I have a feeling that Berganza's velvety, yet tangy, voice is much more the type of voice for which Bizet wrote the role than the usual overweighted, barking sound that we usually hear. I like the fact that she is very charming, but very demanding and insistent as well. What a voice! What an artist! I love her.

Desde que ví a Julia Migenes estoy convencidísima de que ella ES carmen. Sencillamente no existe otra igual para mí. Julia exhuda sensualidad y descaro. La prescencia en escena es lo más importante en cuanto se refiere a Carmen. Por más buena voz, si no se es capaz de representar ese juego de seducción, el personaje ya no resulta creible. Teresa tendrá muy linda voz su interpretación de Carmen es demasiado inocente.

Her singing is so beautiful. Her voice is not what one could call hugely powerful, but it sounds so youthful and dramatically accurate: she's truly seductive. However I cannot understand what the leg jerking is about and most important of all I find the comic elements they both use in their acting rather annoying. Still, a beautifully sung and acted scene.

Estoy de acuerdo con tu comentario. Berganza es una de mis mezzos preferidas, pero por ejemplo para Carmen, yo prefiero a María Ewing o Agnes Baltsa. Es muy arriesgado decir que una cantante es la mejor en su cuerda. Cada una tiene lo suyo, hay muchas muy buenas.

La seguidilla por Obraztsova y por la Bumbry con ese agudo cuando Carmen se libera de las ataduras me gusta mucho porque rompe un poco la monotonía del aria.

Pues es cuestion de gustos. A mi me gusta la Ewing en Carmen, que no es una voz tampoco dramática, pero para tiene una presencia y un fisico muy interesante para Carmen. La Bumbry me gusta su timbre, pero no su presencia para Carmen, y asi. Todas son grandes artistas. Un saludo desde Mexico.

Absolutely love Berganza. She is my favourite Carmen. Domingo is my favourite Don Jose. He is sooooooo sexy (sorry for the fangirl drool). I know this is from theatre nationale L´opera de Paris, but do you know if they travelled with this production? My mother saw Domingo in Carmen at Palacio de Bellas Artes this same year and I was wondering if Berganza was his Carmen then too.
