  • rules of original Roller Derby (1970); pack never stops, jams 1 minute, jammers start from rear of pack. I love today's game, but miss the continuous motion and action. this is at Oakland (Oracle) Arena, before 14,000 fans. .

  • This video is from a game at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, I'm almost certain of it. Back in the day, Roller Derby drew huge sellout crowds at the Coliseum and San Francisco Cow Palace.

    Thank you for posting!

  • the OSDA is skating co-ed flat track and banked track derby.

  • For a couple of glorious years, the Bombers, Pioneers and Chiefs all played home games in the Bay Area, Chicago and the Midwest and New York and the NE respectively. I believe in 1971-1972, the Jolters were also a home team with a base in Cincinnati with Cliff Butler and Ann Calvello leading their team. I wish some of those games were still available

  • Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't this footage from the '68 Championship Finals between the Bombers and Cards?

  • Yes.

  • As much as I would love to see the return it just doesn't seem feasible. They keep trying to turn it into something that it isn't. One of the things that propelled the original was the true love of the game. Calvello and so many others kept skating because they loved it.

  • Roller derby has been reinvented and is alive and well among women all over the States. Womens' Flat Track Roller Derby is a very organized and awesome sport.

  • Do you know of any co-ed or all male leagues, or is everything all female? I think USA Roller Sports is in charge of this sport right now altogether.

  • The only co-ed banked track promotions active recently are the American Roller Skating Derby in SF and Roller Games International in LA. Visit their websites for further 411.

  • RGI seems to have fallen apart with the latest Griffiths lawsuit and Bob Sedillo's death.

Worked co-ed derby still exists in the Bay Area with ARSD, and NRDA held a game last Fall in Las Vegas.

  • There are 32 leagues and teams with men around the world skating legit derby, mostly in the U.S. Co-ed leagues tend to be found more often on the East Coast, as the Men's Derby Coalition and OSDA are based there. There are some large men's leagues in other areas, such as the Twin Cities area of MN and Dallas. Another major men's league is in Tacoma, WA. A Google search on Roller Derby Worldwide will help you find the nearest men's league to your area.

  • @PoobahSCRG as if today, there are a total of 1046 leagues around the world skating Roller Derby. all amateur, all legit.

  • did the San Francisco Bombers ever play the Oakland Bombers? Also was the Bomber teams and the Cardinal team considered the good ( BabyFace) teams while the Northeast Braves and Midwest Pioneers considered the Bad (Heel) Teams?

  • They were one and the same. The Oakland Bombers were merely a touring version of the team. The San Francisco Bay Area Bombers' "season" lasted from April through October throughout NoCal. Then they went on the road. Popular enough for two touring units--S.F. and Oakland.

  • They visited all 120 cities or so that were on the syndicated network. Not until they attempted to make the IRDL a real national league did any other team than the Bombers have a home territory. The Pioneers actually had a huge following.

  • The Cardinals never skated as a home team in the Northwest, which they were named. I've been told by a RD historian that because the Northeast Braves of '68/'69 were led by the greats Ronnie Robinson and Bob Woodberry, both black, that they were often treated as the favored team in cities where there was a greater number of black fans.

  • Actually, the Pioneers, Cards, and Braves did skate a rare home game or two in their areas during the 60's road tours, but by the end of the decade, Jerry Seltzer would have Bombers V. Braves or Cards in the Midwest, Bombers V. Pioneers or Cards in the Northeast, Bombers V. Braves or Pioneers in the Northwest, while the rest of the tour was usually Bombers V. Braves or Pioneers. Back then I was a Pioneers fan.

  • thanks for uploading this.

  • Thank you for posting for I was a rookie with the LA-T-Birds and recall all these great skaters. Roller Derby was such joy to watch aswell.

  • I actaully miss Roller Games, as sports entertainment it was far superior to pro wrestling and what we see on TV as wrestling isnt worth watching

  • RollerGames does indeed beat wrestling. I just wan't sure if it was staged or not in the case of "Mizz" Georgia Haze trying to ban Ralphie and the T-Bird twins (the story's in the All-star game, 4th period, posted here on YouTube).

  • @LeothePatrioticLion this is not Roller Games but Roller Derby, a huge difference.

  • Yay 4 Roller Derby!

  • What great memories, The roller Derby will always hold a very special memory for me,I remember Ronnie Robinson,Jonie Weston, And so many more as my parents would drive me to Memphis to watch the Roller Derby.

ThankYou for this, What A Great Memory !!!

  • Thank-you for posting this. God bless the derby!
