lol. I recommend rolling your own paper tubes. You can roll a full 30cm (here in Aus, I assume its 12" in US/Canada) roll of craft paper around a suitable dowel and get 3 or 4 rockets from each rolling. Still easy and without the risk of hard, sharp shrapnel!

Just a lil tip 4 you all. Don't Use PVC pipe, If it blows up it sends shrapnell(sharp pieces) everywhere. Try CPVC. it will stretch an much less likely to send out debris, or even sch80 or better pipe.

I have the same problem, but I think you can get sodium chlorate from weedkiller, I'm gonna check it out next week, I'll tell you if it is still available and what brand etc.

It's is more powerful than KNO3 but is also hygroscopic, but it's about the only substitute really.

Thats bullshit! pause it at 0:21 seconds and you can see that it just flew out of the tape in the upper left corner and the shit that you hear hitting the stairs is just chunks of burnt propellant, that was still cool though.

I was there. It did blow up and tear the tape to shreds. My stairs are in perfect condition, and I believe that they would take on serious damage if a large rocket hit them.

It is a combonation of them both, as multiple layers of tape were used. Pvc shatters, it does not bend or rupture. When the rocket exploded, the shards of pvc pipe ripped the tape apart, causing the illusion of actual flight. Besides, why do you care so much?

I don't really care that much, its just that I have launched like hundreds of pvc pipe rockets and none of them have exploded, so I didn't really believe it when I saw it

Ah I see. Appearantly, I made the nozzle much to small for the diameter of the rocket, thus causing an explosion. This was a test to see if my ejection device would work. Obviously not.

LOL sounds like you successfully made your first exploding field rocket.

But if you look closer, you will see that it did not realy explode. It was just TOO POWERFUL, and it managed to break free of the duct tape.

Actually, I looked like it was too powerfull, but it did indeed explode. It sent shards of flying PVC bits and large chunks of propellant everywhere, and there was no sign of flight. There were also scratchmarks in the 2x4 that the shards of PVC pipe made
