Well yeah if he pays it back in a week, in practice the way it would work is he would pay $500 a week in interest until he could pay back the entire $20,000. Generally, from what I've read, loansharks won't take back a certain percentage of the principal (i.e. the $20,000) so you have to wait until you have got the entire amount and then pay it off.
