  • Great video! Super easy to understand and thank you very, very much!

  • I have an 87 XJ6 Jag. Will a master brake cylinder from an 85 XJ6 work for my vehicle?

  • excellent video

  • Hi-Fi

  • This job cost $350 at the dealer...but under $50 DIY...save lots of money :)

  • Oh, and finally bleed the entire brake system after you're all done!

  • First, you need to remove as much fluid from the reservoir as possible and disconnect the fluid level sensor if the car has one...THEN you disconnect the brake lines. Once you remove the master cylinder, you drain the remaining fluid in a suitable container. You also got to take out the reservoir from the old cylinder and slap it on the new one. Also, you need to use a torque wrench when mounting the new master cylinder to the firewall and tighten the fasteners to that car's torque specs.

  • I got a face full of brake fluied when I was bleeding the clutch lines, my brother apparentally didnt here WAIT A MINUTE and SON OF A BITCH!

  • @Jaket2000 maybe its cause your spelling is so awful

  • Dude sounds like he's from Canada.

  • ok so im trying to replace the master on my 1993 saturn sl2. nothing on the masterr is rusted at all. i have used liquid wrench to help loosen the brake lines and used a vice grips with a torque bar and STILL cannont get them to loosen up. any suggestions to help me get the nuts on the lines loose? would heating them a little bit help? even though i wouldnt be able t heat it much?

  • were doing this in my auto tech class at polaris an ive taken these suckers apart about 25 times in a week an you gotta know the compression of them an everything WHAT FUN haha but yea always put the shop towel or whatever over the fender cause that would suck to get fluid on someone elses car lol

  • old school but great video. my only problem is that the guys says 'you're done' after fitting the master cylinder. what about the air that was introduced into the brake lines when the pipes were slackened? It naturally follows that all the brake lines would have to be bled following MC replacement. In any hydraulic system all parts must be free of air!

  • @ged4x4 Have to agree with the bleeding of the whole system. I also figure as long as your doing a job like this to go ahead and bleed all of the old fluid out of the system so you have fresh fluid. Old fluid can cause issues also.

  • @mondo78

I agree, old fluid can cause a lot of problems. Brake fluid is a hygroscopic substance and therefore absorbs moisture readily. moisture in the system will lead to problems with the compression of the brake fluid and from that obtaining the braking force required to stop the vehicle.. Brake fluid should be completely changed as a matter of proper vehicle maintenance at perhaps a two year interval. When i have to split the braking circuit on any vehicle i go ahead and change all fluid

  • thank so much men ..

  • haha so old school

  • Excellently done!!! I have done "dyi" brake work since 1970 but you never fail to learn something from others. I appreciate your taking the time to do this. I was unaware of the angle issue of the MC for bleeding on vehicle and so on.....Thanks so much and to You-tube for this.

  • great thanks so much this was a huge help.

  • MASTER CYLINDER

    BOOSH!

  • Brake fluid will eat car paint, that's been determined.

Wear gloves! Brake fluid will penetrate your skin and enter your blood stream, its not good.

  • Second that! Wear gloves. That stuff is highly corrosive.

  • lmao if only i knew that for all the times ive had brake fluid on my hands

  • @98camaro1 if That makes you laugh your ass off, I suspect you must have brain damage due to break fluid being absorbed thru your skin, because really, it's not that funny.

  • @generatrix999 Brake fluid takes quite some time to absorb through your skin into the blood, at least a few hours. Brake fluid has similar chemicals (Nitrobenzine) and carcinogens as antifreeze (Propylene Glycol,) and many cleaning products, even shampoo/soaps (that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, all are the same basic chemicals derived from Formaldehyde....everything is dangerous if overexposed.

Everyone who has ever drank water has died.

  • Great channel by the way.

  • thanks alot

  • this really really helps me thanks

  • HEY DAVE CAN YOU HELP ME OUT WITH SOMETHING IF MY REAR BRAKE LINES PIERCE CAN I WELD THE FITTING AT THE MASTER CYLINDER TO CASNCEL OUT THAT BRAKE plz help me
