Alright look guys. For all of those who are making fun of his finger nails. Your snide comments only show that you know NOTHING about guitar. Most if not all good guitarists know how to both finger pick and use a pick and in order to finger pick the CORRECT way you need finger nails. If you're just gonna finger pick with the fleshy part of your fingers the sound is going to be dim like a Bass not a guitar so keep your snide useless comments to yourself because this guy knows what he's doing.
Never use a snip to cut the strings. That leaves you with 6 dangerous ends. Bend them off and you will have no sharp ends for kids or others to take a trip the the ER.
I changed my string and i think i did it wrong somehow. They look further away from the frets then they used to be? about 1 and a half cm. is this normal?
The morons making a big deal out of his fingernails have probably never tried to finger-pick with their nails trimmed down to the cuticles. I play a bit of flamenco guitar, and I can tell you that having a little length to your fingernails is just about mandatory.
@Skyl1nePT so do I but what the hell if it breaks then its my fault, I had a D string break while tuning up a new set, was a faulty batch.....got a new pack free
@kjih03 man but you know what I hate most, paying a lot for services like this... you ain't paying a cent for your facebook, yahoo, gmail, youtube accounts, so they have to make money someway, you can close the adds if you want... also... JustinGuitar stuff.. is free
Hey Justin - thanks for all your great lessons! I've passed on the link to many beginners. However your stringing method is outdated as another method recommended by two major manufacturers makes for more stable tuning - see below.
Those post windings do not respond to changes in tension during bending, tremelo use or even tuning quickly enough and the delayed slippage is the main reason you tune your guitar so often. There is very good reason behind the method suggested by Fender and? D'Addario themselves. Half a turn is all thats actually needed to tune up and that'll keep your guitar in tune providing the nut isn't gripping the string. See - youtube.com/watch?v=1rhdxCECcl4 (I don't work for them BTW.)
For all of the fingernail comments, who cares? It doesn't affect your life, so stop whining about it. At least they are clean, not encrusted with dirt like you've been acting like they've been. Anyway... good video.
Sounds like operator error to me. Make sure to post a reply telling us how you had to take it to a shop and pay $15 or more to new strings put on your guitar because you were too incompetent to perform such a basic task.
uggghh damn! my electric guitar's high e string snapped and i was not able to use it in 1 week now i just got new strings, the set contains 2 high e strings, so i've got 2 chances, if i break that one i still have spare, but it broke then tried the other one and it broke too cause i rotated and rotated anti clockwise many times cause there's too much slack, thinking that no slack must be left, ugggh damn!
I tried changing my strings to another video just now and realised I couldn't do it. Got so fed up. Watched your video and managed to restring my guitar although I did one step wrong but at least it still works. This is my first time restringing :) Thanks so much you rock !
i once did the usual "pull on the string to keep it in tune" method on the high E and it freakin broke =(, and i didnt pull that hard...it happened once though...
@flip080210 If you wasn't such a stupid twat you may actually kno that many guitarist's grow there finger nails, particularly on the guitarist's strumming hand, in order to make finger picking, strumming etc. easier and more precise.
MY FU*KING E STRING BROKE!!!!!!! It's ironic because "BAD STRING" was something had attention to! Now I need to travel 80 minutes with train just for a damn E STRING!!!!!!! God what have I done t deserve this?!!?!?
Taking them all off at the same time shouldn't do anything to the guitar, not sure why people frown on it. They hang in the factory without strings on them for hours, or days depending on the factory, after being painted before going to quality control who strings and plays it. It should only mess up the truss rod and then you just have to adjust it. No biggie.
By the way adjusting a truss rod isn't dangerous if you do it in small increments the right way. Go for it when you need to.
ONE out of ALL the videos on Youtube that I've watched of changing strings only ONE, yours, changes a TREBLE string (Well, probably more accurately an unwound string.) I can change wound strings fine, but the unwound ALWAYS mess me up and make me throw a fit and jump on Youtube to watch a million videos of string changing. Thanks for changing the 2nd instead of 6th for once.
4:49 Lol, found that out the hard way with my 4th string tuning up to drop C, (I stay in B.)
So how come when i do this the the string crosses with the slack? It goes over the slack. It happens on the second wind when the slack goes over the string.
I have a guitar that the strings on it, the bottum part, it doesnt go into the bottum of the guitar. I had to kinda play it by eye, maybe that was the guitar he was talking about???? I dont know.....
This video was so helpful, but it still looks so hard..... After owning the same old electric with the same old strings since I was 8, I still really do not trust myself to mess with the strings on my own...
@alexaANXIETY If you can afford the small fee, i'd recommend taking it to any old guitar shop and getting them to change them for you, always worked for me when i was too paranoid to mess around with mine :)
Actually the best strings are nickel wound. I use D'addario 010-046! World-famous for their distinctive bright tone. XL round wound strings deliver excellent megnetic output while providing a smooth, comfortable surface that reduces premature fret wear. The result is strings with precise intonation and unparalleled consistency, set after set.
