Not every opener has a switch on the rail for the open/close limits liftmaster chamberlain craftsman and accessmaster have it built in to the motor unit.
Two to three months is a little overkill. Once a year is plenty. I am a thirty year Door tech

This guy doesn't know much. Learn more by reading the owners manual for your unit. Wd-40 is also not a good lubricant.
