Man, you gotta get yourself a light hatchet. After using a fiskars a couple years back I ran out and bought one. Now I won't go into the bush without it.
@CRXluvr Where this vid was filmed is one my favorite places to visit. Probably more than any other I go to. There's just something that draws me there. Thanks for watching.
Me and My dad have been looking for spot like this, Where is it? I saw that you were wearing an Salt Lake Olympics hat so I figured you were around there.
A few tears ago end of April going through Colo. It was raining and I thought a little snow would be nice on the mnt. Before I knew it, I was in a snow storm 16 inches of snow. Never had to stop because of it. My friends in Utah laughed and said I wanted snow on the top of the mnts. I got my wish for the next 10 days. It added to the beauty.
@TigerRagFishingTeam Yes it is. Got it on a killer sale for under $20. Mine is just know starting to pill a bit. Not too bad, but had I paid the normal cost for it I don't think I would be too happy. However, for the price I got it, it has been a great shirt.
Bro this was actually the first video I seen of yours, I need to make a spot like this out here its just so hard to find a spot that you won't get busted at, would love to have a site like this.
@TNPviewer That sucks man. Out this way we have pretty much the run of the place (some areas are more regulated than others). This video was filmed in my favorite mountain ranges. Some of the trails you can get in on and won't see anybody for days. One day I'll be able to hit those trails...but right now I just can't spend that much time away from family.
Hey Crocket, do you use a bear canister to store your food when you're out there? I'm in the same area as wpoulin, Northern California Coast. Just want to know whether it's worth the weight and investment.
@cnthunder9 I don't. I just try to be careful around camp (keeping a clean camp). In all honesty, I have yet to see a bear in the wild. However, just a few weeks ago we had tracks about 1/4 mile from the tent.
@basszack Honestly that is a knife I've had laying around for years. I can't remember the brand. All in all, it hasn't handled the beating well. Recently upgraded to an RTAK II.
@Cr0cket20 I own the RTAKll also,it has been realy good so far.If you are thinking of upgrading your saw but don't want to put out the cash for a sawvivor check out the arkan-saw 3in 1 saw(wood, bone and hack). The go for around 15.00 with shipping on e-bay.
Thanks for the reply Crocket. You mean you go camping in the rain? LOL. Good point about the wood. There has been a few miserable rainy camping trips in my past. I think I'll invest in a camp saw. Any suggestions on what brand and type of saw to use?
@TheBeeperman I just use a cheap walmart brand someone gave me years ago. I have thought about upgrading to some type of folding saw. Another great one I've heard about is the Sawvivor. Never used it, but heard it's good.
Oh man! What a beautiful place! I've just got to get back to the mountains! Just curious. Ive been camping for 45+ years and I've never processed my firewood. I just collected whatever was near. Mostly branches up to maybe 4 inchs or so and a few larger pieces. Always had a very useful fire for cooking and comfort. Is there some advantage to sawing and splitting over just what you can find laying around? Thanks for taking the time to post these vids.
@TheBeeperman Great question. If I don't have to process, I generally won't use the energy. Most the wood up there on this trip was very damp. By processing and splitting one can get into the dry part of the wood thus making it easier to start a fire. Man 45+ years, I bet I could learn a boatload from you. Take care.
@robinh500 Thanks. My boss at work went out with a buddy. When they returned, their whole camp was torn apart (in Griz country). He did say though that whenever a bear saw them it would take off running. Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful man...thanks for sharing this with us. I did a lot of hiking and camping with my two boys...should say young men now. Not as much now that they're grown, but we still make it out some. Enjoy it with them when you start bringing them with you on these types of outings. Awesome memories...
The weekend after this I took up my oldest (a spot much closer in). I had a lot of fun. He did too. Got a little tired walking in and out, but he still talks about to this day. Caught his first fish on that trip. Thanks for the comment.
Yes. This trip I had my G23. I'll be the first to admit that it is not the most ideal caliber to deal with bear for example. I have a .357, but it is just too heavy and bulky. I do like the G23 too because it handles the elements well (as you can see will hit, even in the middle of summer). One of my Kimbers ended up rusting when I took it up one year. I'm tempted to make a vid on this very subject, not sure though.
well something is better than nothing I think. I've always carried something, even as small as a 9mm. You'll be suprised at how the noise alone scares off mountain lions and bears(without cubs). The Glock with its finish would fare very well in that climate. Thanks.
wow man, those were really good videos. I know your kids will love the trip there, how cool to beable to share you childhood experience with your kids.

Good stuff Crocket as usual. Is that a Spyder shirt? I've got one similar if it is. Good all around shirt but pilled up easily.

Great video.
I've just started doing some camping and backpacking alone.
Even though I camp in Mountain Lion territory (California Coast), I don't think I am prepared to face a place with bears.
I love the outdoors so much, I got tired of sitting and waiting for "friends" to go along with me.
Thanks for sharing the trip!
