@w3stpol3 Compared to what? If you are 16 then I am going to assume you probably use domestic dogs and cats as a comparison -eh? In that light, they are more difficult to take care of.
They are very cool and interactive but compared to a dog they are messier, they cannot be potty trained, and they dribble pee (like a rat does), they have a highly specialized diet, they also have a skunky odor when they get stressed, frightened or sick; but those are really they only "negatives"
@CarnalContessa ohh ok thanks.i used to know this woman that had one and it seemed really cool. i was a volunteer at a animal shelter for about 4 years and we always had some of the coolest pets. at the time i couldn't own the anteater because i was only about 11 and didn't really know much about them. but if they are a lot of work like you say they are maybe a anteater isn't the best pet for a 16 year old with a chinchilla, lizard and turtle.
@w3stpol3 I didn't say "they are a lot of work" just more work than a dog or cat... Funny but I'm clueless about Chinchilla, lizards and turtles! Ask me about Anteater, Sloth, Binturong, Kinkajou! (*LOL*)
@w3stpol3 Well since I own a number of them I would broadly say "Yes," but the better question would be "Can you own a Sloth in your State?" Some states do not regulate them at all, some require you have a "holding facility permit" and still others require you be USDA licensed.
You need to check with the Departments of Agriculture and Fish & Wildlife in the State in which you live to see what the rules are.
lol. are anteaters hard to take care of? they seem like cool pets and i know i'm only 16 but if i could get one i would.
