She is spot-on with her advice, except you probably need 6,000 Cal. of food/day & your (normal) hiker can't carry that wt.; 2#food/day can be sched if planned well=4-5,000 Cal. Psych effect of food deficit:body will "say" to brain,"Get back to the FOOD=civilization, NOW !!!" Bad decision-making can result. ALWAYS have that extra day's worth of food;you may not hike as far/fast as you planned&that food will be needed! LOOK at "extra" items&keep total pack wt at 25#& you should be ok.
@Nightmeare Any person who doesn't prep for hiking a long trail ( or even a shorter one) can expect to be overwhelmed at the phys effort needed. Start prep a month or two ahead of hike, walking every other day, progressively incr mileage&wt carried. GOAL to be able to comfortably carry 25# over an 8 hr total ea day for 2 successive days. This will give your body an idea of difficulty. TRY not to dump food, please..it attracts BEARS to HIKER FOOD & thus to HIKERS. Thanks
Planning more food than you'll need isn't good advice. Food is heavy and unless you want to heft around a heavy pack, just consume less and focus on energy foods. The body can go a LONG LONG time without eating, and going without food for a day or even a week isn't going to hurt you. Any ill effects you feel from it are psychological.
Simple fact: People consume way more food than they need and think they need.
Pack food light, eat light, be smarter than your stomach.
fag? Why am I a British cigarret? Actually for your information I am an earthen mound that holds back water. And it's funny, if u think "chicks are pussies" (which in ur eyes is a negative thing apparently) and u called me a fag (or made reference to me being a homosexual) and it takes one to know one... hmm...oh "high five" brother!
Lmao, I only had to hear the 1st 5 seconds and I just KNEW it was expert village lol
