Watching this clip I see Lorne Greene rubbing his thighs more than once. Someone suggested it was because he hit his leg instead of the little girl when he spanked her, but, I've noticed in other epis that he rubbed his thighs once in a while. I do the same thing when my knees hurt or my legs are aching. I didn't know I was doing it until someone asked me what was wrong. Perhaps LG had pain and the rubbing was an involuntary respose to it? Possible.
@khappell2 I noticed that in this episode and thought maybe as he spanked her he caught his own leg as well but I think it's possible too that what you said was right and he just got 'achey' legs now and then. :)
I love this episode.... Ben is perfect : sweet, tender, patient, firm when too much is too much... I love him....A big example of fatherhood.. The scene near the lake is soooo touching...
@74mumu I couldn't agree more. Just to watch that big hand hold Sam's tiny fingers so gently...I get tears in my eyes for exactly that kind of love I never had. I've spent a lot of years imagining Ben as my own father. I wonder if he ever knew what an impact he had on so many fatherless girls and boys? If Lorne Greene's family ever reads these comments, I'd like to say: Thank you for sharing him with us. We still love him, and miss him very much.
@jehukjehe I saw a clip of an interview with Lorne greene a while ago and in it there was a question about fanmail and he talked about girls writing to him as a father figure and what he thought about those letters.
@Jess80gam Hey! Where did you see the interview? Is it on the net? I sure would love to see it! I spent many sleepless nights in the home of an abusive father wishing Lorne Greene had been mine. sigh...

What a teriffic episode! It really highlights the father Ben would have been to his boys when they were young. It`s also good to know that he loved little girls too and that they didn`t really pose much of a threat to his masculinity, nor his role as a father. He treated the girls and the boys equally - they all got spanked when they needed it!! LOL Thank you so much for this!!
