  • Best Christmas song ever!

  • The drumming is just isnt as good without Topper up there

  • @touchmadown he's pretty good hahah, but i get what you mean hah

  • to me this is the best song EVER

    Paul did an amazing job

  • This is DA SHIT!

  • DRUM AND BASS!

  • fag on the ear just so cool

  • Indeed a great song!! But he starts out of tune or they choose to sing it an octave lower!!

  • One of the greatest songs ever.

  • @Imnotsaidaouita oh yeah! I love it!

  • Is paul playing guitar?

  • @stoprejectingmynames Yep :) He played guitar because he didn't felt comfortable playing bass and singing at the same time haha :D

  • quien no hubiera dado por estar con ese bombom punk y encima hermoso I LOVE YOU PAUL SIMONON YOU SO SEXI MMMM

  • I think Simo did a damn good job on this track. He can sing just as well as Mick and Joe. His style may be unconventional, but The Clash isn't the straightest nail in the wall.

  • paul is great, its good to see him singing and at the center of things. you can tell hes not used to it, cant play and sing at the same time even! lol

  • Simonon was just a joker, for girls. Sorry, but he wasn't a front leader like Joe, just what's we calling in Paris, a poser. I ever like the clash .....

  • @MyDenmon He never really tried to be, he didn't even wan't to sing this song, Joe just made him because he was the one that wrote it. According to him he just wanted to jump around on stage. A noble goal I have always thought. Cheers.

  • Sick!

  • Don't The Clash know that the rules of rock 'n roll insist that you wear nothing but black on stage? And Paul doesn't always sing in key. It would work so much better if it was just pre-recorded, don't you think?

  • @gmartinz01 Without offensing you, I think that The Clash don't give a fuck about rules ! and that's what the punk subculture is all about !

  • @zazfredi You missed the sarcasm by a mile. Do you think I care what The Clash wore on stage? Do you think I care whether Paul sings on key or not? Do you understand that one bar of a slightly out of tune Clash song buries what is being produced today? I was being sarcastic.

  • @gmartinz01- You win the prize of dumbest comment ever.

  • @superlou1s It was SARCASM. Sarcasm. Sarcasm. Sarcasm. It drips of sarcasm. I. didn't. mean. it. I was commenting on the cliche "rules" that supposedly edgy and radical performers follow as opposed to truly revolutionary artists like The Clash. Sarcasm. Sheesh.

  • @gmartinz01- Don't you know the rules of the internet? You can't write in sarcasm, especially on youtube where the prominent language is fuckhead.

  • strummer be strumming

  • Oh my god this version is so cool.

  • I think I'm in love with Strummer and Simonon :)

  • 6 people listen to modern mainstream.

  • I wish they play it like 2 more minutes...

  • KOOL !!

  • Oh, Paul with cigarette and gum :D Love him so much!

  • The best punk band along with the sex pistols

  • The Clash is and always will be relevant to my life <3 They're still the only band that matters

  • @NisaArmstrong most influential and under rated band mik jones at glastonbury bad

  • sweden loves the the clash :D

  • wow paul siminon had some fucked up teeth then lol. still awsome though

  • @iplaythe4string they all do, bro.

  • the best song clash did live even tho simmer didn't do bass legend!!!!

  • AWESOME !

  • @vincenteloco1 PETE HOWARD!

  • @PunkarreG sorry, it's true, is Terry Chimes but topper is the best!

  • That doesn't look like Topper. Anyone know who it is?

  • @AndrewMHunter

Terry Chimes. He was actually their 1st drummer before Topper joined. He originally left because he didn't have the same "vision" as the rest of the band. Topper did. Unfortunately Topper got strung out on heroin so Terry Chimes rejoined. Then they threw Mick out and the rest is history.

  • @AndrewMHunter Yeah. Its Pete Howard. This is an unusual line up cos Mick left soon after and Vince White & Nick Sheppard replaced him. Most ppl think Pete joined at same time as them two but he was in slightly earlier. Terry Chimes came in for a little while when Topper got thrown out

  • Paul Simonon is the coolest guy on the planet.

  • Excellent!

  • go out and buy london calling

  • when they kick out your front door?

    How you gonna come?

With your hands on your head

Or on the trigger of your gun?

  • simonon is badass as hell haha, only problem with this version is the bass isnt loud enough, especially considering how good the bassline is

  • this is the first song i ever heard where i found the live version better

  • @therealMADgenius

wow really? tons of RnR live vids that are amazing.

  • @RussianBear05 i usually prefer the clearity of the studio... but to guns song life just adds some spice to it... btw russia is an awesome country

  • @therealMADgenius

thanks ive never been tho ahahaha

  • can't hear the bass

  • Regarding my previous comment, the link is watch?v=IlVKgnFWE48 if anyone wants to listen.

  • Is there a version with Joe Strummer doing vocals?

Also, I really recommend people check out Die Toten Hosen's live unplugged version of this. They're an awesome German punk band with songs in German, but the singer sounds convincingly English in the cover of this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @KingOfTheShrews of course there isn't, this is Paul's song, why would Joe do vocals? Joe also encouraged him to write AND sing this himself. :)

  • DRUM AND BASS.....Yall! Simonon is cool as fuck!

  • wow never knew strummer could play bass

  • ive always prefered this song live to the recording..

  • @queenswanwhite yeah its definetly better even so usually i hate live versions

  • remember watching joey ramone saying that the clash were the only true punk band from england that the one who could possibly defeat them.

  • How Can Simonon can play guitar and sing, but not play bass and sing?

  • @TheBeatlelover999 he only plays guitar during the instrumental, so he doesn't have to play it when he sings, but the bass is played all the way through.

  • @TheBeatlelover999

We can't all be those freaks of nature McCartney or Sting. Good bass highly counterpoint and plenty harder to sing to than strummering. Simenon's developed into a fine bassist but he had to learn on the job with the Clash from the ground up. ie one of us mere mortals despite his looks. Looking forward to seeing him and Mick with Gorillaz. Seeing the Clash in 81 in an acoustically highly-challenged venue was hard on the ears, although wouldn't have missed it for the world.

  • Joe Strummer is ... mooooooooooooore than just cool.

that word was created for him.

  • THIS IS 'THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS' FOR A REASON<33. STILL CAN'T BE TOPPED<3

  • Super video! The Clash is excellent!

  • damn this live sux a bit. im dissapointed

  • What year was this??

  • paul simonon wrote these lyrics

  • THE BASS SHOULD BE LOUDER!!!!

  • i like the cig between his ear and head, that looks badass.

  • turn up the bass and it would sound perfect!!!

  • joe looks pretty cool when he plays bass

  • @ShOrtieMAC919 Joe looked cool all the time, He could've made school look cool if he wanted :)

  • CUZ SKOOL IS 4 CHUMPS

  • Love this song but this is too fast and you can't hear the best part, THE BASS!!!

  • the probably figure since paul wrote the song that they should have his guitar part more loud then the bass. i guess they didnt get it that its about the bass line. but then again i mean were lucky to find this video, we could just be watching a cover.

  • more reggea than ska mates. thats what makes the clash the clash.

  • paul is the hottest man on earth . or was.. he-he .

love the song and the band !

    this song is ska .

  • @KniFePartY33 slower ska mATE

  • Paul is still the hottest man in the world ! Bye

  • @Rifederica can i agree more with u? XD

  • @RockinBlues4 sure you can !

  • @RockinBlues4 sure you can !

  • Paul Simonon is just SO COOL.

  • @1UpStaff i like his stance when i play bass i try to look just like him a move the way he does

  • this song sounds a little raggea

  • cuz it is

  • it rly jus slower ska

  • nope, ska usually incorporates a high skanked offbeat guitar the guitar skanks in this song are on beats 2 and 4 in the verses, ska also is more focused towards horns and brass instruments. Theclash obviously do not primarily focus on brass.

  • so u think they wud sound the same if they had no bass

  • SO GOOD ! <3

  • awesome performance!

hahah Pauls a star with that tele in his hands (wish he was playing bass though but as the previous poster stated that is a mean bloody feat)

  • Paul Rules!!!!!

  • The Clash é foda!!!!

  • In what world does that sound like rock the casbah ?

  • Dude, what?!

  • you have same vid on the clash as me

  • Comment removed

  • The reason Strummer is playing bass here is b/c Paul Simonon was not comfortable playing bass and singing at the same time.

  • i was searching for that answer all over the internet... where did you find that?

  • On wikipedia, I believe. At least that's where I found it.

  • @Khas101 It's really a mess to sing and play bass giitar together, instead it is a quite simple song, but the bassline is really far from the voiceline. Paul is like one of my classmates, always with the cigarette on his ear!

  • @Khas101 the good ol' wikipedia provides an answer to almost anything

  • @Khas101 But he can play guitar and sing fine? yeah that makes alot of sense

  • @Ddint93 He doesn't play the guitar and sing here. Notice he only strums when he isn't singing. I assume then you have a grand explanation for why he switches instruments on this song?

  • @Khas101

because bass can't stop playing ...

guitar can because there's a second guitar

  • @Khas101

    i think you're talking about simonon ...

    because bass can't stop playing...

guitar can because there's a second guitar

  • @Khas101 Its genrally harder to play bass and sing because bass is plurley plucking

  • @Khas101 I can't do it either.

  • Simonon is from Brixton, and he STILL ROCKS!

    RIP JS

  • Joe looks like he's having trouble with that bass and I know why...it's turned down TOO LOW.

    :)

  • Tough guy! ;-)

    As many former semi punks!

    I still like the clash!

  • Clash made this song much better than the album version!!! Mick Jones is the best melodic punk lead guitarist!!! mostly in adding flavors in guitar adlibs! pretty amazing how his guitar goes starting 2:28 onwards!!! The clash is still indeed the only band that matters...

  • @thelivinged but thissong was wrot by paul simonon, wasn't it? (escuse my so bad english but I'm french :/

  • @mary18o3 yep! Indeed, Simonon wrote it all even the melodies. He also did all the instrument to it. He always play guitar during this live sessions coz he felt confusing singing while doing bass. the bass of this are contra-tempo with the melodies so definitely it hard to play along with bass. that's why Strummer does it.

  • it is strummer on the album isnt if not who is it instead

  • paul simonon, the clash bassist. And it is him on the album

  • RIP JS

  • wheres strummer

  • hes the one playin the bass

  • y isnt he singing though

  • he doesn't sing the song on the album, why should he do it live?

  • yes, great version anyway

  • very good comment you know your clash

  • Great song - sampled how many times? Pity though that Paul was so inept he couldn't play his bass line AND sing... and Joe doing the bass on this version is TOO LOW. Still class though. RIP Joe.

  • As a bassist myself i know it can be hard to play bass and sing lead vocals at the same time

  • what?
