  • Is their like any locked doors are any thing cuz i think imma go their and exploer

  • how do you not look under the tarp ?

  • I find it interresting that building is still standing long after the last Packard was made, and that was 1956.

  • @yeksrub Google earth broadway and sherman ave in new york city. the triangular building used to be a packard dealership.

  • 4:03 is when I come in. I find a way to that.

  • @KahlerEthan i know, creepy

  • I used to love to play paintball in there when it was called "Splatball City"

  • Such a shame to see all that space go to waste. I could have made a hell of a shop out of one of those buildings.

  • this abandoned building is still around ?? geezz i think they stopped making pakard cars in the 1940's

  • There's something very haunting about most of the ruined building's of detroit, it reminds me of the town of pripyat near the chernobyl fallout zone.

Out of all of them, the old Packard plant is my favorite.

I don't think they should knock it down, they should leave it as a harsh reminder for any future auto coperations who think they can dominate the earth.

  • Packard was equal to if not better than Rolls

  • And no, Studebaker has not owned the Packard name for many many many years. The last person i knew to own it was a man named Roy Gullickson, and his wife. they even built a new car. do NOT knock a car you obviously know nothing about, Packards in there hay day trumped Rolls Royces, they are the oldest car company in this country! show some respect!

  • Studebaker was up to there ass in debt, but there finances looked good on paper, and they didn't bother to tell Packard this.

Studebaker produced cars & trucks in South Bend Indiana until Dec 9th 1963, then from 64-66 still produced cars, but only from there Hamilton Ontario plant , and since the engines were cast in South Bend, they just used 235 I6 and 283 V8 chevys. the last packards were made in 59, and the 57, 58, and 59 models were nothing more than badge engineered Studebakers

  • Holy crap you have no idea what your talking about!first. it was closed in 1956. second, packard had a brand new V8 they put into production in the 1955 model year. That "crappy" straight 8 was one of the most refined and reliable engines ever built, you could balance a fucking nickel on its side on the cylinder head while the engine was idling! and packard had a entry level model priced around the same as Buicks! When Packard and Studebaker Merged...

  • studebaker was on the ropes, packard was a strong company, stude proved to be the weight around packard's neck. this plant appeared in a movie in the early 30's due in part to being the most modern automobile manufactering plant in the world.true the company made blunders,an automatic tranny that was un-relible on the packard v8,but the bugs were worked out.styling was at best ok.quality control was still above par.sadly a diminishing customer base.

  • "Beans! You Son of a Bitch!"

  • These buildings would make a good dare. Go into the building during daylight and stay the night. See if you live to see the light of the next day. Maybe throw in a hundred bucks if you survive. Sound fun?

  • if i was allowed to bring a gun-totally

  • @wingnut9090 i did that i was scared as heck! i brought spray paint! lol

  • I brought a Nikon D3000 and an HK USP 9mm with 3 spare clips when I explored the Packard Plant....

  • woh! that woulda made me safe.... im dumb

  • Why has the building been abandoned for over 40 years when it should have been demolished instead of having been allowed to decay for the vandals and drug pushers.

  • who is going to PAY for the demolition of the buildings ? YOU ? that's why they're still there in Detroit.

  • OUTSOURCING thanks GW.

  • wish i could see what's under the tarp and behind the door. maybe in part 2? Is this the huge white factory next to I94 near the van dyke exit? the one with the water tower on top of it. I always wonder what that factory was. We can thank our government for the loss of all the manufacturing jobs. They made it cheap for business to ship out the labor and import the finished product. A-holes

  • the idea of free market works. restricted markets don't work, people break the rules.

  • I think you are referring to the Fisher body plant. It has been abandoned since the late 80's.

  • @wingnut9090 That what has happened over the years over here in the UK. The Rootes group being conned by Harold Macmillion's government in the early '60's, by building a factory in Scotland to win votes for the Tories, where they lost money, then went bankrupt, thus into Chysler's control. Rover, Ford, Vauxhall and Peugeot ( the old Rootes factory) under that knobhead Blair. The list goes on. And the Iron Lady didn't help either. At least you still make cars to a certain extent.

  • Did ya'll see whats under that tarp near the end?

  • the entire packard property needs to be completely demolished and cleared for re-use, for Urban farming and reforestation..

  • dude your not drving a packard in a packard plant those ghosts are going to get you and your little car too

  • No cache' of NOS Clipper parts?

  • That might be whats locked in that one room :O

  • Is this apart of the world famous, now dying Buick City Supercomplex?

  • Greensburg Indiana has a new Honda assembly plant.

  • you should have brought some bolt cutters for that door

  • i remember when there were raves there...like 4 at once sometimes...

  • Cool vid. This place still standing?

  • I heard this place was built in 1903 and was abandoned in 1957 (got this information at h-t-t-p://w-w-w.flickr.c-o-m/photos/detroitderek/ (The dashes are to prevent this comment as spam, which this isn't).

  • yeah long time. parts of it tho have been used over the years for small businesses (that's what i read).

  • man i would love to go there at night woo jesus im getin scared just thinkin aboutit

  • Piece of shit honda

  • is it still there if so where

  • @b3nzyme its along east grand blvd in detroit... it has a bridge over that road that says "motor city industrial park", however quite a few letters in its name are missing due to excessive vandalism

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • competition has caused them to start making better vehicles, and i will likely go back to them for my next car.

  • We care about this country (and I especially care about detroit, which i love), we just put our personal intersts first. I don't disagree that michigan (detroit, flint, and other places) were seriously fucked by the big 3 going to shit, but i am optimistic that they are starting to turn this around. I just contend that its not just consumers that are at fault, but the big 3 themselves for skimping on quality (at least in the past) because they were a monopoly.

  • ok, i can't argue with your facts, so i cede the point. I do know that i was reluctant to buy this car, it was my first foreign nameplate car. I do still feel a bit better about it because it was made in ohio, though. Bottom line is that given my personal experience with that '98 contour piece of shit, and my 2 previous plymouths crapping out at under 100K, i hope you at least understand where i (and many other americans) are coming from though.

  • At least my car was assembled in America, unlike most 'american' cars these days. I appreciate your point, though, and I would gladly be driving a Ford if mine hadn't crapped out at 80K miles. I'd love to support american companies, but i simply can't afford to keep fixing a piece of shit car. This is why i bought a used honda, which I've had zero problems with in the 4 years i've owned it. BTW, I've been to flint (see my other videos), as well as the Rouge Plant in Dearborn.

  • I posted this in reply to a previous comment, but here goes again:

well since the last packard was made in 1959, and japanese cars didn't start entering the american market until the late 1970s, i think the irony here is diminished. this said, the point is taken, and the tire on that car was once slashed in detroit, presumably by someone who agrees with you.

  • To my knowledge the plant is still there. A few of the National Packard Clubs are trying to buy the place out but have succeeded in securing the Packard Proving Grounds from being demolished -- I hope this place is not next.

  • They haven't made a car since 1956, and this plant is still there?

  • It is like exploring the Titanic... memories saddly deteriorated by the time.

  • They should turn that whole place into a housing complex or a museum.

  • i live in detroit but i dont get why everything whent down?

  • i went here a few yrs ago, is the mustang and f-150 still there?

  • Dude you need like a week to cover that place

  • Great location - too bad about the vandals and tag-monkeys.

  • holy crap i cant belive you parked right there.

    i love the packard plant

  • were is this ?

  • detroit.

  • The Plant has the same design as the Old Studebaker Plant in South Bend Indiana. Same era, probably built pre WW-II. Take a look at a video shot on You Tube - Death of a Studebaker Plant. Very interesting & parallel footage you have there!
