  • this is all well and good but if this is a tariff that was explained to you when you opened the account and signed in the agreement the bank has every right to let the charge stand if they decide to

  • Can you briefly explain these steps if you are from Northern Ireland?

  • Where are the templates on the site I can find them, the website is such a mess. Fix it please, improve the layout.

  • can you still do this?

  • how does it take

  • Break the banks- everyone withdraw all your money at once, they'll go bust. They don't really have your money, they invest it. If everyone took revenge and emptied their accounts, they'd crumble. Every penny you put into a debit card is a loan you're giving the bank and if it was the other way round, they'd be charging you through the nose for that money, but instead they give you pittence of interest and charge YOU when a DD fails! You PAY to give THEM money!

  • @lioxoda I do mean 'we' everytime I say 'you', since I have accounts myself *blushes* oh the shame.

  • they do it here in America too, its rediculous! I got charged $105 for overdrafting $18 only way anyone is getting their money back is if you take them to small claims court.. and thats really sad because they are doing something illegal in the first place.

I have a whole new respect for bank robbers

  • I went over my overdraft limit yesterday, I think, The cash machines rarely show me an accurate figure of what I have in my bank. So i end up buying something, thinking i have money.

I have no money what so ever, not even enough to buy food, my dad was good enough to put £50 into my account this morning at 11am, by 12am when i checked it, the bank had already taken it out as a charge.

Now im back to having no money, i dont know what to do...

  • @hiiimatthew get your charges back and claim for the inconvinience it has caused you. Tell them it is misleading to represent inaccurate or out of date information on your account, causing you to spend more than you should. Therefore, it's entrapment- they do not make it clear so you over spend and then they can charge you. It's also exploitation if they charge you for not having money, exploiting the fact that you were poor at the time.

  • No your wrong! people are allowed to get overdrawn then the bank charges them thats just plain wrong and immoral then they slap a stupid amount of money when they know the customer doesnt have it then carge interest its disgusting !!. what should happen if you havent got it then you cant have it simple but the banks like to make money this way as its good profit for the bankers!. Maybe we should charge banks for all the money weve gave them taxpayers money there a bunch of hypocrites. loansharks

  • StolenMonkey you probably works for thwe banksters that why you post the way you do.

  • @StolenMonkey I understand the simplicity of what you're saying, but banks often trap you into spending more than you need, by not representing your true balance (showing an available balance that does not take into account pending transactions). To make it simple, if there's not enough money there, don't bloody authorise it. If you can't create a system effective enough to do this, then don't charge people for going over.

  • Call the bank and ask to cancel overdraft protection...I just did myself!

Call Senator Chris Dodd and show your support for his bill that will stop this shit from happening. He will limit the amount of Overdraft fees to 1 per month, 6 per year. Overdraft fees must be proportionate to the cost of processing an overdraft charge. His number is 202-224-2823. Call and show your support. Google Chris Dodd's overdraft legislation for more information. Pass this message on...post it wherever you can.

  • Well i will tell you the US will do something about this. The trouble with the UK we're just too god damn soft. Lazy so called legal eagles who should have been put out to graze years ago.And those who appear to be doing something for the good of the people we find out were reluctant and never stuck their necks out for nothing. So in the end we were stuffed.

Halifax Bank Kiss my fucking ass you aint getting a penny back so go fuck yourselves

  • Oh i forgot to say and a Happy Christmas XX no doubt to those who do pay up the banks will enjoy spending or wasting more of your hard earned cash and they will celebrate a real rosy Christmas while you are going to have to make some important decisions. Mine are already made i am completely finished. Its the end of my world but not the end of me. I'M GETTING OUT.

  • @yawroc You would think. I'm from Scotland and have spent the last 3 years in the US. I have never been fleeced so much by banks in my life. If you overdraw by a cent, you are charged a $35 OD fee and $35 per item that posts to your account while you're in the red. I once OD'd by $20 and incurred $300 worth of fees within a day.

  • i went into my bank and the person i had a meeting with called me a waste of space and a fucking dick!!! im wating for compo, just because im young they think i wont do anythin.. so paid someone to shit through her sunroof :)

  • and this video was a great help thankyou

  • HAHAHA nice dude

  • I really feel like standing outside the bank and shouting out loud to the people passing by if you have been charged get your money back and announce your site!! I bet the banks hate you. Good for you its about high time that we stood up for our rights. I really want to swear and curse but i will save my anger...

  • I did cause a scene in my branch of LLOYDS TSB. I cancelled a direct debit so that it would not bounce and incur charges. The other customers in the bank were very sympatheitic and thought I would be more likely to succeed if I co-operate with LLOYDS. They clearly have not had any dealings with bankers recently. LLOYDS TSB have taken more than ten thousand pounds off me and wonder why I am having tourble paying my loan. They want our money twice over to make up for their own incompetence.

  • revenge is going to be so sweet

  • It makes me laugh really how these con artist banks can sit there and say no they are not going to refund any charges. But as written below i am going for it in fact i am going to go for the six years worth as they have charged me in the past so going to get those back to!

Halifax the bank that likes to take more. Rip off merchants. Martin you are a star a real star i will be back here and tell all.

  • im with ya on the halifax con artists. im on benefits at the min and this month alone they have fleeced me £105. i now have my local mp championing my cause. even my account as been flagged by them. iv written ,rung and emailed everyone i can think of and i refuse to give up

  • Thanks to you Martin i am doing exactly this the Halifax are really taking the mick now. they owe me nearly £700 in charges and they are charging me now for the charges and not allowing me to get my house in order by still hitting me with over the top charges. Like i mean £1.99 over an overdraft and charging me £35.00 plus further £28.00 for going over my overdraft and there is more where that came from. I have written to the bank using one of your templates so now waiting for their reply.

  • do what i did. get ya local m.p ombudsman and citizens advice involved. halifax are ripping me off too

  • Well its april 2009 and have gauged from news and utube etc that banks are starting to crumble, theres no way out of this for banks ,there on a no win, give the charges back, hoorah they lose, dont do it,people go nuts and hell breaks loose, they lose, gimme back my charges you jackals all £3.500

  • Got charged £63 for being overdrawn £13. My letter is in the post.

  • dude, u r a hero to the people!!

  • I followed his instructions and got back from Natwest bank £500 odd back in charges HAHA WOOOO!! But they did threaten to close my account if i reclaimed again any charges! And guess what they charged me again and am going to again claim it back. If they terminate my account then i will SUE them bastards haha!!

  • Martin you are a hero. I hate banks.

  • W00t awesome day today, £38 of bank charges reclaimed, thanks for the templates!

  • I agree that charges are sometimes too much but Alll this bla bla blaa, why go over the limit in the first place? I work in one of the leading Banks in the UK, I deal with charges all day long and 99% of cust's account's go overdrawn by 'luxury' transactions, such as clothes shops. reaturants which I believe it is unacceptable ! Why spend money if one cannot afford it?

  • @nathaliebel why give money to people who can't afford it and won't spend it unwisely? It's a form of entrapment. No offence, but people in debt often spend more because of the stress of being in debt, it's a viscious (sp) cycle. If you're in debt, you can't afford to go out, but ironically, to entertain yourself, you end up ordering takeaway. In your mind, you're trying to save by staying in, but you end up spending more.

  • If your bank charged you $35 "overdraft fee" on your over balance of $5...this is usury, which is illegal!

They will not phone or e-mail you, but instead pay postage to notify you.

Their system is set to recognize the largest withdrawal first within an activity period. Keep your deposit receipts!!!

Take the bank to Small Claims Court, where you may act on your own behalf! Subpoena the teller, customer service person, and the branch manager.

Expose this scheme to everyone you can!!!

  • The banks must feel guilty about this because why did they refund peoples bank charges in the past?!! ADMIT IT BANKS!! YOU ARE THIEVES!! Give us our money back, and stop delaying things! Yiu are only making things worse!!!Btw martin, keep up the good work!!

  • MARTIN! Something HAS to be done!

I am not the only one screaming here.

I have a dormant account with just two transactions: £30 in - £24 out. Has been like this for years.

Got married, set up a new joint account and move all the DD's around. Made a mistake.

Found out when I got a letter saying I owed £350!

    See you there!!!

  • look there is no way that banks in the current climate will ever give you back one penny ! its bizzare to think that they would. at the end of the day heads of banking and commerce are high ranking freemasons along with goverment ministers, law makers and britains top judges. GET REAL YOU ARE A SLAVE GET USED TO IT

  • loser talk.

with that attitude you will never win anything.

a winner never quits-and a quiter never wins.

    GET USED TO IT

  • ha ha ha . whatever . you will see

  • i am still waiting for my money back...after two months!!!!!!!!!

  • The facts that alot of us well that I don't know about personal finance is just overwhelming. Kids at school nowadays are learning this at school, wish I did, never know what I'm doing or what's to happen in future.
