@joa40 ..I was born in Krushen small small settlement and id say with American money 1,000 dollars you could live like a king for a month. Most people refor to farming to feed themselves, jobsare very scarce
OK, Eric. I'm hooked. I just finished watching the first and now I'll proceed promptly to the rest. Can't wait. I love how you show the things that I'd be looking for if I went to a foreign land. . . the roads, the plumbing, the houses, buildings, the land, etc. Great job. Now I'm off to watch the rest of your journey. Thanks for posting this and thanks for the detail.
i love all the details. i am considering taking a trip to belarus, as that is where my ancestors are from. i can't wait to watch the rest of the videos.
Fantastic video. Reminds me of some parts of Poland when I first came here in 1995, however, nowadays things are different and not much different than in the West, at least in the big cities.
I would prefer to keep control of my video's rather than let them be embedded elsewhere. You can always post a link to the video in your blog. Thank you very much for your interest. I presume from your profile and videos that you are from Minsk? It is a beautiful City, although I have only spent a little time there.
I find the old soviet bloc countries and anything to do with Chernobyl really fascinating. Though I'm sure there are places of great beauty, for the most part it's almost jarring how this bleak landscape is populated by such warm and friendly people. You'd never think, staring at the cold gray buildings that make up these sorts of cities, that such great people thrive within.
Thanks for the comment. I find that for the most part we are all the same and most people are truly good people. It does seem however that people who have very little are more willing to share what they have.
Thank you so much for your generous comment! I have since returned for a second trip this past April. I have posted still pictures and text in regards to this trip to my blog at ericmckenzie com (you will have to add the "dots"). I will be posting video in the near future. Also feel free to visit our organizations webpage at canadianaidforchernobyl com.
Interesting little bit of information -
Even though Belarus does even less to contain the zone than Ukraine, 70% of all the radiation from Chernobyl wound up in Belarus.

Hey, Chernobyl is in the Ukraine, not in Belarus?!!
Pfalzgreven 1 year ago
@Pfalzgreven - True, but a large portion of the radiation fell in Belarus which is where we are doing our work.

@ericmckenzie Aah, I see. I enjoy your vids very much,
I've always wanted to go to Ukraine and Belarus!

@ericmckenzie over 70%
BankZed 10 months ago
@Pfalzgreven I think it was approx. 70% of the overall radiation that went into Belarus. A large portion of the country is still contaminated.

Yes, most off the fall-out was in Belarus and 21 years later it is still causing tremendous problems. Both medically and economically.
