  • no competition really, Mg34

  • MG-34 the Legend is the winner of course...

  • The German MG-34is much better

  • mg34 defenitly

  • MG-34 is a better made product. If I had to fight tomorrow, and only given one of these two. I would take the MG. (With another of Browning designs as a sidearm.)

  • Well id have to say the browning 1919 only because the Mg34 to so long to make.

  • mg 34 wins out on versatlity and reliability.

  • well the 34 came at a time of huge technological leaps that were happening every few months, 15 years after the 1919, a ww1 gun. i'd say that the mg 34 won, but it wasn't there when it was needed so it doesn't count lol

  • I cant answer un-biased, but I will answer Browning! If ol Moses made it, its gotta be effective and reliable.

  • Absolutely love the footage of you firing the MG34 while standing up!

  • I don't think its a matter of which is better as both are too different to compare.

Both have their tactical advantages and disadvantages, which affected the way they were used. The MG34 was lighter and easier to carry than the browning (which had to have a tripod carried alongside it in order to be used). Tactical mobility goes to the MG34. However, the M1919 is more suited to a long term battle and fire support, as the MG34 chews through ammunition too fast

  • Vote for browning overall best machine gun, only disadvantage hard to use as LMG, but Americans has for that role BAR which is best in this role than MG34 or 42 because is designed specially for that disadvantage limited capacity magazine

  • When he cycled the bolt on the 1919 it sounded like a cash register!

  • I love the MG-34, but I think the Browning might be better quality for War, but the MG-42 is such a bUZZ zAW, I mean that thing woould mow down a freaking Division. I think the Browning is a great Multi use Gun but not as effective as the MG-42.

  • mg 42 the best wapon....

  • i had the luck to shoot the mg 3 (which is nearly simular to the mg 42) when i was part of the german army in the 90´s. it was really great and i loved it every time...

  • German weapons fabrics have always made the finest infantry weapons up to the end of the world war 2.

  • the m60 and m240 only use the trigger and feed mech ,of the mg 42 in functionality i think.

  • MG34

  • @C2builder I have heard rumors that the M240/C6/FN MAG, were/are based off the MG-42's design. Is there a way to confirm this?

  • @CF4LIf3 and the M60 too....yes they were based on it as far as I know.

  • browning! america always wins!

....except when going against russia :D

  • MG34 !

  • IMHO a definitely a win for the MG34!

  • i saw you firing the mg42 in assault mode. witch one is better handling that way? the mg 34 or the mg42 p.s awesome video's man ;)

  • @TheBasje1993 The mg42 is lighter and has less recoil.

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • Mg-34 and the later Mg-42 are superior! - The current German Army still uses an updated version of the Mg-42 - Where is the Browning?

  • @mcguire4162 The us army nowadays uses the browning 50. cal that is an improved version of the browning 1919a4.

  • What I never understood was that the US Armed forces never took the MG34 or MG42 and made their own weapon out of it. Or simply adjusted the caliber to 7.62 NATO (like Germany did with the MG3). Instead they took the cumbersome FG42 and used it to serve as the basis for the M60. Strange choice and probably not a very good one.

  • @Lucasisgek82 They tried, but where unable....

  • German machineguns from WW2...who can beat that?

  • Winner... MG-34, easy =)

  • Great video. I am a big fan of vintage weaponry of all types.

  • NO COMPARISON! MG-34 IS A WINNER. VERSATILE, LIGHT WEIGHTED, HIGH RATE OF FIRE, MANY ROLES, LESS STOPPAGES... I HAVE USED THE BROWINING WHEN I WAS SERVING IN THE ARMY AND IT WAS PATHETIC AND EXTREMELY HEAVY TO CARRY... I'VE USED THE MG-3 (ACTUALLY A MODERN MG-42)... NO COMPARISON!

  • @Knispel1963 Agree 100%. When we switched from the C5 (browning) to the C6 (MAG58 based on MG42)) it was like the best Christmas present ever. The rate of fire and lack of stoppages was greatly improved, and the fact that even when some other poor bastards were carrying the tri-pod and extra ammo I had an LMG in my hands instead of clunky hunk of metal that was just dying to burn me if I fired it while standing was awesome.

  • I know nothing about machine guns and even I can see the German gun sounds like modern machine gun, while the Browning sounds like something from WW I - which it was. Is this even comparing apples to apples?

  • Thought that was Chalres Cutshaw narrating at first.

  • MG-34 undoubtedly the winner for these reasons. 1. first GPMG 2. Faster but not too fast ROF. 3. More stopping power. 4. more versatile and very fast to set up, I've seen ww2 photos of germans firing the mg34 from the back of a fellow soldier holding the bipod down to reduce recoil, it also has single shot capability to act as a very long range 'rifle' or range finder. 5. It was belt fed or could accept 50 & 75rd drums although 75 took modding i think. 6 used in AA role. 7. modern mgs copied it.

  • @gryzer26 right on most counts, but stopping power: the most modern 8mm cartridge used in WWII produced just under 3700 joules, whereas the 30-06 Ball produced over 3800, AP approaching 4000. Diameter and weight are only part of the equation: the 30-06, (which was a more modern round,) produced significantly more velocity. The 8mm was definitely no slouch, but it certainly didn't overpower the 30-06.

  • @GabeMacDonnell Incorrect. The WW2 30.06 150 grain M2 Ball produced around 3500 Joules of energy, where'as the 7.92mm 198 grain sS ball produced around 3700 Joules of energy and also retained this energy a lot better being the rifle bullet with the highest ballistic coefficient of the war [0.584 G1]. So the MG34 certainly had a lot more stopping power.

In addition to this the 8mm Mauser continues to be better with heavier bullets where'as the 30.06 is usually better with lighter bullets today.

  • @bellator11 This is ofcourse true in some ways, but if you look at economy wise, or even battle wise, the 8x57mm (Or 7.92x57) was overkill. You dint needed this kind of firepower.

Then again, in aircraft MG's this made a diffrence however, but all sides quickly switched to 12.7/13/20mm mgs/cannons

  • @F4Wildcat Let's look at modern standard caliber ammunition such as 5.56x45 NATO and 5.45x39mm. While both are potent rounds, they often do not have enough stopping power. It sometimes takes 2-4 hits for an incapacitating effect, whereas a hit with a 7.62x54 NATO, 7.62x54R, 30-06, or 8x57 (all these rounds have similar ballistic properties) will be a one round stopper. Also, these rounds punch through foliage easier (hedgerows of France), plus longer engagement ranges (mnts of Afghan)

  • I'd hate to be at the recieving end of either of those. But both are awesome weapons.

  • I would go with the Browning.Any John Moses Browning gun.The man was a absolute genus when it came to weapon designs.Just read a book on the amount of weapons he designed during his life.

  • @profsat5 Im with you. MG-34 might have better features and the 1919 may take longer to change barrels, with Americas production ability they probably had a dozen more if it needed fixing. Germanys slower production meant that if the 34 failed they probably didnt have another waiting

  • im american but mg 34 is really powerful so mg 34

  • MG-#$ rules. German weapon are the best quality.

  • @Imparatul1976 Absolutely !

  • MG-34, no wonder it was a deadly weapon.

  • The downside of the 1919A4 is, that it was obsolete the moment it was released. To big, to heavy, unhandy, too low rate of fire, cannot use disintegrating belt, barrel change takes too long. While the MG34 was a revolutionary weapon, the M1919A4 was just a slightly upgraded design of the first world war. But after all the US-armories did not manage to field a decent MG of their own until the present day (ok, the stoner 63 was very good but not fielded in relevant numbers).

  • this would be good if there ever was a zombie outbreak

  • MG 34 RULEZ

  • deffinitly the MG-34. the 1919 seems more suited for deffensive positions, while the MG-34 seems to be designed for suppourting advancing infantry, being a Laffette and MG-34 user myself (in my reenacting unit), i go for the MG-34 ;)

  • @nick21sammy

i'd 100% agree with that interpretation.

  • 1:40 1$ please thank you xD

  • Thumbs up if you're now ready for the zombie apocalypse :D

  • Assault mode? I've never seen a real German Soldier went blitzkrieg while running through trenches shoulder-mount firing an MG 34. That was the FG42, compact model

  • I saw your vid on the PKM, that is by far the simplest MG take down I have seen

  • Impressive video , i admire the professionalism in dealing with guns .

Any of you know why do guns require a barrel change ??

Is it because upon firing many rounds the barrel overheats and deforms , thereby reducing effeciency ??

  • @TheBarathbushan

You do this for various reasons. First of all - constant overheating causes damage to the barrel. Secondly, overheated barrels reduce the weapon's accuracy. Thirdly to avoid that the ammunition gets 'ignited' by hot mechanical parts and jamming due to deformation of rounds. It's done rather quickly, takes just a few seconds for the MG 42/MG 3/MG 74 for instance. But: Touching a barrel with bare hands during change causes lots of swearing (and blisters too).

  • @GIJoe1235 RPM while being effective, it's hardly practical. If you have infinite ammo and the efficient supply lines to go with it, sure, go for it but one of the reasons Germany lost the war was that they had neither.

  • @skks666 Germany couldn´t win a war against 40 countries...as simple as that.

  • @tuyocuyo They were weak

  • @tuyocuyo They almost did and according to Churchill would have but for Ultra.

  • @skks666 Why do you need efficient supply lines if you have infinite ammo? You said "infinite ammo AND efficient supply lines :P Anyway, there is many reasons why germany lost, such as simply having less raw materials, oil, smaller production and so on...

  • @skks666 they had supply lines entire europe whas the supply line,

but instead of supply lines with convoys on the road and trains,

    they scattered it.

Less important supplies were on the road (these get bombed a lot) the more important supply lines all over the continent.

And you actually cant call it*lines*but groups in air&ground.

The reason that they lost=TOO MUCH ENEMYS!

Its like using 1 rifle against 3000 others.

the americans would have lost to against 40other countrys incl Russia

  • MG 34 for sure

  • this guy is cool :) i love his videos

  • mg34 wins however the 1919 was a great weapon. the rate of fire for the mg 34 was probably more effective at keeping heads down. two great weapons of war!

  • The 1919 belt looks weird, almost fabric. What's it made of?

  • @iJantsa Fabric. The Browning WW2 belts were cloth. Not until later did they use metal links. Only aircraft used metal links for the 1919.

  • @C2builder just wondering. Does the fabric belt and metal belt affect the gun in anyway?

  • @hyunki0510 Typically in most all machine guns a metal belt will run a tad faster and cleaner than a cloth belt, which while reliable does pose some problems if they get wet.

  • @iJantsa fabric \

  • The MG 34 is far superior, bigger Round, faster firing rate, and the semi auto feature is a mg mod that would make it into modern mgs almost 50 years later while germans had it right there fully developed, easier to exchange the barrel. The Browning is a cool gun, but honestly just a simple adaption of a brutaly simple MG concept of WW2, no chance.

  • Just shows how much ahead of theyr time was german weapons. Mg34 just spray bullets. Lovely vid.

  • IVE GOTTA GIVE it to the MG-34 its more modern you can choose how you want to fire and it was used more on d-day that than the mg-42 plus the mg-34 has a better capability of killing soilders becasue of acurracy and becasue of how much faster the gun shoots

  • MG 34!

  • There's a lot of differences.

Browning has the feared .50cal round

MG34 has a higher rate of fire and convenient trigger system.

Its all about what you need. A fast MG, or one with more kick?

  • @MaccyTheFurry the 1919a4 was 30 cal

  • easy, mg34 won

  • i think it's self-evident and obvious that the German MG-34 is a superior weapon over the slow, heavy, bulky, and outmoded US browning gun (it shoots as if it's brown with mold). By now the US junk would probably be 'Made In China' anyway

  • 2:16 BONER

  • i think mg 34 own the browning :D

  • let me shoot also

    MG-34 won

  • Of course the MG-34 wins hands down... although a model 1934 it has all the aspects of a modern machine gun and is far more sophisticated technology wise and I would go as far that through the Mg-42 it is the "grandfather" of the M-60.

  • I think the MG34 has won. Its lighter to move around and has the bipod system. It has selective fire so you don't waste 10 bullets on one target. Changing the barrel it faster and it seems to shoot at a higher rate of fire.

  • the mg34 won hands down, its reliable, easy to feild strip, and is alot more suited for the modern battlefield.

  • VERY nice video! I still believe the MG34 is a superior weapon in both design and use in the field. Bi pod ease of use goes to the Americans though. That Lafette was a PAIN to get placed and moved. Once placed though it made the superior MG34 a more deadly weapon.

  • i was watching your finger on the mg34 an every time you shot semi it looked like you moved finger to another trigger is that true??

  • @coke378 Correct, the trigger is a two-part affair. The upper groove fires semi and the lower groove fires auto. Great design because you never have to take your eyes from the sights.

  • @C2builder thats awsome thanks

  • MG 34 won hands down.

no wonder that its an iconic weapon of WW2.

  • Thanks for the video. The MG34 looks like a very impressive piece of kit and the M1919 looks incredibly crude in comparison. Am I right in saying that it was the expense of the MG-34 and its sensitivity to dust that led to it being replaced by the MG42? Also, many rounds were usually fired before the Browning required a barrel change? Thanks again.

  • @craigtube85 Thanks. You are correct, the MG34 was too costly and too close tolerances internally and needed a great deal of service in the field. Funny though that even after the MG42 was in full production the German occupied Czech BRNO plant continued making the MG34 up till the end of the war.

I think the Browning needed barrel replacement after 500rds continuous fire, I may be wrong.

  • @C2builder

Yes, makes sense, because the Germans put the MG 34 in their tanks.

  • @C2builder You took just one version of M1919. It has many variants, like the "A6", a LMG model, used in WWII too. It would be better if you took all of its functions like you did with MG34. But it's a nice comparison, for me the two guns are pretty good.

  • @C2builder Didnt the Germans keep the MG-34 in production becouse the MG-42 didnt work that well i their tanks due to the MG-42s sidways barrelchange?

  • @NightmareGbg Correct.

  • @C2builder Thank you.

  • browning has a better round and it's AMERICAN! lol browning

  • MG34 all the way.

  • MG is a much more modern weapon. Both are potent.

  • Thanks 4 sharing. What kind of maintenance need those machine guns?

  • @XipeAyotl They just need to be cleaned after prolonged shooting and kept lightly oiled.

  • Oh, gee, a .50 cal vs. an 8mm. I wonder which does the most damage?

Yeah, even though the Browning beats the MG in most aspects, possibly including mobility (considering that it's usually mounted on a vehicle), I love the MG much more.

  • @PredatorKillsAlien its not .50 cal. its 30-06.

  • im for the mg34 it has a higher rate of fire but not so high as the mg42 so you dont have to change the barrel so often. its much more acurracyer and it look s bether :)

  • MG34 .... awesome vid dude

  • Gotta tell this over and over again, C2builder makes the best videos of weapons!

Nobody else fills you with more information like he does.

For me both guns are pure beauties and did the job well in history (even if it sounds sarcastic). For me there is no winner - DRAW

If you were hit by any of those 2, you were lucky if you have made your testament before. Wish i could lay my hands on one of those, but since i live in germany it will never happen.

Keep on making vids C2, love them *5stars*

  • ..................34.........................

  • The MG34 is a more versitile weapon...but in a fixed positiion I would prefer the 1919A4.....tihink I would go for the MG34

  • MG-34 all the way

  • MG-34 in assualt mode....that's one godly weapon

  • would love if u could Compare the Accuracy of them or atleast say wich 1 is more Accurate.

  • MG-34 was the field weapon of WWII.

  • @IIJG27Rich no, it was the MG42

  • mg-34

  • NATO in still using better version MG-3.I think reason mg-3 is best gun base at mg34 and mg42.But USA cal.50 is too good.

  • 1919 & MG-34, despite the age difference both will reduce you to a fine red mist if you cross them,

  • i like the looks of the 1917

  • if I had to be in battle i would be comfortable being in charge of either of these weapons.

  • german win

  • the mg-34 won it's such a sexy gun

  • German Weapons are biuteful i pick MG 34

  • @TheDemon155 Yes, we make the best weapons :D

  • I think that wind won :) Kidding, imo MG-34 is a clear winner

  • JMO, but I think the MG-34 won. Lighter weight, faster barrel changes, a faster ROF, a setting for enfilading fire, and more versatility are true advantages.

  • 1919A4 is a "fortress" weapon, a fixed position machinegun made having the WWI environment in mind. MG34 is a "field" weapon, made having in mind the environment that would be common in WWII, so MG34 is the winner. It's only problem is that it's expensive, but MG42 fixed this.

  • @DogWab What about the 1919A6? Used widely in WW2 and even more so in Korean War.

  • @C2builder

It obviously can do the job (reliably trow bullets to a target), but compared with a MG42 is an outdated weapon with embellishments. the MG42 is lighter, with an higher rate of fire and a real quick exchange barrel. It belongs to another generation of weapons.

Even the Browning M1917 was used in Korea, and, in the '50, it was desperately out of it's time. When an army acquires a weapon, it tends to use it till consumption.

  • @DogWab Its rather easy and quick to say that the MG34 is a winner because its german.

The M1919 was in Everything a great gun exept as a LMG

The MG34 was a great LMG but compared to the M1919 in the other roles, the Browning wins hands down.

Also, in actuall sustained supressive fire, the M1919 can win aswel. Because after 100-150 rounds the barrel had to replaced of MG34 for cooling down.

Both are great guns with 2 diffrent roles it was designed for. Both where excellent weapons.

  • BROWNING CUZ IT SOUNDS KWLER :D

  • 2:33 A big gun for a big man

  • mg34, lighter, truely universal, much easier to maintain or fix and continue operation in field ... no need for a smaller tripod since the mg34 has a build in bipod.. the ammo was widely used in the german army, so getting the right ammo wasnt a problem, a simple to use practical approach to the machine gun concept. thumbs up

  • god they both eat bullets

  • MG34 wins on versatility.

  • MG34!

  • mg34

  • I love the M1919 but the MG34 has to win because it is a general purpose machine gun. If you think about at the time the 1919 was built machine guns were used as defensive weapons and that's exactly what the 1919 is. The MG34 on the other hand was designed to be mobile because that's what the Nazi's battle plan called for

  • I think that the mg 34 won though the mg 42 beats both browning and mg 34

  • whats the difference between the mg34 and the mg42

  • @joparsons20 Too many differences to list here. completely different weapons.

  • @C2builder Absolutely! Design philosophies are different, manufacturing techniques, even tactical thinking are different. Awesome video, keep up the good work. Signed: an ex grunt....

  • made in germany^^

  • Perfect machines to kill folks real dead.

  • dude, makes me jealous seeing you shooting the mg 34 in single shot.... i tried so hard to shoot it in single shot, but it wouldnt let me... always send like 3-4 bullets down range.

  • @JaasterMareel The mg34 has a special trigger for single shoot firing i believe. Maybe you are talking about the mg42?

  • MG 34. faster RoF, faster barrel change, easier to shoot!

  • those mg34 rounds look VISCOUS! what is it a 7.something?

  • MG-34

  • loll!!! it sounds like resident evil typewriter

  • Ya I hate too but I have to give it to Zee Germans on this one, they did make one hell of a good arsenal during ww2. Give me a MG-34 any day...and while your at it a MP-38, STG44, Luger lol.

  • The MG-34 Was used on the beaches of normandy right in the Bunkers? But still MG-34....

  • can you do the bren

  • nahh man Browning fifty cal all the way!

  • @sjnewsome the .50 cal isn't in this video, only the .30

  • 2:28 they look small and then when he said barrel i was like??? and he picks it up and its hugeO_O

  • MG 34 won !

  • with the advent of mechanized warfare (first World War).......both became extremly important, although the Germans used to great effect defensively

  • Love your vids very user friendly GJ thx for showing that the mg 34 can be fire standing and from the shoulder.

  • MG-34 won!

  • Fire and maneuver on the battlefields of WWII France - MG34

Killing zombies from the bed of my 4x4 armor-plated monster truck - 1919 Browning

  • MG-34 all the way baby!:D

  • i hope you reloade your own bullets my frend

  • @builder229 Actually no I don't. I only shoot Mil Surplus (Berdan primed).

  • @C2builder Are you using Romanian 150 gr. surplus ammo in the MG-34. From what I understand the 8mm machine guns prefer light ball ammo.

  • @Pagansniper Yes, the MG34 prefers the hotter Romanian ammo over the other brands from different countries. The '34 was made to use both heavy and light ball ammo depending on what the target was and penetration needed. If a MG34 is set up correctly and the ammo of good quality it should run both types with no problems.

  • I'm partial to American weapons so I would take the M1919 over the Mg34 but the Mg34 was still an awesome weapon to contend with.

  • To me a more interesting question is how the design of the various machine guns currently being used compair with those used during ww2 and why they do or do not differ. It is true that in some cases ww2 era wepons continue to be used. But not all of them. It seems like that could be an interesting topic.

The points of similarity and diff. for the current US squad automatic weapons versus ww2 counterparts would be of interest.

  • MG34 has won
