Love the antique colors of each trolley, so rich, and vibrant.Bubble gum pink yummy.Love the ringing of the bell, so old timey. great footage inside and out of the trolley.Want to visit Memphis and ride a trolley myself, seems fun.@hoteldennis where exactly is this downtown Memphis? Thanks for sharing.
Yes it is sad - history being erased but lets be thankful its only the poles and not the whole system! Many cities across Russia are totally getting rid of their trolleys!
The Council Crest cars in (I think) Seattle had bow collectors installed on them because it mimmicks the trolley poles to an extent while having the large contact area of a pantograph, plus they can be raised and lowered from inside the car like a pantograph. I thought that was a nice compromise.
The operators had to get out of the cars to change ends on the short cars. The union saw this as a danger since they had to walk in the street. They wanted pantographs instead. Still seems lame.
i hate to see pantos on heritage streetcars that originally sported trolley poles.
it's a shame that Melbourne (Australia) has also removed trolley poles on their W-class historic trams. The cars' roofs had to be strengthened in order to support the weight of pantos. It just doesn't look right!
The cars run on Main St. right in the downtown.
