Strange, I sorta recall reading ingame from one of the quests she gives in Silverpine Forest that she repossessed her old body, hence why she looks like her old self. It even says so on WoWWiki. Night Elf? A former Blood Elf taking the body of a Night Elf? She would never do such a thing :P

And yeah, before she got her body back, she was a Banshee.

@flensdude shes not a night elf she was a high elf or highbourne..in fact before the high elves turned away from the moonwells they looked exactly the same as night elves,colour,height,the same but as u prob know long time after the worshipping of the sunwells and not the moon they did eventually change, they shrank in size the skin changed colour and they did no longer need the attritbutes or looks of the night elves as they no longer had the abilities,shadow meld etc...

Anyway, the physical metamorphisis due to the continued use of arcane magic transformed the Highbournes into the High Elves. The change occured during their travels across the sea once exiled, meaning that Sylvanas would only classify as HE.

The Highborn look mostly -in game- like belfs but they were the first elves known, then they some how became the high elves then they became night/blood elves I know its verry confusing lol. but originally they were all highborn -apparently decended from trolls-)

So the group split. Then the elves that had left to worship magic started worshiping the sun and changing their names to Sunstrider *he who walks in the sun* and they decited to call themselves Sin Deori wich means blood elf. sun well happend after the name change.

as i understood, the high elfs and the night elf were once the same thing, for thousands of years ago. The high elves was the closest to the queen, and the night elves was just the people of their land. The high elves thought they were better than the night elves and so on.. then their world shattered, and they broke into two different races. Night elves grow taller and darker, the high elves smaller and lighter.

She's High Elven, a people who were not warlike, more peaceful. Blood Elves are revenge filled, blood-thirsty, and magic corrupted. She's undead in only the sense that she did die, but her body did not get a chance to decay, unlike the undead people you see around in the game, who have decayed.

Yes they also call themselves Blood Elves for the people whose blood was spilt defending the Sunwell from being defiled and abused. But they are no longer High Elves.
