  • Sounds awesome, don't listen to the others. I can see you're a big Rush fan, Alex Lifeson 335 and the Hughes Kettner Alex Lifeson amp

  • congrats !!

  • Just wondering, where would you get a guitar like that? How much would it cost? I'm actually looking to buy this Alex Lifeson custom guitar, i just have no idea where, i'll even order it specially or whatever.

  • The intro isn't picked right.. Listen to the song once you'd see that...

  • it is told that if you can play this song, you can play anything. Well done my friend.

  • those assholes who are saying he's play it incorrectlly, lets see you play even CLOSE to what he's doing. ffs

  • Did you just use a volume pedal for the beginning of the solo?

  • Kudos. I dream of getting to this level.

  • Great job dude. Love watching what people do with the solos, both of them. Even did the obligatory pick slide:) Nice.

  • I laugh when I see people sayin', "YER DOIN' IT WRONG!" Then think, I'm so glad I'm watching YOU play this and not some hack job they could only DREAM of playing!

GREAT JOB! I loved watching AND listening!

  • I WISH I COULD PLAY GUITAR AS WELL AS THIS

    but i cant

  • he's playing a lot of it wrong, but it's a great cover

  • Nice Cover Man. I want your guitar soo much lol but i guess having an SG is enough XP

  • Nice work. especially on the slow lead. Nice gear also.

  • My favorite Rush tune, just love the volume swells section that begin at 3:15. Great job on the video!!!

  • HOW COME NO ONE ON YOUTUBE DOES THE OPENING SOLO!!! pisses me off... Learn the whole damn thing!!!

  • timings a bit iffy, but great cover!

  • nice playing...got the exact same pic as the one you have over the amps..lol

Alex Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitarists in the world..My fav video is him playing La Villa at Pink Pop with a broken finger..unbeleivable..

  • Fuck, man ! Outstanding. I have been to 24 Live Rush shows! If anyone is allowed to comment, I am- Nice Job!

  • good job men!!! 0 dislikes ;)

  • As I said in my last post great stuff , but you need to not hit the strings so hard with your right hand as you lose the feel of the song. Don't attack so hard and the tune will have more soul. Apart from that good job!!!

  • True Committment : Spending thousands of $bills on the EXACT gear used by your favorite guitarist, just to capture the sound it's purity. Very good my friend!

  • LOOKING FOR SIERIAL # 176 IF YOU READ THIS SAY HI PLEASE.

  • Great job.... Did you break into Alex Lifesons house when he was out, and use his stuff....?

  • Thumbs up man!

  • Good job. You remind me of Dante from Clerks.

  • wow so perfect. great guitar too

  • good job u big fat fucker

  • Spot on! The best cover I've seen on the 'Tube!

  • what effect did you use on the first solo to get that strings effect?

  • No No No Thats not how ya do it... ... Ok Ok Thats how ya do it :D

  • Amazing playing friend

  • This is great, mate. I'd love one of those AL signature guitars.

  • Man you need to go to Rush addicts anonymous! You've got all the toys. You play the notes well, but you need to FEEL the music. Play the shit out of that guitar. Alex does! Play some of your own stuff, too.

  • nice !!

  • Excellent tone and volume swells - don't let "faithless 1969" get you down man, obviously you are well aware of the "missing" note on the C9 and this was a very nice job.

We (Pegasus) used to play this song in the '80's - it was always a fun one, the second lead (6mns in) was always the tougher one for me to get nailed too.

  • just thought you should know, in case no one brought it up, but you are picking the intro incorrectly.. but it sounds good to me, i can;t tell the difference, but i thought i'd mention it in case no one else did. ;)

  • Great playing! If only I could play like you...

  • I played the slower solo over and over. Great to see fellow man playing it so well. :-) Superb!

  • the same amp alex was using on the snakes and hours it looks like. forgive me if im incorrect. great playing man!! i enjoyed this

  • Really well done and that is a sweet guitar.

  • Thats nice man, you even have his amp!!

  • dude! where did you get your guitar i love it! i love your cover aswell it's awsome

  • Good job...

  • Soon to post Cygnus X-1 Book 2 in its entirety. Stay tuned.

  • @rareformguitar very nice brother, im posting my jam today of me playing Book 2, its one of my favorites to jam to and get my chops up.Awsome tone and technique!

  • @rareformguitar

Where is the Cygnus X-1? Good playing there big fella

  • Dude you totally ROCK. A great tribute to a great guitar player.

  • @faithless1969. Dude, I heard you the first 1,000 times you told me I am playing the beginning incorrectly. Relax already!!! I know and it may surprise you,but I know how to play it correctly. I just chose to do it this way at the time. I was hoping you would post a video and show me the correct way to play this song in its etirety. But, still I wait.

  • @rareformguitar Haters hate and Rockers rock!!

  • @rareformguitar love that response!! hahaha...but where is the beginning??

  • @faithless1969 Intro? He didnt play the intro, least not the one on my record.. The one i found (stole) beneath a cave behind beloved water fall of some hippie burnout left over 70s his future days from 60s gone passed already. I was dusted and wiped some years away through astral nights galactic days. I see work of gifted hands here everything played is close as you can get, if not perfect, from the man standing on a planet covered with brains

  • I am so jealous of EVERYTHING you have!!! Love the H&K TriAmp and Cabinet!! Love The ES too!! Great cover!!!!

  • dude that was f**kin SWEET COVER! great band great guitarist

  • What chorus do you use?

  • Such a monster of a tune. Nicely played.. Do you find the Gibson US 355 to be a noisy guitar on the drive channel?

  • you are picking the intro incorrectly...nice shredding though!

  • is ths the same Bill that I went to school with in CC Texas..?

  • Pretty good but while playing mostly correct notes, the rhythms are off, a lot of this song is done with swung rhythms while your playing right on the beats. You just need to add some more feeling to it.

  • you are picking the intro chord incorrectly.

  • you're picking the intro incorrectly...nice shredding though!!

  • you're picking the intro incorrectly...

  • you're picking the intro incorrectly...\

  • you're picking the intro incorrectly...

  • Damn you for owning this guitar !!! .. lol .. nice playing ya lucky so and so

  • Awesome job! You're a mad man! Keep rocking, brother!

  • Is that the A. Lifeson 355 model?

  • You sir are amazing at guitar!!

  • Nice job. It's good to see the fingering. Nice equipment. Loosen up a little. I had gold hardware on my ES347, and it wore off fast.

  • are you ure you've listened to the song repeatedly?

  • are you the schwab? as in stump the schwab

  • I clicked on this video to get a closer look at that beautiful guitar. I started watching because it sounded like you knew what you were doing. I continued watching because I wanted to hear how you'd handle the "Alex in Wonderland" part. By that time, I was simply blown away. Not only by your ability to play, but blown away by your ability to dial in that sweet sound.

Give yourself a high five, man. Excellent work.

  • That was great. Gotta love Rush.

  • great job, and nice gear.

  • Heaven forbid....but if Alex should quit or pass away, you could step right in! Nice work!

  • Heaven forbid....but if Alex should quit or pass away, you could step right in! Nice work!

  • very good...nice ass guitar bro !!!!

  • Pleasure watching...nicely done!!

  • he has a very expensive amp =D

  • AMAZING

  • perfect tone couldnt get any more closer to alex lifeson himelf

  • All I can say is you totally deserve to own that guitar. Very nice job!

  • "Don't turn your back on a monster!' at 7:28 sounded pretty good!

    Nice playing!

  • your vibrato blows

  • you are pushing the time

  • solo off. but i cant expect someone to do that! thats a amazing solo that alex DID!

  • Nice tone! You nailed the sound bro.

  • How much was the triamp?

  • Yeah right Steve-O!! Maybe if I practice for another twenty years!! This is pretty crazy! I'll fail the quiz for sure! Have you ever seen Bubbles play closer to the heart with them? pure jokes, Ricky kidnaps Alex and takes em back to the trailer park! A must see!

  • Great Job... This is one of the most difficult Rush songs to play. Keep it up!!

  • Great job mate!! Very impressive...........wish I could play it that well. I'm also a huge Alex Lifeson fan, have been trying to play his stuff for many years......La Villa is definitely my favourite

instrumental by RUSH!! Keep on pickin'!!

    Steve in Toronto

  • This is spot on aside from the arpeggio, which as someone else said inverts the D and G notes. 5 stars.

  • god damn you're fucking good! i want to be able to play like this some day...i just need to fucking stick with guitar i think...

  • Nice job man. I just realized i'm playing it wrong by watching this, but then I haven't listened to the record for 28yrs.

  • Alex Lifeson amp, Alex Lifeson guitar La Villa Strangiato good combination, you kick ass man excellent cover you can hang with Lerxst any day.

  • Your Gibson actually just made me cream in my pants.... No lie! :D

  • You seem to be a big fan of Alex and his stuff. I mean.. your rig and stuff.

    Pretty nice.

    Go on rush fans!

  • During the arpegio in the intro, switch around the two last notes. They should be D-G, not G-D. Sounds great though!

  • Hey man, Great job on a hard song. Best I heard anyone do yet. Great JOB!

    Joe Tucson

Can you show the leads as a lesson and post it? Thank You

  • excellent job that is a hard song to play

  • the best version of that song is in exit stage left

  • Totally, but look up the live performance at pinkpop. GREAT solo.

  • you have good technique, but should smoke some weed to get more feeling haha

  • Nice!

  • Thanks.

  • F*ck yeah man. Great sound. Great Job!

  • Thanks for the comments.

  • Anyone know what volume pedal Alex uses?

  • morley or dearmond

  • I believe it is a Ernie Ball, same as I am using.

  • amazing !

  • Thank you for the feedback!

  • That sounds awesome. I love that amp. Are you running 4, 8, or 16 Ohms?

  • Thanks. 4 ohm. I find it more lively, less compressed.

  • good job on that. that a hughes/kettner amp? if you have the backing track for lavilla i would like to trade you tracks, check my vids out at ab9957.

  • you deserve more than five stars if i could i would give you 2112

  • Awesome. Thanks.

  • nice flanger sound

  • It is chorus and pitch.

  • Very nice. Thanks for posting.

  • fuckin sick, but like that one cats said wheres the intro? regardless im sure u would have shredded that to just wanted to hear it lol

  • Dude sweet guitar

  • 3:13- 3:38

are you using a volume pedal?

i conducted a little experiment and alex lifeson used the second output as an input from the amp, turning the pickup into a emf generator, vibrating the strings, and picking it up via the other pickup going out of the main output. hence that bypass switch. on the actual lifeson guitar, he added that so he could connect and disconnect the input from the speaker output. this is clearly seen in the pinkpop performances.

  • You have more of it down than i do man. Great job. Awesome song, great taste man. You did awesome, i have no idea what some people expect.

  • wheres the intro solo?

  • dude that was sick! where did you get the music for it though? did you get it by ear?

  • very nice, good job

  • a must have guitar the guitar just reeks with rush godlike looks I have like three comments in this video cause it owns so much

  • I want it :) how much was it? I would do anything to play just like alex lifeson

  • me sooooooooooooo jealous

  • nice job! thanks for the reply. hey man, i guess you gotta expect criticism from RUSH fans, perfection is why we are who we are! regardless, ytou are an awesome player, awesome. nobody criticizes my vids because it's a waste, i suck so they don't bother!! ha ha. when someone posts something this genuine, and on the mark, then people will start honing in on details, so remember that is really the ultimate compliment. Long live KING LERXST!!!

  • what switch settings do you use for the beginning clean sound? I just bought this guitar and it did not come with any owner's manual, thus do not know what the different switches for. thx.

  • I simply use the bypass on the Variax and and use the bridge pickup. A volume pedal is used and is cocked back about half way during the intro so that when a hotter channel is used for the lead I can go full throttle for the overdrive.

  • what is the name of that guitar?

  • gibson es-335 alex lifeson sig

  • Gibson ES 355 Alex Lifeson Signature Model.

  • You're strumming too hard on the chords. Alex Lifeson is more melodic with his strumming.

Just as a outside critic from a fellow guitarist

  • I didn't notice that until I really paid attention. But hey, we can't mimic everything 100% Without their gear, their guitar, and their hands!

  • keep rocking dude , nice cover

    exelent song.

    rush. the best band ever

  • awsome cover would have been cooler with the vol pedal solo at the start but stil great 5stars

  • Scroll down, and you forget this is a cover

  • wow such a beautifull guitar man. If I could get the signature ES and a PRS CE i would be set for life!

  • great job. you missed one of my favorite parts though!! The intro. great job, man

  • amazing dude keep going like that and you'll be the substitute of alex lifeson soon.

  • good sound..but the soloing leaves a bit to be desired..overall not bad

  • It makes me happy when I see someone on youtube who has a nice guitar AND can actually play it the right way. 5 stars!

  • Well done..

  • WHOA!!!

  • Great job! I thought you really nailed the Alex Lifeson tone. This is a good song to learn for techniques.

  • i love the tone at 2:55

isnt the part at 4:50 played up on the E string and muted? sounds better that way

  • yes it is... i noticed it too.

  • wow!

  • added to my Lerxst playlist, sweet! with nothing but constructive intent, i have to say that for the longest time i played the intro arpeggio the same way, then discovered that it actually ends picking DOWN from D to G, not G up to D. It makes minimal difference in sound, but can be confirmed in videos of Alex and most RUSH fans want to be as accurate as possible. i can't play much, or very well, but i do know RUSH quite well. try it or watch some video and let me know your thoughts :-)

  • A flawless rendition of one of my favorites. I play the arpaggio riff at 4:51 a bit different in the open C position, without the pinky. Now you need to post Xanadu with the double neck!

  • yeah, Alex plays it up on the E string too. I see this guy plays the riff at 2:40 on one string like I do, but Lerxst plays it all mid-neck. We all need to plead with Alex to do more ivideosongs lessons or just make his own DVDs!!!! I asked him in Reno and got a pick, very nice but we still all want the video lessons dude!!

  • I'd play bass with you, and my friend would do drums. Then, we'd be a band. Anyway, great playin!

  • dude...how much was that guitar??? that's like my dream guitar..

  • its a alex lifeson signature gibson es 335

  • actually is a alex lifeson signature gibson es 355...

  • You are the best

You can be a super professional, you that?

My english is horrible cause I'm from Brazil

    :P

  • You are the man, how much was the amp? I wanna get me one of those!

  • that amp head is like £2,500

  • really sweet job ... I can but dream of the 335 signature - did mine on the Les Paul :-S

  • It's a ES-355. At least the one Alex plays is.

  • Awesome!!! RUSH!!!!!!

  • too cool!
