  • Do those have full pressure lubrication or splash lube

like the old Chevy stovebolt six?

If they carry 30-40 psi oil pressure the lil engine will

    be OK.

It really scoots up to 80mph, doesn't it! Better than

    many 4 cyl modern cars.

With an overdrive that rascal would twist the

    speedometer cable off!

  • Beep Beep, his horn went beep, beep beep, he passed the Caddy in second gear!! Great car, love AMCs.

  • I wish mine sounded that good, and shifted the good also......LOL

  • Do you have instructions for converting a positive ground Metro to a negative ground? I'm interested in using the Pertronix parts in my 62 Metro, but it's positive ground..

  • @lantzn Hi - The Pertronix is availabe in both positive & negative ground, check out their website. Cheers!

  • This things faster than my geo metro!

  • That's got to be a pretty funny sight.

  • They won't be for long driving that way~ But heck.. at least you're enjoying it~ So it doesn't really matter~ It's your car~

  • It isn't healthy to drive old cars that fast. They are not made for that.

  • @DiggityDave83 The motor, suspension, tires, transmission, steering, brakes are all new...

  • @DiggityDave83 "They're not made for that..." My grandmother used to say that very thing.

  • @DiggityDave83 ???? Really..... you're gonna stick with that?

  • Really? Going 80?

  • Parts? -just like any other classic; once you get into it, you'll find a world of enthusiasts, full of leads... Kip Motors, Dallas Tx, +there's a parts supplier in Carson City Nevada... Nash car club, Metropolitan clubs = parts? no problem! Rather, the AMC Met is one of the few cars that can be put together with all new parts to make a brand new car? using certain fully reconditioned parts of course such as engine block trans and rear diff?

  • amazed that you got a 15 sec-ish 0-60 time (according to the speedo) out of it. Nice Mods!

  • SWEET! I would love one! Speedo looks a little sticky though

  • Is it using the original Zenith carb?

  • @Bubbadaboo No, it's a twin choke Weber 32/36 DGV.

  • @seat850c Ah, very cool. Any other special modifications besides the distributor? I'm looking to get a little more go out of my met ;)

  • Hey where can you get parts for these I have a '58 and the metropolitan pit stop is pritty pricey

  • @scottyrox146 I use MRS, 1-570-922-0012

  • Quoted from fourpatts............Wish our 56 ran like that! I don't think it will break 60 mph downhill.

    -------------------------------

I have two, a 57 & a 60 and both do 65mph with no problem. The one shown in the video has a problem with the speedometer. It needs some service. They're great little cars.

  • i wanna see the outside that thing is so damn sweet. gotta love those old 3 speeds. its got some power too. i've got a 60 np in my driveway doesnt run needs some work. interior is messed up. most of its been eaten by mice and weather.

  • We had a 57 and then sold it.. now we are restoring a 59... you can actually access the trunk without climbing through the back seat in this one!

    Love these cars.

  • I just saw one of these (not sure of the year) that just sold at Barrett Jackson for $30k. I always loved these. What a neat little car!

  • @TV843 Thanks!

  • Wish our 56 ran like that! I don't think it will break 60 mph downhill.

  • the best part is the three on the tree :)

  • They're such wiggy little cars I always chuckle when I see one and secretly wish I were driving it, if only for the sense of spectacle it creates. You've got it moving along pretty well too. Nice little vid for a really cool little car.

  • Would like some more info on what you did. what trans, rear gear, I have a supercharged '58 met. with the Austin 4 cyl. I used a lot of bug eye parts to keep it mostly Brit.

  • its going pretty fast is it a manual or automatic ?

  • 3 on the tree manual

  • Tha speedo can't be right. It sounds cool.

  • Thanks! It's right!

  • OMG. I had a 1956 and I know it would never do 80 mph! Also, when I used the left turn signal smoke would come out of the column.

  • This one will keep climbing, the only limit is the rear end ratio, it could go a lot faster if the gearing were higher.

  • do you know the exact distributor and coil you bought i want to get the same for mine. Thank you

  • Yes, it's a Pertronix P-D178600 Electronic distributor (positive ground) and Pertronix 40511 Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, both from "Little British Car".

  • I always thought it would be neat to put a 5 Mian MGB engine in one of these, looks like it's pretty with the 1500.

  • You can do that, but you need to do the rear end too or you'll break axles. :-)

  • sounds nice

  • I think you need to fix your speedo! =)
