I'm sorry but it is just not together as well as sounding like vomiting tubes of wet cardboard. .... or something like that. Poor players having to put up with this.
This can't be Karajan. The orchestra isn't even together a lot of the time; this doesn't sound like an orchestra that Karajan would ever conduct. It's not about the tempo either, this tempo can be very exciting if played properly. I'm surprised so many people are fooled.
@Napatalung: I had that thought too... it sounds like a very inferior recording, first off; and the whole style struck me as very un-Karajan. Compare this to the early-1970's disc of Symphonies 40 and 41 on Angel-EMI Records; the differences are immense. You may well be correct; however v. K did do some really weird Mozart performances in the 50's. Either way, I don't like #40 to start with and this is not a particularly good rendition of it.
@BeUrself0897 Rubbish. Mozart has that as a reputaion because of the way he has been played in the past. Neville Marriner is one of the fastest Mozart conductors and his performances have been applauded! Mozart is all about energy combined with precision. A study of the scores shows that tempi observances need not be strict, keep the energy level up and stay in time and you will turn out a great performance. I'm not a fan of Karajan but I like this a lot!

This has a kind of hungarian style, similar arithmatic pattern as berlioz's rakoczi indulo or brahm's hungarian dance 5. anyone care to agree?

This conductor is a fraud! The string are out of tune much of the time, tempi wrong and something for Disney's Fantasia. Pardon me while I vomit.

perhaps a little faster than Mozart intended, I would say. This is Allegro molto rather than the Allegro assai that the composer wrote. Good, though!

This interpretation is too fast, almost sloppy. Mozart is refined, dignified.

This is kinda random, but I think some of Wario Land II's music was influenced by this.
I noticed that while we were rehearsing this movement SLOWLY, haha.

All of Mozart's pieces reflect feeling and movement. My favourites from his 40th symphony are I, III and IV

Herbert rimarrà sempre ineguagliabile. Solo lui può rendere più bella la più bella sinfonia di Wolfy.
