  • Gilels is so supple here--absolutely gorgeous. Mesmerizing.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • ooohhh ssoo beautiful so so beautifuuuulll !!!!!

  • Oh my God: these are definitely the best variations of Bach.I Just Love it.

"I believe in Bach, the Father, Beethoven, the Son, and Brahms, the Holy Ghost of music." — Hans von Bülow (1830-94)^^

  • @lumeemi2001 Indeed! (:-D) I wonder if the purist in Von Bulow was reacting to a reviewer who stated that there was a trinity of which Liszt was the father, Thalberg the son, and Dreyschock the holy ghost! (from Arthur Loesser's book 'Men, women, and pianos')

  • @Noshirm xD To be honest...I found it in the website dedicated to Rosalyn Tureck. But i find it more suiting to Bach, Beethoven and Brahms ^^

Speaking of Tureck: I AM sure she played the Aria Variata too. Can anyone confirm that for me? I mean: Gilels is excellent, but if anyone knew how to play Bach for sure, it was her. :D

  • @lumeemi2001 Agreed entirely! Yes, Tureck DID play these Variations. I heard a recording of them a number of years ago, though I am unaware of the label the disc was on. Mine was a copy.

  • Do you have this disc? The Schumann Piano Sonata no. 1 - it is a masterpiece; the young Gilels must have made a wonderful recording of it! The 'Aria Variata a la maniera Italiana' is so rarely heard. I heard Tureck in this work years ago and ever since have longed to hear it again. Thanks for this post.

  • Very mannered playing... Don't like it that much, but yeah, thanks for sharing :)))

  • Thx for sharing -
