It is not about addiction..it is about living and dealing with Bi-Polar disorder. She is singing about having to take lithium to function but it she is not herself when she takes it. I am Bi-Polar and I take Lithium. Sometimes you are way over the top happy then super depressed like a roller coaste from hell.

it's awesome song, and this version has a very good beat, but the only bit I dislike is at the beginning with the constant plucking. it makes it too......um...happy? it's about being addicted to a drug that helps with depression so.......yeah.

i dont find it to sound happy in the slightest.

because of the violins, it may have a higher octave than the original song, but, honestly, i find it to be very powerful and deep sounding, not happy at all. if you listen to the background, its not the least bit happy. the background instruments are what set the tone for a song, not the main melody. i am in a band and valley orchestra(well, was), and we had those notions drilled into our heads. ^^

glad i found this. i listened to lithium on my ipod and found myself playing air notes so i grabbed my violin and played along. but this gave me a whole new perspective. thanks...some comments made make me wonder though...you know how ppl want to play violin but never played before? what if you had no schooling at all, picked up a violin and truly taught yourself...wouldnt that be cool? to be forced to learn odd techniques and forms...i think it'd be so cool to not have "by the book" training.

I wanted to play the Violin but then I moved down south and they don't have an orchasta where I am so I chose to play Flute. It is so much harsher than the Violin in sound. I want to move back up to Minnesota so I can learn to play but I doubt that is going to happen.

Wait. Cause the chords in the background sound like something deep, as if there's another cello or a bass playing too.. Maybe it's not a proper string quartet. Vitamin has been known to use basses, drums, etc in certain albums. (Still, I'm sure the intro vocals are replaced by cello) Then Violin.
