If you record 1080p on a VCR it wont play back as 1080p.........the thing the guy was getting accross was simple....the more storage available the better the game content.

Ie: Games can be so much more detailed because of the space available....1080p takes up a hell of a lot of space. NO ps3 game runs at 1080p....they are pushed up to 720p..there may be 1 or 2 1080p games available now.

@lovinit19791 - I don't know much about VCRs but I'm sure it would be possible to write a game that outputs 1920 by 1080 resolution graphics and stick it on a DVD or even a CD. It might not be very long, or the models might look like shit, but the final screen resolution has nothing to do with the size of the storage medium.

You could even write something like a Mandelbrot fractal renderer and keep it on a floppy disk. It could easily output 1080p on a computer.

The higher the capacity to store, the better the quality of the final product....like you say a cd will hold approx 700mb, if you have 50gb to play with then you can make the product bigger, better....thats my take on it anyways :)

@lovinit19791 - Not really. You can scale a 1 by 1 texture up to 1920 by 1080. It won't look any good, but it will technically be high resolution.

Certainly with a 50GB disk you could make better textures, smoother models, and a long game, but the final output resolution is just a setting on the graphics chip, it has nothing to do with how much storage you have.

but some disc manufactures do have discs with a thin scratch resistant coating but this is available for ALL compact discs and not just bluray.

ps3 has 8 processing cores, running at 3.2 gigahertz, giga meaning bilion...

3.2 x billion x 8 cores.... 25.6 billion

but, that doesnt mean that each "hertz" will only do one calculation, it can do more....

therefore, it is possible for the Cell processor to perform trillions of calculations per second :)

It's that old discussion... you can have a game with insanely realistic graphics, a snowstorm in which all snow flocks are rendered one by one with unique features, an Artificial Inteligence that fools you into thinking you're playing with real people, etc etc etc.
