This is the only mission that yewing is better than turning and one of the must very be careful mission of both version -- you thrust away and turn the nose straight to next target after destroyed one then you will lost the next.

BTW, ENG version isn't worse, I think ENG have more challenge (harder) but lack of story. And JAP version isn't better but there is more story but less challenge.

Jap - long radar, slower planes, various story lines

Eng - short radar, faster planes, challenge

Looked like fairly accurate spaceflight for an arcade PS1 game. With access to constant forward thrust (through whatever abundant reaction mass is being used) that's about how a spacecraft would behave.

And that's clearly not an aeroplane. That was a two-stage vertical launch vehicle with an orbiter visually comparable to a lot of real-world spaceplane designs.

planes cant fly the same way in space as they do in the atmosphere because jet engines we have today need fuel mixed with compressed oxygen to create the thrust needed for it to gain speed...without oxygen, the engine cant function properly.

If i pressed the button on a lighter, i would fly and be going mach 1 plus and last theoretically infinitly. giant engines=wasted power. second, the point of launching an airplane into space is pointless. just shoot up a nuke. within 20 mile radius = destroyed. Third, the wing is pointless. it gives lift in atmosphere, but you dont need that in space. Fourth, the flaps would not work due to no air. yeah.

@RCGeek1 "No gravity" does NOT change the ship's mass. If the engine power is too little it'll take a long time to change directions due to inertia, making the ship hard to manoeuvre.

Dunno if nukes work the same way in space as they do on land. No oxygen to burn, no medium for the force of explosion to travel through... but in fiction I can't argue about making a capable WMD.

Why does the space shuttle have wings and flaps? So it can safely re-enter the atmosphere and land by itself, yeah?

@Chokchoo Did i ever say they changed the ship' mass? No. There is little to no resistance in space due to the fact of no gravity and therefore no air. Second, Nukes don't need oxygen to burn. Just like fireworks, THEY DON'T NEED IT.Third off, the flaps work in space just as in atmosphere in the vid. What? The ONLY WAY that would work is if the thrust itself vectored. Nukes may not need oxygen to burn initially, but with no medium the explosive force won't carry well. The energy will quickly disperse in vacuum.

I did miss the moving rudders since it's mostly in HUD view, but they're still not useless. Imagine retrieving a huge spacecraft from the seas. The Apollo lunar module was tiny.

@OptimusP There are some huge issues with how the physics/space flight model works in this mission. It does represent some things nicely (momentum) but in other ways it's pretty bad. Delta-V means nothing in the mission, nor orbital velocity.

The R-352 Sepia is not an ordinary fighter plane.

I find the 3rd person view confusing and disorienting in comparison to the HUD/cockpit view. Like the cockpit view, 3rd person also blocks a good portion of your view, which I find to be particularly important in Ace Combat. So that's why I fly in the HUD.

This is why a lot of cool japanese stuff never makes it to the west. Becuase if stuff isn't particularly realistic, it gets binned as stupid.

Probably half the reason Namco couldn't be arsed to localise THIS game properly and left out what sounded and looked like an amazing story.

Its not an airplane, see the booster briging it up away from the atmosphere? Actually its a spacecraft modeled after the aurora 2 which is a high earth orbit defense craft with multiple retro rockets that would allow it to handle just like that in space. Notice the *missiles* are not conventional type either because normal type would not be up to the job. Anyways love this game
