you can rotate the device without sliding out the keyboard :), on mine you can anyway. But I really can't see why anyone would want to type with it like that when there's a EXCELLENT physical keyboard to type with. It truly is a fantastic all rounder. Great price too - just £320 for Carphone Warehouse! :)
Motorola Milestone 2.1: Best Phone I Have Used So Far, Mine Has No Problems, And The Orientation Screen Works Fine..., Galaxy, Iphone, Blackberry.... Throw Them Away Get A Milestone
I just want to say that it was a serious review. I have a suggestion. Since you review almost all the mobiles, I suggest you also compare similar features with other phones in same category. It helps viewers to make up their minds in selecting a product over another.
Missed the reply to my comment. Thanks Maxlul2. I did take the plunge in the end. The default messaging app turns anything above 3 messages length into an mms (which is useless as it cost extra outside my contract) but a lovely app called Handcent is a great replaement. Up to 15 sms can be linked at once. All in all this phone is fantastic. You can't go wrong. FYI also. If you get it on T-mobile in the UK, the limit speed by default to 350kbps which is useless on a phone carrying 7.2mbps hsdpa.
Will the menu and the home screen be in landscape mode when u're not opening the phone's keyboard? Please let me know cause i'm going to buy this baby next week...Thanks alot.
can u use the milestone in north america?? im lookin to move on from the IPHONES and want a droid but dont want to pay the cancellation fee for AT&T in order to get a droid..
One thing when you install apps do they go on the phone or on the memory card, hero user here and this is one thing that bugs me, i know you can do apps 2 sd but you shouldn't have to it should do it automatically.
I'm looking to get a UK Milestone this week, but there's one last thing I have to know. Does anyone know if you can you link up to 10 sms's into one text message, or are you limited to the 160 characters per message (like my old crappy Viewty I binned)
yes you can link up to 10 sms (maybe even more) i wrote a message that was 4 messages long, probably you can go up to ten or more. keep in mind that i text with the handcent app (wich you can get at the market of course) you should totally get this phone, its AWESOME xD
They have the same processor, Milestone is underclocked though. But lets see you run Desktop applications on your Android phone. Oh wait, JAVA HAHAHAHAA
You're comparing a prototype phone, to a market ready phone!!
Its mostly Maemo vs Android here, its all up to what you prefer. Maemo is a full desktop GNU/Linux operating system. Android is the best mobile operating system
Nokia clearly says this is a device that enthusiasts should lay their hand on for developing purposes to pave the way for Maemo in the future. The first consumer Maemo device should be released this year, along with devices with the Open source Symbian filling in the lower end
Well its up to the person to determine what "apps" they like better. I find Maemo apps to be more feature rich and more fulfilling, plus I use Linux on my desktop, so having it on a mobile device is a great experience for me.
You can use the onscreen keyboard in landscape mode. Not sure why the reviewer said you cannot. If you are in landscape mode in a text entry field, the virtual keyboard pops right up.
I've already addressed this in earlier comments but the mistake I made when looking at this in the video was that I had the hardware keyboard open (as you can see) and with the keyboard open you cant use the on screen keyboard, which makes sense. Bare in mind that I only just got my hands on it when I recorded this!
Well, when I watch videos of devices like this I like to see the device in as much detail as possible. If you need to set the lighting like this in order to make the screen visible to us, I suggest you use two different sets of lighting, one for a detailed view of the device itself and one for watching the screen!
BTW: Big fan and subscriber of your unboxings and reviews, in spite of what the previous comment might suggest.
You cant be that much of a fan else you would have seen that I actually have two Milestone videos. One with nice bright lights for you to see the device when I unboxed and toured the hardware and this one recorded in near darkness! :P
Obviosly I´ve got other things to do than sit around and watch your vids all day, and yes, I must have missed that one, and yes, I no longer consider my self a fan of you, so I guess you´re right after all.
Oh, and maybe you´d want to let people, like myself, that haven´t watched your other vid, know that you actually have a nother vid, showing the device in detail.
HI!! can you do a review about the sony E. w995..because i want that phone and i want to know somethings about that!! the single review about w995 is from a russian i think..with a funny accent..so plz!! answe to me ok!! :)
i completely AGREE. i hate the droid and people only like it cause they think it beats the iphone. Which i dont think you can compare because the Os on the droid is availably on a number of phones in the us ( exclude the fact that it is 2.0)
Well put it this way. if a phone wants to become noticed they have to be unique and the droid really isnt. what is the wow factor of it. The wow factor is that it has android 2.0 which all android devices will be upgradable too soon. and alos the samsung moment is almost the same as this and the tmobile cliq.
When he unlock the phone and open applications it's the same animation in the Iphone, because we like the smooth movements all make more like Iphone :D
Yes it does, that's more or less the only real difference between it and US version (The Droid)....well not counting that this is a GSM phone and the Droid is CDMA.
display generic xD
