JD Roberts as he used to be known was a VJ in Toronto and was a Toronto Icon at one time before he sold his soul to those Damn Americans. We Cannot stand him any more up here and he can stay there. He'd get egged up here if he showed his face in Toronto. Rush is a Toronto band and has been on much music a million times.
I MISS JD. ROBERTS WITH JEANNE BECKER DOING THE NEW MUSIC BACK IN THE DAY!!!! WITH 2112 AS THE THEME OF THE SHOW!!! RUSH ARE THE STAR TREK OF ROCK'N ROLL!!!!! ARE THE FANS RUSHIES OR RUSHERS?!!! HA!!!!
@shoeflor fortunately, they are human! and what gifted human being´s, alex, geddy and neil are! creating brilliant music, for us fan´s to enjoy, for over 35 years..Rush=longevity!
John Roberts started out as 'JD Roberts', one of the original co-hosts of 'The New Music', a show that started in 1979 on CityTV in Toronto that predated MTV let alone MuchMusic. The New Music showcased the music scene in Toronto, and Canada at large. The original opening theme for The New Music was the opening bars of Overture from 2112 and Rush was interviewed numerous times. They have history indeed.
You can plainly see that Neil is still hurting from "the dark years". I wouldn't have touched that at all. I wish I could put my arms around him at that point.I couldn't imagine going through what he did...What a man!
@lastdaysguitar Alex has been playing that song for years, and more than likely wrote the entire guitar part himself. John is essentially playing a cover... which he may have learned from a 3rd party tab site.... I think he did damn good, all things considered :)
Neil's tragedy should be a “don't go there” topic. Any question relating to that time in Neil’s life should never have been approved. Which leads me to believe it was most likely a staffer that approved the questions.
the thing about playing a rush tune is that if you choose a fucking difficult song, it may piss you off. but then when you learn it its freakin easy. that was my eperience learning limelight
Why is he an ass for asking "Forbidden Questions" ( jeez, whatever...) ? Obviously, Neil was ready to talk about it to some extent and not others but that doesn't make John a bad interviewer. He asks what everyone wonders about and was classy enough to shift directions when asked to. Some of you over react a bit...a lot. Seriously, "i wonder if Neil came up to him and shook his hand like Alex did." Really??? Why wouldn't he? He's not that petty of a person.
There wasn't one question of the interview that was not pre-approved before they went to camera. Neil might have changed his mind about the questions, at which time Roberts took an empathetic approach and changed the subject rather than a journalistic approach and pressing. And John Roberts was a host of Much Music in Toronto back in the 80's.
These guys must be old friends of John Roberts, because they still let him jam even though he asked the forbidden questions during the interview. Personally, I think RUSH are very forgiving guys.
John Roberts you lucky bastard. I'd give all my material possesions to jam with RUSH. Except my Fender Jazz bass.

John's crescendo strum = 10 mph and lumpy.
Alex's crescendo strum = 100 mph and smooth power.
