dude... the long bow was made by many the welsh but the welsh came encountered with many different types of bows from scanidavia and ireland and england and scotland and france and so on, so their craftsmen made a bow from examining all these bows and made a superior bow made out of yew that over threw all other bows, and the welsh became the masters of the long bow
The Welsh became famous as users of the Longbow against the English during Edward I campaigns there. However there been many finds of Iron age graves in peat bogs in the low countries, the Alps and Scandinavia. Radio Carbon dating has proved them to predate the Middle-ages. Suffice to say, the Longbow or "English longbow" as it most commonly known today, has no definitive origin.
then why is it called the english longbow if, The longbow was first recorded as being used by the Welsh in 633 C.E., when Offrid, the son of Edwin, king of Northumbria, was killed by an arrow shot from a Welsh longbow during a battle between the Welsh and the Mercians -- more than five centuries before any record of its military use in England.
well by what i know England later defeated the wales after a long struggle and forced many welsh longbowmen to join the english army which they later used to try and beat back the scottish
yea during the time of william wallace the english used welsh longbowmen whom they hired or forced into service after they beat the wales, its in like every txt book history show and historian......
the "English Longbow" actually showed up around the same time in southern England, Wales, the Cherokee nations and the Chinese coast at about the same time.
That is at least going by what my archery teacher told me.
Only England used it properly. Unless you count bison hunting...
Sometimes it happens if you twist the string a bit before release, the string tries to get straight again, putting extra pressure on the inside of the nock, which can cause the arrow to fly sideways and all other sorts of strange stuff.
That's not a "backfire". It's a DRY-FIRE. There is a good chance you junked the bow. Don't be surprised to see a limb crack or separate soon. Very Naughty!
you wasted 19 seconds of my life D:

its called the english longbow cos its a english variety?
since u can get spanish longbows etc, easy logic dictates this yeah? :P
danfrost313 3 years ago
A lot of english longbows, now and back in the day came from overseas. So as to preserve the woodland in England.
Nowadays, for a warbow quality longbow you need to get them cut and crafted from Oregon, where they've got tons of trees.

um, what did i post as a comment on this =/

Looks like your nock didn't come off the string.
Sometimes it happens if you twist the string a bit before release, the string tries to get straight again, putting extra pressure on the inside of the nock, which can cause the arrow to fly sideways and all other sorts of strange stuff.
Especially in a bow with a big draw weight.

It looked like the nock broke on the arrow. Was that what happened?
Hopefully, you didn't damage your bow.
archeryfiend 4 years ago 2
Luckily, several months on after regular use, there doesnt seem to be any lift on the laminations on the limbs or cracks, Ive just been very lucky.

A tight nock wouldn't do that on such a powerful bow...
It came loose more like.
IF the bow isn't damaged he was lucky.
