In 1952-54 (as a young USAF dependent) lived in nearby (15 mi up the A143) Botesdale. Stayed in the Square House (St. Marys Sq.) several weeks at each end of that time. Had many visits to the Abbey grounds. Looks like one of those cooler June days in the UK!
@wa5iyx The USAF bases nearby were Lakenheath and Mildenhall. I worked at The Angel Hotel around 1958 as an 18 year old and both AF bases for a while. As a result of all that American influence I immigrated to the USA in 1963. I have traveled a lot since then, I am not English but Bury St. Edmunds has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Some of my happiest memories are from there. Even though I was half "Jerry" and half Irish, the people treated me very well.
Bury has changed slot since then
