Randy Rhoads will always be the best guitarist in Ozzy Osbournes Band which he could just play almost about everything. Zack Wylde was good but decided to go on his own which he felt was the right time for him.
Speak Of The Devil album was all Sabbath songs, right? I'm confused, this was a two night event then? So it was after R. Rhodes died then? I have never seen this footage, only heard the album with all the Sabbath songs. I always assumed that this was before R. Rhodes came into the pic bcuz Brad Gillis was there and all they played was sabbath tunes on the album version. Well, huh...that just schooled me a bit then. Guess I'm gonna have to google it.
Oh, and yes.. Ozzy was already using "auto-tune" for all his vocals. Look deep into Ozzy's eyes and you'll see the deep sadness he was covering up. He knew he had one of the best guitarists of all time and Randy and him were best of friends.. even though believe it or not Randy went on record and was already projecting leaving the band in the near future to do nothing but learn how to play more classical types of music. This was local news here in L.A. - we all were aware of it.
This video is from Irvine Meadows, CA. - just weeks after Randy died - it was still the second leg of the Diary Tour.. I WAS THERE - this was supposed to be filmed with Randy.. Ozzy publically vowed to continue the tour and it was leaked to all of us in L.A. on KMET FM this show was being videotaped - that's why we all got tickets. It was surreal watching Brad Gilles on stage - YES Brad's playing was great.. almost too good.. we were all still numb from Randy's passing.. as was the band.
@Sabbath417 I thought I would make a correction to your answer to Broken63Arrow
This particular show was not recorded at the Ritz in NYC, it was in fact recorded live at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in Irvine California in 1982
If you watch the end credits at the end of the video it says it right there \m/
Ozzy did the Randy Rhoads jams live on this tour but when it came down to doing the Live Speak Of The Devil album, he went with the Sabbath material instead.
@65GreenMan The reason he went with the Sabbath material instead was because he didn't want it to be in bad taste being that Randy had just passed a few months earlier.
Black Sabbath got upset over Ozzy covering their original material though since Sabbath had at the same time just released the Live Evil album.
Brad Gillis Fuckin' Rocks! He brought those Sabbath songs to another level. He tears it up. When I first heard this I was blown away. I did'nt know Brad could play like this. Simply awesome. One of my favorite live albums.
he did ozzy a favor as no one else was around to fill the void , jake was there literally in the wings ,he took over almost right after brad left 82-83.. then when jake left it all went down hill from there
stll a great show,but...while brad gillis is a good guitarist he can never compare to randy.but i'll at least give him the credit for having the balls to follow something as great and amazing as Randy Rhoads.
I caught some of the over dub's....pretty funny..With all so called live albums and dvd's...they record 2 or 3 night's then mix it all together..thats why you see wardrobe changes ect..sound is from night 1 and vidio is from night 3 diff city sometimes..thats almost all of them..only one I know is from 1 night is skynyrd, one more from the road..that was 1 night in 76...
look evryone dont get me wrong i was seriously into this shit when it came out but ozzy is singing the whole gig on playback ,just take the time to notice it ,i saw it from the first notes that he hit...total bullshit
@Sabbath417 i saw gillis at the ritz when they recorded the speak of tghe devil album doin all sabbath n he smoked.he no randy, but theres also no eddie, jimi, srv, page, etc. they each have there own.
Just for the kicks I did check out your "tribute band" talk about calling the kettle black. You have so much dirt on your guitar it sounds like MUD..!!!!! Your singer is lame at best. I will upload so video of MY BAND when I get around to it (as I know you will have a come back)
back to the show. Brad done a fine job.. I only heard a few times where he was off but it was "his style" and not Randy's stlye of music he was playing, plus as already said. Givin the amount of time Brad had for this gig.. I think/KNOW he done a fine job..!!
I didn't say a word about brads guitar sound (which is thin & awful) to me anyway. I commented on his hacking randy's parts here. If you want to say I hacked Randy's parts..you'd be hard pressed to find much ground there. Is what it is. I mean for fuck sake..did you listen to that whammy bar noodling shit he put in "Goodbye to Romance"? Also..I'd LOVE to see "your band" videos. Reality is..you wil NEVER post them here. Thanks for the joy.
@OzzBornTributeBand get over yourself -youve had years and years to process these songs-test yourself by learning the entire next album by ozzy in 2 weeks and playing it in front of your obviously adoring fans
@kb7010 check out walkerguitar -that guy i swear sounds like the real deal ..randy- and if our illustrious rockstar wannabe ever wants to be impressed by anything(other than himself)he should check it out also
WTF @ at the mercy of the sound man, are you for real? Dude the sound man can ONLY mix what you gave him as a single/sound. Why WOULD a sound man add "MUD" to your guitar tone? Never mind, I get it now, it was the same sound guy that made Brad G sound like shit (as per ONLY U) is the same guy that did your mix right? thanks for the laughs dude. Go back to pretending to be RR and Zack some more and I will just keep playing in clubs without trying to be somebody I am not
You were commenting on my guitar tone on the Live Television show & clearly by your comment you've never done a Tv gig. The sound is Absolutely altered in everyway, from studio sound to what the viewers hear. Do you know anything about Equalization? You can change ANY sound through basic mid, treble & bass adjustment. Tv..is a different beast than clubs. As you will here in any concert footage of me. The only place you play is in your moms basement..we both know that!
As for "pretending" to be anyone..I will continue to pay "tribute" to Randy Rhoads" inparticular & gladly keep his legacy alive by playing his parts as close to what he intended them to be played like & for as long as I live. I'll also continue touring around the country doing it. So you come see me when I'm near you & show your muscle then tough kid. Btw..when you're playing someone elses music that you did not write, you are "paying tribute" just like Brad is here. Dipshit.
@OzzBornTributeBand Brad Gillis is a supremely talented guitarist and of course he had his own style and it's not for everyone. Do you know how hard it was to do what he did? He replaced the greatest guitarist ever, which is impossible, and he actually did a good job learning all the songs. I mean, think of how many Yokels on YouTube have spent years trying to learn Randy and can't and he learned this shit in a really short amount of time.
@OzzBornTributeBand he did ozzy a favor as no one else was around to fill the void , jake was there literally in the wings ,he took over almost right after brad left 82-83.. then when jake left it all went down hill from there
