  • hmm I would hire you but you probably don't wan to work with an indie team.

  • it don look like 3-4years old work =w=

  • This demo reel is a couple years old and def needs to be updated lol but in here I used 3ds Max, Maya and Vray

  • witch program was used?

  • Hello Andrew, I saw the other comment about getting into game design but I have a different question. I'm 17 and out of school for the summer. I get 3ds max for free through my robotics team at my school and I really want to do the Environments for games for a job when I get older. I am just wondering if you know of any website, books or videos that could help me learn 3ds max so that I can get started. I've been wanting to do this for years and I want to get started before its too late.

    Thanks

  • Hey there,

To do 3D art you need a 3D program to first create the 3D objects for your environment. The 2 main programs to do this are Autodesk 3DS Max and Autodesk Maya. Some game / Animation studios only use one or the other and some use both, so it would be worth your while to learn both programs but once you know one of them the other is basically the same. Other programs used are: Photoshop, Zbrush, Mudbox, XNormal & game engines like Unreal (you can download the UDK for free to use it).

  • Hey, I'm 16 and wanting to get into video game design when I'm older. Not 100% sure what specifically I want to do, something related to art / design would be fine. Being an environmental artist looks interesting.

Anyways, what software would you recommend I try / get familiar with? I'm sort-of familiar with Photoshop, moreso with GIMP though. I think I could draw textures on my own just fine, but for actually making the 3D environment, I don't know what to use

  • A little dvice for me would be to do what you enjoy doing and what you are really talented at will show up as you are in school. I went to the Art Institute to be an animator and realized I was better at Environmental modeling so that's what I really started to study and work towards. It is also always good to be able to do concepts if you are an environmental artists so I wouldn't just give one of those up for the other :) Also get familiar with mudbox or Zbrush. Hope that makes sense :)

  • very cool man.. Congrats on your work as well. I'm at a 2 year college in NC trying to get a degree in game development. I want to be an environmental artist as well. I'm having a hard time deciding where I want to start.. I was thinking concept artist as well because I'm pretty good with photoshop and I like to draw.

  • what college did you go to?

  • @ABL36 I attended The Art Institute of California in Los Angeles :)

  • Hi there, I am working in the industry but I never submitted my demo reel for a job, I only submitted my website that shows my portfolio which is what was required. I currently work in the video game industry but I know if your lookin for a job in the Animation Industry they will more than likely require a demo reel other than a flatbook or stills of your work. Hope that answered your question :)

  • may i ask if your currently working in the industry? were you able to get a job with the demo reel?

  • Thanks for the comments. You are absolutely correct. These scenes / assets on this video were made for animation and still images, they would def need low poly models made to work in a game. I should update this video as it is pretty old but when I do it will have all game res models on it. Thanks again for the comments!

  • Very nice work. :d Based on the geometry of the scenes, these were mostly made for animation more so than gaming correct? The first 2 would work nicely in a game setting though.

  • Beautiful work... especially love the first two environments!

  • Thank you for the comments, I really appreciate it.

  • 5/5 and added to favs... good work man... I love it

  • The song is actually from a group called Retrograde, the song is called Letting go and the album is called This Frequency We Share.
