  • Let's wish for a cure for leukemia.

  • Miss my great uncle. Sleep with his pic on my nightstand. And take it with me on ever show. He so inspires me!

  • Redhead or Black, Judas is the most important apostle.

  • What a sad loss. A powerful voice and great actor.

  • The vibrato in the high register...unparalled!!

  • Love his voice!

  • he died of leuchemia 2002 i think i dont remember clearly, another stab on musical history

  • @reyke 2004

  • LMAO!!! @ 1:40 he wanted to grab his sack but thought twice about it!

  • Arrangement was sped up, but it's true what they described on the 20th anniversary DVD commentary with Ted and the director of the film. He actually got better with age (which I didn't think was even possible, and I don't mean because of his age).

  • Holy shit. Amazing.

  • 4 people are deft

  • That was a great performance! Wow!

  • Great voice... arrangement is too fast.

  • One & Only Judas Ever!

  • blooming heck this man nails it RIP fantastic artist

  • Voice much stronger in this clip. Just a fantastic performer.

  • Il Freddie del Musical!

  • Grazie Carl.....Dino from Venezia Italia

  • RiP Mr. Anderson. Yourself and Ted Neeley were two of the main reasons JCS became such a hit that stood the test of time.

  • he is so very precise with his timing. i can safely say all the other judas singers for this do not have this man's timing. his rhythm is astounding and i second the comment on his upper register, very full indeed.

  • He is truly missed!!!

  • had the honor of seeing this man live with Ted Neeley as Christ

    what a show!!!!!!!

  • @joeylodes Where?!

  • @Episio Paramount theatre in NYC ... it was the 20th or 25th anniversary tour of the film. amazing show.

  • what an amazing tenor,super,what a talent

  • He was such a nice man. A talent that will be missed.

    Man...

  • this guy is just great;)

  • I agree, he was.. RIP Carl

  • If anyone has ever heard his version of "O Holy Night" you will understand why it is my favorite Christmas song. It can be found on the GRP Christmas Collection, Vol 2. Enjoy!!

Such a voice is sorely missed!

  • @kerrysovery - amen, kerry - i play Carl's version all through the year ..

  • What's really amazing to me is how well he has aged vocally. I saw a live performance of the reunion and Carl nailed it. Ted was struggling hard.

  • I did as well and agree with you. Carl will be missed. May he RIP

  • He was absolutely fantastic in this performance & in JCST.

  • His upper register is so full that you can't tell that he's singing hella high notes. Amazing vocalist.

  • Someone help me... I'm looking for an album of this man... something that sounds like this... that voice need to be free... but I don't like some of his ballads.

Do you know about songs like this or too much heaven on t.m.?

Carl was singin as guest in a lot of music, do you recomend something?

    ThanXs

  • From what I've heard of his solo material, he mostly does ballad/soul stuff. Not my cup of tea; loved him in JCS, and his voice is beyond amazing. But yeah, that's mostly what his catalog offers.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO

You're totally right. His voice here sounds even better than in the movie version.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Exactly some of those notes are even high for me and i'm a female (contralto)

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO So true!

  • a great great star, see you on the other side carl

  • He is missed so much. A wonderful man with a voice so full of soul.

  • I would marry his voice if i could<3

  • There is absolutely nothing missing from this performance. HOTTT!!!

  • He sings extremely high notes all along the song..with so much power..the best judas ever!!

  • Few, if any, could out sing Carl! He is missed.

  • There's a guy named Ted Neeley who could give him a run for his money.

  • the guy who played jesus... he wouldnt sound right as judas, they worked well together as they were. i couldnt imagine carl singing a song like gethsemane. however, carl has an amazing voice and may he rest in peace!

  • Just a joke. Of course both are perfect for their roles.

  • he can sing to me any day!!!

  • unsure about this verson or the ladies in the background

  • it's almost always done with ladies in the background

  • without a doubt the best rendition of "superstar", and the best carl ever sang the song. r.i.p mr. anderson

  • Thanks fablady3... I love Carl...

  • Great song, great man, great suit.

  • I love this. Is he still alive?

  • he died in 2004, lieukemia

  • Died of Leukemia I think. Sorry to have to tell you. It is very sad.

  • beautifull......

  • Great!!!!! No coments!!!

  • I don't understand why he didn't go beyond

    JCS, but I love him!!!

  • He was in other movies; he just doesn't sing in them. Musicals went out of style for a while.

  • He had a great career in the smooth jazz genre. He was very much loved in that arena. They played him on smooth jazz stations a lot, was on a lot of those jazz tours.

  • His voice is great plus this guitar in the background, awsum

  • When this show was on tv..?Before 2001?

  • yea, early 90's i think.

  • Great!

  • He really put his stamp on this song. All others don't carry it through to end like he does.

  • No one sings it like he does.

  • Incredible! Greatest Judas ever. rip Carl.

  • Wow !

  • Wow!

  • He reminds me of Corey Glover from Living Colour.

  • its funny cause glover worked on that production for 2 years

    look at wikipedia.

  • R.I.P., I used to watch Jesus Christ Superstar when I was 6... every word memorized still, and your part was my favorite! ( The " Heaven on your Mind " song ruled!!! )

  • What a talent. He is sorely missed.

  • R.I.P he was one of the greats!!

  • Carl was the man. No one can hold a candle to him. He was amazing. This production is not quite the same without him. He will be missed forever.

  • it´s terribly sad Carl is not with us anymore...leucemia, in 2004...we really miss him :-((((

  • Comment removed

  • he looks than he did in the movie. then again that was like 20 years ago. so i guess it makes sense. yay carl

  • wow, what a voice...

  • R.I.P.

  • he died ??? i didnt know that :( :(

    :(

  • Leonard Cohen dedicated a song to him in one of his recent albums.

  • Is there any chans that you can put up the one with Ted Neeley at the tonight show with Jay?

  • Got to see him in the mid '90s revival at MSG twice and in Foxwoods once. Will never forget it.

  • That's awesome!!!

  • He was a great motherfucking actor too... there's no game in the best Judas racve

  • best judas ever!

  • HOW OLD IS HE NOW???

  • @AnthonyNiroshan Alas he died a few years ago, age 59.

  • @AnthonyNiroshan dead.

He died a while ago, I'm not sure of the actual year

  • I know this was added in 2006 but when was this filmed? CA really was the best Judas. Ever. No question. The only one to come close is possibly Drew Sarich and possibly Tony Vincent - but Carl Anderson was truly the best. RIP Carl.

  • Bless him. Marvelous voice.

  • Great!! Carl will live forever!!

  • AMAZING... what a great loss of talent... RIP Mr Carl, now you'll be up there...

  • As old as he is, he still looks, goooood, and got it... His voice is still amazing, and honestly, he has to hold back for this performance, or he would have blown everyong out of the the studio with a voice like that, I know, cos, I don't try, and when I sing my voice is so loud, people ask me to tone it down... So, I know where he's coming from.... Just give me a chance

  • He's barely putting any effort in.

    Makes it look easy.

  • Grande Carl!!

  • Can't beat Carl. <3

  • Grandissimo!!!!

  • man, what an extreme talent. His performance of this one song leaves zero room for improvement. I wish I could have seen him live. :(

  • r.i.p man =/

i got to see him live and meet him =]<3

  • wow

  • wow - he looks and sounds great here. Carl Just got better and better with age.

  • faster tempo here

  • Absolutely AWESOME!!!

  • viva carl anderson no hay mejor voz para judas las demas son asquerosas en otras versiones

  • How old is this? He sounds GREAT!! My ALL time favourite musical! CARL STILL ROCKS!! All the best to him and his family!

  • we really miss you!the best and one Juda!his voice was amazing!sorry for the english but I'm italian

  • Great!!

    Carl will live forever!!

  • It is wonderful to read all of these nice comments. Yes, Carl was blessed and he sang effortlessly. I am his cousin am I want you all to know that I plan on working on a compilation album with more of the Anderson family. Leonard and Nathaniel Anderson have tones similar to Carl's so the world will soon hear some more effortless singing from this phenomenally gifted family of singers and musicians. I can't tell you how amazing this family is. Louise, Sheila, Renee, etc. Just wait! Thanks guys!

  • AMEN!!!!! Can't wait! :)

  • Check out Nate Anderson "Hold On" here on youtube. This is Carl's cousin Nathaniel Anderson's son:-)

  • classssss

  • But ya know what's strange? When Carl was alive I emailed him and asked him who he was in the Color Purple. He said the reverend and that he put on some weight. So I assumed it was the bigger reverend.

  • rochestra -- what year is this?

  • LOVE HIS HAIR!!!...and ofc his voice is amazing

  • He MADE the film. Absolutely without him it would not have been watchable. He delivered a godly performance in that JCS, no joke.

  • Carl was in the Color Purple. But I don't know who he played. Does anyone know?

  • Carl played Nettie's Husband at the end of the movie.

  • So weird, because I heard he was the reverend. Thank you for clearing that up! RIP Carl. :(

  • yes he was not the fat reverend when they were singing god is trying to tell you something..but the reverend during the seens when Celie was reading the letter and they were flash backing to the missionaries in Africa

  • Ugh, he should have had a singing part in that movie! What's wrong with Speilberg! :)

  • Grande Carl! Sempre con noi! Great Carl, you'll be always and forever with us! An old italian JCS fan, from Venice Italy

  • too fast!

  • Well, it was shortened to fit in the time slot. Gethsemane was sped up, too, and verses were cut.

  • Still incredible voice, maybe better here than '73. What was so amazing about his original performance is the acting, and that's what I miss here.

  • the best judus

  • sempre un mito!

  • Mito assoluto!!

  • carl is a tru playa. unreal.

  • He was still amazing then.

  • he sounds the same from the 73' film

  • Why doesn't he have the same following as Mr. Neeley? He deserves leigons of fans! Extremely underrated (I love Neeley too, obviously).

  • Wow. His voice had not lost ANY of its flair even here. Carl, you are loved and missed!

  • Carl had a wonderful voice even at this point. But watch the original version of this song, it is so raw and so much more powerful. The orchestration in this version, and the sad motionless backup make it a pale reflection of the original. After all that time it I can imagine he is going through the motions. The original 73 performance however is timeless.

  • He might've sped it up a bit to fit the time restraints of TV.

I loved the movie performance (and every song he had in the JCS movie) but I must say, his voice is still just as terrific as it was then.

  • america has the deepest talent pool ever! we've forgotten more great musicians than the rest of the world has ever produced!

  • His voice is stilll great 30+ years after Superstar

  • artistas así deberian de tener un pacto con dios para ser inmortales y enriquecer así la mierda de panorama musical que las compañias discograficas decoran con sus escoriosos y engangrenados productos. Larga vida a carl a ted a Ivonne barry etc...

CIAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • He's got such a great voice.

  • Dat Freakin' kicks ass, makes me wanna testify

  • After Carl, there won't be another person who will give justice to the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. No one! Period!

  • To be fair and honest, you have a point but i believe that Drew Sarich has the right to have the torch of Judas passed onto him, he deserves it in my eyes and i think Carl would be pleased with that aswell. :)

  • TheGoldenSwords, I guess I have to agree with you about Drew Sarich. I heard him sing the songs of Judas and even Jesus in JCS and he did pretty good. And you're right, Carl would be pleased to pass the torch to Drew, but only to Drew Sarich and no one else. :-)

  • gotta agree with ya on that one.

  • Carl was awesome..i got to meet him on his last superstar tour not long before he passed..what a friendly, classy guy!!

  • What a great singing voice. He could have been a great rock star with that voice.

  • Poor guy, he has left us.. Rest in peace

  • since when

  • 23 February 2004, RIP

  • dat freakin' sucks

  • true...

  • i'm... going to just die. i just discovered the wonderful amazing beautful voiced Carl, and now he's dead. i'll never get to meet him. i'm going to be crying all day and night. i hope he has never been sad or mistreated in death.

  • That's exactly what I realized about a month ago! it's so sad! i'll never meet him.. :(

  • Not to take anything from Ben Vereen... I love him and his talent... But Carl was, by far, the best Judas. Pure power, always made it look effortless! I wish I could have had the honor of seeing him perform live.

  • Talent °_° ???

Carl Was a Champion ...Great !!!

    Ted and Carl

    Unique and unforgettable.

  • Super talent

  • HE DIED!?!?!?!!? What the HELL? I love him....but not as much as Corey Glover....He gives you chills live.

  • Oh god. He's an amazing talent. Its so terrible that he died. RIP.

  • The best ever !!!!

  • He plays judas in Jesus christ superstar ;)

  • haha wasn't expecting those feathered ladies to walk out. gotta love it. what I would have given to see Ted and Carl perform live together...wow.

  • I did in the mid 90's here in Boston and all i can say is.....WOW!

  • carl at his best, i simply love his voice.

I agree with you my friends carl is a legend

  • Carl had tone, power, soul. Nobody can touch em, not even Stevie W. Carl is under rated. cats like John Legend & Marc Anthony with horrible tone are booking sold out gigs but Carl got not glory w/ soul c.d.s Shame on all smooth jazz stations for playing C.A.

    Carl's best cds:

    1. Heavy Weather

    2. Fantasy Hotel

Other underated singers and artists: Bobby Caldwell, Incognito, Russell Allen (Symphony X), Ritchie Kotzen

    You will not be disappointed.

  • really, i think as a singer he is totally under-appreciated. His is one incredibly soulful and powerful voice. i gush because i love. and because it's deserved.

  • Umm, Carl's a legend for sure. Ted, I'm not so sure.

  • Pft. They both are, duh.
