  • I'm a huge fan of you guys! The music sounds wonderful and is performed flawlessly. (All 3 Movements are.) Please keep posting live videos!

  • My teacher for my Foundations of MUsic Education class was telling us a story ine time, and it was when she went to the premier of this in her college days. She said it was a small audience, because Crumb himself had set up the place to just be a dark room full of candles. The audience sat on the floor. SHe said she had never understood "modern" (or whatever you might call this,) music until that night...

I say this is a pretty incredible piece of music.

  • @SageBazle Avante-Garde is exactly the word I was grasping for!

  • Okay, that guy coughing in the audience is getting annoying -.-

  • @NeonPinoy7231 yeah really if youve coughed like 20 times and you still have to cough get the fuck up and go outside.

  • This song represents the vietnam war

  • and its funny... these days he thinks the piece is rubbish.

  • "night of the electric insects" .

  • It amazes me that people can criticize this music, it is so visionary and magnificent. In my personal oppinion this is by far one of the best compositions by George Crumb (though of course Ancient Voices of Children is a very close second). I love how the 'Dies Irae' theme is woven into the music, pure brilliance! <3

  • I think this first movement is called "Electric Insects".

  • Comment removed

  • avant garde music taken to the next level...all the more lyrical aspects are contrasted, thus intensified...

    bravo

    douglas

  • Love that touch of the "Dies Ire" at the end of this movement.

  • Noise is fun isn't it?

  • @Tokkemon I feel like George Crumb may be insulted for you to refer to his composition as "noise" (but who knows).

  • @munson3120 I wouldn't really care what his opinion is.

  • @munson3120 maybe half the composers of the last thousand years would be insulted for this noise to be referred to as a 'composition'....

  • @turnerjmulletboy and what do you base this assumption on?

  • @turnerjmulletboy Art doesnt have to be beautiful or harmonic to be art.

  • @vchavauty Though it is not harmonic, I have to disagree with you. It is beautiful.

  • @ThisWasATriumph8 I didnt said this was harmonic. All i said was that art Does not necesarrily have to be harmonic, to be art.... There are different types of art, and not because this is not harmonic or, what most people consider "beautiful", its isnt art..

  • @turnerjmulletboy people were offended by stravinsky, new ideas are always greeted with hostility. People thought thelonious monk sucked for a good portion of his life. If you doing something innovative it should always challenge the norms and make people think differently.

  • @turnerjmulletboy All I need to do is think of composers like Satie or Liszt (his atonal bagatelles in particular) to know you're wrong. But really, all the great composers have pushed the boundaries. I can listen to Crumb and find magic and meaning. If you can't, maybe your ideas about insulted composers are getting in the way of your ears. Maybe these composers would be more insulated by the lack of musical appreciation you want to attribute them with than Crumb's music.

  • i want to strangle the guy who keeps coughing. strangle like jack nicholson in cuckoo's nest

  • @indiscreetcharm you're sure that's not in the score?

    just kidding ...

  • terrific!

  • thnx for posting this.
