I saw the Goggomobil Coupe parked at the small Turkish hotel in Istanbul we used every weekend in the late 1950s...and it had German number plates - that had to be a long drive !
@granskare That was almost certain Peter and Marlotte Backhaus' Goggo !! Was it just as mine red with a white top? They made with the Goggo coupé and Glas Goggomobil Isar 700 a trip around the world between 1957 and 1962. There's a book and film about it. Google their names and find out! Cheers, Andre.
This was a little bit slower jaja, Fangio was the greatest driver ever in my opinion I admire him was incredible how he drove those old racers, thanks for the recomendation I will look for that book.
I used to run a lot of classic car events, is very fun to run slalom races with the Isetta!!, the car is all original and I made several long trips, the longest one was from Uruguay to Chile crossing the Andes range mountains, was a 2.500 kms trip without problems!
This reminds me of the great story of Fangio crossing the Andes in his 1940 Chevrolet Coupé during the "Gran Premio Internacional Del Norte." You can read this story and many more in "Fangio the Maestro", dossier Michel Vaillant by Graton Editeur.
Excelent cheers from Uruguay! I raced my Isetta several times against other cars in classic cars events but never got the chance to race against one with the same power, great and fun video!
That race was EPIC! I love Isettas <3 And the Goggo is adorable too.

@boboblocks No! the Isetta cheated...look closely! The Isetta starts 1 sec. before the Goggo! :))
HubAndre 1 year ago 2
@HubAndre The Isetta takes off on the flag, the Goggomobil driver is a little slow to react, that's all.

It seems that in the long run the Goggomobil has a higher top speed, but the acceleration is pretty much the same.
Great video!!
