Let's be honest, black kids fail at school because instead of studying and making a effort they are listening to lil wayne and smoking blunts and most of their parents are doing the same damn thing, all kids in school get the same books it's just a matter of reading the damn thing, instead of wiping black kids asses and giving them the grade send your black leaders to black schools and explain how life is hard and what you get out of life is what you put into it instead of making excuses.

Sharpton represents the faulty thinking that equality is something that is given to you by government edict when equality only consists of our basic God-given rights as expressed in the Declaration of Independnce.

Government cannot create economic equality because we are all different with differing interests that we must be allowed to develop to become the best we can be. Such freedom to compete creates the success that improves society and gives us the best opportunity to reach our goals.

@RobSkywalker21 Well, government spending doesn't really have much to do with social justice...more like government justice. Teens and depression isn't a liberal issue, it's a child issue. Also, discrimination is discrimination, no such thing as 'reverse'. In either case, unless you had people say it to your face, then it cannot be fully proven and is perception. On the flip side, now you know how minorities feel in majority areas/scenarios/situations. So take it as an experience.

Mr. Perry is brilliant and correct. IMO the NAACP is archaic and has run it's course of relevancy. And after reading some of the posts here I might add that there are lots of sensible people of color they just are not as vocal because as soon as you open your mouth and you show you are not "lock step" with the norm formed for Blacks you will be vilified hence the silence of many of intelligent person of color.

Teachers should not be responsible for solving the issues of poverty and race when parental involvement plays the biggest role in a child's academic success. Charter Schools are skimming off the most involved parents and sabotaging Public Schools. Sad...

Steve Perry is doing a good job at his school. But, vouchers are a problems. What needs to occur is that teachers, administrators, and parents of African American students must teach and parent with the same attitude as Perry and other successful school leaders. The problem is that African American students are not respected by American society, nor in the American educational system. Public schools can educates students well as long as all the adults believe in the potential of each kid and act

That is a good comment you wrote there. It takes a village to raise a child, we need more parents involved in their children's school programs. Parents need to start parenting and stop pointing fingers at the educational system.

But, what Perry is doing is trying to fight the system, and show other schools the success that he did with his Capital Preperatory Magnet High School. If he can do it, then I know that other schools should take serious notes. But, it takes a village and also parents to get more involved and make demands.

I agree! I've seen many schools in Chicago that the education system is ridiculous. Also, I've seen many schools in the United States that are very below average, and it sickens me.
