It's too bad they cut the end of this scene. When the dance ends, either Louis Jourdan or Maurice Chevalier (can't remember) turns to the prudish old biddy who had led the crusade AGAINST the Can-Can... and he asks her, "Do you still want to ban it?" and she replies, "BAN it?! I want to LEARN it!"
I saw Can-Can in the theater in 1960. It was in "Todd-AO," as were other big films of the late 1950s-early 1960s. Todd-AO was "an extremely high definition widescreen film format developed in the mid 1950s" (Wikipedia). One of the big downtown theaters did a complete remodel and bought a wide, curved screen fo accommodate these lavish productions, such as Ben-Hur. Tickets -- 50 cents at other theaters--were $1.65. Shirley MacLaine is INSPIRED as an actor & Dancer. Now I want to read her books.
Those gals can can-can! Fun fact: Nikita Khrushchev was there that day they filmed this scene.

Juliet Prowse was so talented and one of the nicest people Hollywood and the world of dancing ever had. She was an angel.

@kevinvanmeter Yes, Juliet was a great dancer and actress. She passed away too young. Juliet and Shirley both were great in this movie.
