  • I wished i saw this video before i broke 2 e string thanks for the video!!!

  • I want this video on my 550SH phone.

  • This video went viral on Manama

  • Alright look guys. For all of those who are making fun of his finger nails. Your snide comments only show that you know NOTHING about guitar. Most if not all good guitarists know how to both finger pick and use a pick and in order to finger pick the CORRECT way you need finger nails. If you're just gonna finger pick with the fleshy part of your fingers the sound is going to be dim like a Bass not a guitar so keep your snide useless comments to yourself because this guy knows what he's doing.

  • I could finally change my guitar's string all by myself:) I'm ecstatic! Thank you so much Justin!!

  • My fingers hurt trying to change my guitar's string:(

  • Never use a snip to cut the strings. That leaves you with 6 dangerous ends. Bend them off and you will have no sharp ends for kids or others to take a trip the the ER.

  • i love this man. i have a brain hemorrhage, didnt understand shit, in the past couldnt even change it myself, and now i did it lol

  • I changed my string and i think i did it wrong somehow. They look further away from the frets then they used to be? about 1 and a half cm. is this normal?

  • Thanks!

  • fuckin hell ive tried twice and it snapped like a toothpick

  • helpful^^

  • And dumbasses... on his site he says they are fake...

  • The morons making a big deal out of his fingernails have probably never tried to finger-pick with their nails trimmed down to the cuticles. I play a bit of flamenco guitar, and I can tell you that having a little length to your fingernails is just about mandatory.

  • Thanks very much, I'm new to guitar an my E string snapped. :/ I think I sort of get it now. Thanks anyways!

  • THANK YOU!!! YOU HAVE RULED MY PROBLEM OUT!!! :)

  • "If you have a floyd rose system...good luck!"

    Nice one.

  • WOOOOOW Man Greaaaat Way Thanks :)

  • you hold the string with your hand? thx so much

  • i tried to do the way that you told me it but the string keeps sliding about inside the hole and i end up having about 20 winds!

  • thanks justin helped alot.

  • thank you, perfect tutorial!

  • Cant believe that 51 ppl dislike this video, much easier than the knot method

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • I want long finger nails just like Justin!

  • @voicedify his finger nails are shiny too :P lol

  • What make is this guitar, looks like a "CHORD" like mine ? Mine is a CHORD CST62.

  • I always think that my string is going to break when i'm tuning it :D

  • @Skyl1nePT ..Mine just broke..... :( I feel ridiculously incompetent.

  • @flakdros123 omg me too! :O

  • @Skyl1nePT so do I but what the hell if it breaks then its my fault, I had a D string break while tuning up a new set, was a faulty batch.....got a new pack free

  • Pretty crazy to think that you've taught about 300,000 people how to change their strings...thank you sir!

  • I Hate Youtube ADSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kjih03 man but you know what I hate most, paying a lot for services like this... you ain't paying a cent for your facebook, yahoo, gmail, youtube accounts, so they have to make money someway, you can close the adds if you want... also... JustinGuitar stuff.. is free

  • "If you've got a floyd rose system, heh, good luck"

  • Great video

  • i can't see any thing

  • way better than expert village they made me waste some brand new strings!

  • @60minuteproductions The people who run expert village have mental issues and teach people wrong and can't do crap theirself.

  • thanks man!

  • if i use thicker strings should i leave more space for the winding part??

  • @weaselguitar45 no less space because they are thicker so they take up more space

  • if i use bigger strings should i leave more space for the winding part??

  • PEOPLE:

Only one of my strings broke, but I cant get any new strings for atleast a week, will this damage my guitar in any way? Bend the neck or twist it?

  • @collin292 no it won't

  • Broke my string for the first time..... feels bad.

    Thanks!!!

  • go look at bill bakers guitar string guide, that WORKS. best guitar stringing method if you don't get justins method (its a good method too)

  • I have flatwound strings, and I'm putting them on right now...I've always used regular strings, this is a guess, I hope I'll like it

  • Hey Justin - thanks for all your great lessons! I've passed on the link to many beginners. However your stringing method is outdated as another method recommended by two major manufacturers makes for more stable tuning - see below.

  • wow anti-clockwise sounds so cool. i wish we called it anti-clockwise.

  • @hailmary7283 I thought they called it anit-clockwise everywhere?

  • @Hola7895 not in America.

  • @Hola7895 ive never even heard the term :anti-clockwise" before

  • please get a clearer camera T.T i can see them but not very clearly....

  • Damn floyd rose trem. looked in the manual and string changing is bout 3 pages long....doh

  • 4:30 is the most helpfull part... i never had a teqniqe* for string stretching

  • For all of the fingernail comments, who cares? It doesn't affect your life, so stop whining about it. At least they are clean, not encrusted with dirt like you've been acting like they've been. Anyway... good video.

  • @TwitchyThePirate he has long nails cuz he plays fingerstyle classical/acoustic guitar too and he needs long fingernais for figerstyle

  • @TwitchyThePirate That's what i'm saying, alot of people i know that play acoustic (Such as Justin) have long fingernails because of acoustic playing

  • Excellent!

  • FUCKING QUALITY!!!

  • this guide can kiss my ass, i tried it twice and both times my strings broke......FUCK YOU

  • @poopdawg2301

Sounds like operator error to me. Make sure to post a reply telling us how you had to take it to a shop and pay $15 or more to new strings put on your guitar because you were too incompetent to perform such a basic task.

  • @MajorImpact alright ill tell you when i have a friend help me for FREE

  • @poopdawg2301

One of my strings broke today too. :(

It's more depressing than it should be

  • @robert51590 yeah it pisses me off, and theres no music store around where i live so i have to order mine and waite 2 or 3 weeks

  • @poopdawg2301

2 or 3 weeks? LMAO. You must have selected the "take as long as possible to deliver" option.

  • @MajorImpact yeah i know, it the email they send me they say about 5 days......MY ASS!

  • good tutorial

  • please clip your nails.

  • @xxshortstuff93xx Silly shortstuff, he needs them for playing the guitar!

  • @xxshortstuff93xx idiot, he's probably using his nails to pluck some chords when he don't use the pick, i've seen that on a lot of people...

  • @xxshortstuff93xx Silly... long nails are for finger-picking. My guitar teacher has em ;)

  • @Pramasan and his nails are artificial, not real nails.

  • @xxshortstuff93xx it's called classical guitar.

  • @xxshortstuff93xx The nails are for finger playing on acoustic guitar. I know it looks silly but it gives a more "professional" guitar player sound

  • uggghh damn! my electric guitar's high e string snapped and i was not able to use it in 1 week now i just got new strings, the set contains 2 high e strings, so i've got 2 chances, if i break that one i still have spare, but it broke then tried the other one and it broke too cause i rotated and rotated anti clockwise many times cause there's too much slack, thinking that no slack must be left, ugggh damn!

  • Thanks for the lesson! I changed my guitars strings for the 1st time today and this helped me out alot! I believe I did it right. so far so good!

  • I tried changing my strings to another video just now and realised I couldn't do it. Got so fed up. Watched your video and managed to restring my guitar although I did one step wrong but at least it still works. This is my first time restringing :) Thanks so much you rock !

  • My strings didnt break for eight years, so in all those years I never learned how to change a string O.o Thanks for the vid!

  • looks like way too much slack for my tastes

  • i once did the usual "pull on the string to keep it in tune" method on the high E and it freakin broke =(, and i didnt pull that hard...it happened once though...

  • im using ernie ball strings, are those good or do they break often?

  • what exactly is changing all the strings all at once?

  • Elixier are good but I like rotosound strings...

  • wtf elixir are great

  • Justin U R the best... tnx

  • Check this out!!!

  • Dude cut your disgusting fingernails

  • @flip080210 If you wasn't such a stupid twat you may actually kno that many guitarist's grow there finger nails, particularly on the guitarist's strumming hand, in order to make finger picking, strumming etc. easier and more precise.

  • @xRvBxHOMICiDE Nobody uses their fingernails, its call finger picking not finger nail picking dumb ass.

  • @flip080210 classical guitarrists?

  • thank u i thought i was doing it right lol damn those gay other videos

  • MY FU*KING E STRING BROKE!!!!!!! It's ironic because "BAD STRING" was something had attention to! Now I need to travel 80 minutes with train just for a damn E STRING!!!!!!! God what have I done t deserve this?!!?!?

  • @Matheus222 Dude, i bought like 10 of each string, I hate buying new strings

  • Does This work on all strings? or just the B.

  • @bandcovers74 all strings. you should start an the high e string

  • Thanks worked perfectly 5/5

  • Lol! "If you have a floyd Rose system, well, hah, good luck."

  • Great guide for beginners, such as me. Thanks!

  • There should never be more than 4 wraps around any tuner of any string on any electric guitar.

  • Taking them all off at the same time shouldn't do anything to the guitar, not sure why people frown on it. They hang in the factory without strings on them for hours, or days depending on the factory, after being painted before going to quality control who strings and plays it. It should only mess up the truss rod and then you just have to adjust it. No biggie.

By the way adjusting a truss rod isn't dangerous if you do it in small increments the right way. Go for it when you need to.

  • ONE out of ALL the videos on Youtube that I've watched of changing strings only ONE, yours, changes a TREBLE string (Well, probably more accurately an unwound string.) I can change wound strings fine, but the unwound ALWAYS mess me up and make me throw a fit and jump on Youtube to watch a million videos of string changing. Thanks for changing the 2nd instead of 6th for once.

4:49 Lol, found that out the hard way with my 4th string tuning up to drop C, (I stay in B.)

  • So how come when i do this the the string crosses with the slack? It goes over the slack. It happens on the second wind when the slack goes over the string.

  • @acdcxxfreak Can you explain more?

  • I have a guitar that the strings on it, the bottum part, it doesnt go into the bottum of the guitar. I had to kinda play it by eye, maybe that was the guitar he was talking about???? I dont know.....

  • thanks for these videos

  • Thank you so much!

  • wow thx bro it really help me

  • thanks man! 5* video!!!

  • thanks justin it was the right speed for me and i learned to stretch the strings properly and yes ive had problems with pulling a little too hard =)

  • Comment removed

  • I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys buy I think I'm going to change to Power Slinkys

  • This video was so helpful, but it still looks so hard..... After owning the same old electric with the same old strings since I was 8, I still really do not trust myself to mess with the strings on my own...

  • @alexaANXIETY If you can afford the small fee, i'd recommend taking it to any old guitar shop and getting them to change them for you, always worked for me when i was too paranoid to mess around with mine :)

  • i agree on nickel wound. however i prefer ernie ball strings. i used to use D'addarios but i tried ernie balls and liked them more

  • which strings are better : wound and nickel?

  • wound!!

  • Thanks man but can u explain more please?

  • Actually the best strings are nickel wound. I use D'addario 010-046! World-famous for their distinctive bright tone. XL round wound strings deliver excellent megnetic output while providing a smooth, comfortable surface that reduces premature fret wear. The result is strings with precise intonation and unparalleled consistency, set after set.

  • Thanks alot, that's what I needed and yeah I'm using roto yellows (10 regular) abd it's nuckel too.

  • You rock, thx bud.

  • This was really helpfull! thanks

  • holy shit thx!

  • so, i should leave my guitar (if i remove all teh strings) in my guitar case the whole night before i put new strings on?

  • Amazing :)) The best tutorial I've seen so far, because you don't use fancy complicated terms and everything is straight forward :D

  • nice guitar!

  • @49er323 Elixirs suck. Much money for some audiophilia bullshit.

  • shut up brokeass

  • @RockyRoadPl - Elixirs do NOT fucking suck. You fucking suck.

  • @RockyRoadPl you have no idea

at least the bass strings of elixirs are the best

the tone last very long and it sounds great

they're expensive but if you calculate it in comparsaion with normal strings its much cheaper cause they last 3-5x longer

  • Probably your own incompetence

  • u suck

  • Meatlooaf, He did go the correct way with it. Watch the vidio again.

  • no man he changed them the right way

  • very nice lesson dude i aprecciated!!

  • THANK YOU!!

  • well i cant keep the tension on the string it keeps slipping out and if i do get it on there i have to much slack its pissing me off

  • Thanks that really helped me alot.

  • if you're born with absolute pitch, maybe. otherwise - i sadly disagree. even my guitar teacher, pretty good jazz guitar player, uses and electronic tuner sometimes.

  • Ffs my string always gets really tight even before i have 1 winding and i do everything as in the video yet 2 strings have already snapped.

  • Thanks, really helped me changing strings for the first time!

  • Do you need to intonate the guitar after changing strings?

  • No

Only if they guitar isn't intonate-d in the first place

  • i think i make made a mistake because when i tune i have to tune the peg to the right not the left its the opposite. Can someone help please?

  • lol..

  • definately the best way to change the strings, tried it today, and never before i could make 'em look so good at the tuners, and do it so fast - took me 1/2 of my usual time. also it seems that they keep the tuning more, when it's set "estetically". maybe i'm gonna (at last) stop getting stressed when restringing. so, concluding - great vid, helped me a lot :)

  • thanks Justin ....... nice and simple....great lesson

  • Okay on my low E string, I don't have enough revolutions to go under then over. I can just go under before I get to the point where it is in tune. I don't want to leave it this way because I'm sure it will slip out pretty fast. I only have a little less than a single revolution.

  • won't slip out, strings don't slip out that easy (never happened to me actually)

  • I've been playing guitar for about 3 years and i never knew how to restring i would always ask a friend to do it for me. BUT with this video i learned in less than 4 minutes. THANX FOR THE EXCELLENT CAMERA ANGLE AND DETAILS.

  • thanks dude

  • thanks justin i just changed strings on my strat to .11 elixrs, thanks to your video!

  • i hate tunning it after new strings cus i always think that im gunna break them

  • Another tip is that you really shouldn't change all your strings at once because it makes your neck loose tension. If your guitar looses too much tension, then neck might crack/break. I also suggest getting a setup on your guitar. For gauges:

    Stratacasters use 9 gauge

    Les Pauls use 10 gauge

  • Lol, I use Ernie balls on my gibson les paul studio. I think their really good strings. ( A lot better than DR)

  • Sweet, how could you balls up after watching this?

  • FINALLY I CAN PUT MY ERNIE BALLS(lol) ON MY IBANEZ!!!

  • Sweet video! Just changed my strings for the first time thanks to this, all 6 of em. Had a bit of difficulty with the first couple but by the 6th it was a cinch.

  • Great

    It helped alot

    Thanks

     keep up good work

  • awright, i have to keep 3 inch long slack (i dont know how to write it, first time i hear it :D) for second string, but what are the rest lenghts? for first, third strings etc. can anyone help me?

  • ant iclockwiswe i never knew BRitish said that. Its funny how Americans use different words for the same thing. Ant sounds cooler though.

  • i snapped my high E string twice! hope fully i can get the third one on properley this video makes sense

  • So confusing

I'm just gonna make someone do it for me

  • just wanna let u know Im a drummer who borrowed his friends guitar to record broke the string FREAKED out and now u just saved my ass!

  • Thank you!!!!

  • lol anti-clockwise. Ive never heard it that way.

  • What happened to this video? its 0:00

  • Thanks

  • i like usin DR black beuties very nice strings and they're black which to me looks cool

  • yeah i agree they do look pretty bad, but eventually the black comes of from so much picking, ones i really like using are

    DR Dimebag strings

  • Really well detailed and simple to understand, I am amazed that people managed to get it wrong.
