I sometimes set goals that I don't think are entirely realistic at the time. There are some things in life I want, things I want to do, but there are steps I need to take, like going to college and getting an education and stuff before I start towards other goals in life. Thanks for sharing another thought provoking video! :)
Consistently keeping our word to ourselves builds tremendous inner confidence. It's best to manage are goals so we consistently achieve them. It builds the habit of self-discipline. Carefully examine our goals to see if it's something we are willing to pay the price for. If not then it's best not break our word with ourselves.
thinking about it. I really see what you're saying. Practicality and common sense is a very important part of the equation when it comes to good decisions.
I just really think people need to master good decisions for themselves but also broaden good decision making to also encompass the well being of things they directly effect. whether it be the environment or other people etc..
the new youtube sucks

Good ideas on how to get things done. But don't expect the results to make you happy! ;-)

I make New Years Resolutions every day. Some I achieve, some I don't. I don't stress over it.
