From what I've heard of his solo material, he mostly does ballad/soul stuff. Not my cup of tea; loved him in JCS, and his voice is beyond amazing. But yeah, that's mostly what his catalog offers.

Carl had a wonderful voice even at this point. But watch the original version of this song, it is so raw and so much more powerful. The orchestration in this version, and the sad motionless backup make it a pale reflection of the original. After all that time it I can imagine he is going through the motions. The original 73 performance however is timeless.
