Seems to me like the effort would not justify the yield. Why not just buy extra beans, rice, etc and rotate. How long is boxed cereal going to store anyways?

I think energy would be better put into becoming self-sustaining. Use horizontal gardening to maximize growing space, install wind & solar power where possible...basically get off the grid. If the economic collapse comes (although preventable, I think it's inevitable), it won't be the end of the world but there *will* be a huge adjustment period. Save seeds, gold and silver as they will be the next currency.

I'm not 'waiting' for a collapse, I just know that it's a possibility. It was then, and it is now.

A common misconception is that preppers WANT a collapse. Which is ridiculous. I hope to never have to use any emergency preparations. That doesn't mean it isn't prudent to prepare.

If you go your whole life and never have to make a claim on your home insurance, are you going to feel stupid for having insurance? Or are you just going to be glad nothing bad happened?

Well they were talking like this when I was in college & Russia was trying to load missles into CUBA.. The thought then was to buy 50lbs of salt because when no one has it ~ it becomes very valuable. The Romans use to pay their Army with it and they would take it into the market and trade a pinch of it for this or that.

There never was a 3rd WW. And I am happy about that. But I think one should worry more about just surviving in these economic times than the collaps

Exactly why people should prepare for doing without systems of support, instead of planning for specific events. If you prepare to be able to supply yourself with food/water, shelter, protection without outside help, then you will be better off no matter what happens- and even if nothing does.

As Jack Spirco says, prepping should make your life better if times get tough or even if they don't. Don't get caught up with people planning for the end of the world.

so here is the best thing you could ever go for yourself

Go to a small town and buy a small house for cash - you can find them in places like Lubbock Texas - $25,000 3 bed 1 bath - or in California all over the place in small towns for $25,000

Buy the house.. Rent it out - now you have a positive cash flow and a place to go live if anything happens... never take a loan out on the house and so then no one can take it from you.

Do that 10 times and you are set for life.

BTW, this is awsome you are helping those out who may not have even thought about this. There are those who think that the grocery store will always be full and stocked, those of us who know better will be prepared, it will be then that we will have to help those that did have their eyes closed to everything going on. I always buy extra veggies and fruits when they are on sale. My faily eats what we can and before it goes bad I can the rest. Canning is something that we should get back to. As far as a meat product we havent bought anything from the grocery store in a long while! We go hunting at least once a month. We invested in a dehydrator(spelling) and do that for jerky, and we also use it on our fruits and veggies as well. The best way to be prepared is knowing how to do this stuff, and doing it.

Another great tip is Planting a garden. Its cheap and easy and reliable.. Check the season plants and learn them so you can have different crops growing at the right season.
