Unbelievably great artist. We saw Nils in Tucson several weeks ago and I am blown away by his talent. He was very humble and signed autographs after the show. He spoke to us as if we had know him for a lifetime. Real down to earth guy no pretense.
I lived in Rockville in the early to mid 60's and had a garage band. Nils was dating our drummers older sister...long story short...he peeked in to our practice session (torture) and smiled. Later we found out who he was and were all dumbfounded.
Known Nils since we both were in high school in Montgomery County, Maryland. First Grin album still among my Fav15 all time. This reunion on "Nils Lofgren Day" was fabulous. The dual solos with his brother--playing each other's guitar--always a hit. "Moontears" always got the crowd dancing after the moving "Like Rain." Check out the 1979 version also on You Tube. Nils in the R&R Hall as a solo artist is overdue!
4844847 is right, Nils is a great guitarist but a lousy singer, he always had a weak voice. That said I was a big fan in the 70s, especially his first two solo LPs.
i see Nils every time he comes to london, and thats quite a lot, met him to, half a dozen times and got every album he has ever put out. One of the very best guitar players you will ever see!
I grew up in Silver Spring, near where Nils got his start with Grin. He used to play at "Teen Club" at the Rec Center in Wheaton, MD on Friday nights for free. Sash, mini-tramp, band and all. We were all mesmerized by this guy who was a virtual guitar virtuoso at about 17. Been following his career ever since. He's Nils! He's the real deal. truly one of the top 5 guitarists in the world.
first time i saw nils, Grin was bottom of the bill, opening for JoJo Gunnne and Black Oak Arkansas in a gymnasium in Hazleton,Pa. He used to play a double Bass Drum while he soloed. Always an amazing performer.
Nils...especially with Grin... is unbelievable. Had the pleasure of not only opening for Nils for a couple of his dates... but then being able to hang out and watch him play night after night.. that's his brother Tom on guitar...he was always kind and gracious to us and just fucking kicked ass every night

I was front row center at this "Nils Tribute concert". Original Grin line up except The late Bob Gordon's son is playing bass...a little spooky.
