Is this machine chopping up every part of the corn plant, like stalk, leaves, cob and everything? Does is get added to other grains for cattle food or what...I'm not a farmer and just wondering...
Everything gets chopped. The stalk is left about 10 inches above the ground. The real nutritional value is mainly in the cob and the stalk is just a fattener. The crop is consolidated and fed to cows over winter. Its feed on its own or with grass silage. Some farmers have rations which include grain, Maize silage, Grass silage, wholecrop, barley, and powdered minerals..
one way to solve this, when sowing the maize first dont sow around the outer headland,it would only be one or two loads you miss out on, and the harvest can side fill the trailer and have none of this reverse loading or driving behind the harvester either
I don't know in which country you live in but this is in the Netherlands, and the price per hectare is very high. And wan't would you want to do with the headlands? That's just trowing away money. Also, the pieces of land are quite small in my region, this one is about 3,5 hectare and that's one of our bigger pieces.
Nice to have another look on it though, it does make me think ;).
the reason they do it that way is so they are not flattening the crop, the would only do that for the first lap, and having the hoist up is perfectly safe if the field is flat with no rocks sticking up
as for crashing, if both drivers know whats going on, and knows the field, and has the right equipment, like RT's and cameras
Very slow and high risk. Turning in the corner of the headland took ages. Having the trailer up like that will compromise stability, and driving backwards substantially reduces driver vision, which means the forager is more likely to be damaged. We do the common sense thing, and drive forwards!!
Driving like this is for real men! and keeps your tractor clean of those dirty mais juices.. For the rest just good communication and it is no problem en probably the most exciting part of the day
howz it hard?? turn left, trailer goes right nd turn right, trailer goes left nd ive been drivin form when i was 9 nd trailerin form nd now part time 890 driver so get screwed
obvious question, why dnt you have a pick up hitch on your forger. great work though. steering axles lock when you reverse dnt they so he is reversing like a normal trailer!
You can tell this guy knows what he is talking about.. look he can even soell simple words like easy and using. Dude go and actualy drive a tractor. then come back and tell me "silage trailers r fuck esay 2 revsres"
That is the must stupid thing I ever seen what if the chopper stops . In my small farming town a drunk guy went to sleep in the corn feild he came out in a few buckets , The chopper driver thought he hit a dog at first.
you will lose more corn if you blow over the tractor, and this is easier then it loooks really. These trailers are quite long so they drive easy. Only thing you have to worry about is the level of tipping. If it's wet they probably tip a bit less, and you musn't rush in the corners.
I've driven with this trailers and they are really nice to work with, backwards driving with this is just as easy as driving forwards.
Great video. Has the trailer got a steering axle to get around the corner easier? Surely you cannot fill up the trailer with it tipped like that? Is it not a bit unstable? Try doing it on a side-hill!! Also, did the second trailer have to reverse around the field to catch the forager when the first was full?
You're also right about the filling, it's filled for 80 to 90% i think. Offcourse it's a bit more unstable, but not that much really, just be carefull.
And again yes, the second trailer had to do a full reverse around the field.
I don't know if you ever drove bachwards with a long trailer, but it's easy;)
i made this video, so i will answer your questions
fastrac: the harvester has got a pick-up hitch, but if you must get everytime the trailer of the tractor and put it on the harvester it will take a while longer. And you can't make 1 round with it, this is already the second trailer
sandfarmer: it's in the middle the netherlands(or call it holland)
stupidest thing i ever seen

Would it not be just as handy to drive right behind the harvester, that jag is more than fit to blow it over the tractor and into the trailer.

1. The tractor is tipped up so he can see were he is driving.
2. It is a dolly
3. It is very slow.
haha u call this good reversing??!!??

Everything get's chopped till about 20 cm from the ground. The tractors drive it onto a pit where it get's compacted and then fed to the cows.
Next to grass it's a cows main food.

Why Reverse. We just follow behind the chopper going ford. Do you always reverse load or was this just for the video?
paulderbyshire1919 2 years ago
Well first of all. it's not me, it's a local contractor ;)
He always does it this way. Some other contractors with forage wagons in stead of tippers do it the way you say, just forward.
I guess it's just habit. It's not necasary the best way but just a possible way. ;)

strap a king size mattress to the back of the trailer!! it will look dull but stop the odd bash from doing perhaps quite as much damage!

benthebodger 3 years ago
This 860 does have a PUH. Only used for an addetive tank though.
These trailers have forced steering, so the locking would be a bit difficult.
When you change the trailer everytime I think it would consume more time then this way.
Anyway, this isn't the only way to go, it's only 1 way to go.
It's somewhat more difficult then just driving behond, but if the drivers are skilled it goes like a train.
GerbertXL 3 years ago
Don't forget another very good reason to drive backwards: if you get stuck with the trailer you can just drive away forward.
Also the chopper has only been hit once, and that was by a guy who only works there when the're busy :D.

Why can't you just fill the trailer over the cap of the tractor, seen it done all the time and it works fine.
