Norma's work in this one goes too underrated, mostly due to the harder, flashier parts Russell & Crawford play. But, because there's no men in the movie, Shearer only has a few phone scenes and conversations with her daughter and mother to convince us how much she loves the husband we don't see. And that she does. Norma herself thought the part of Mary Haines rather bland, but with superb restraint and underplaying when necessary Norma makes Mary very real.
It looked trashy...that's exactly what I figured....and I'm no prude but there is no need sometimes..actually MOST times but Hollywood still feels they need to "push the envelope at times!" Have a wnderful 4th of July.... : )

Great film....the remake is most likely crapola! They ought to be ashamed of themselves for making a remake of this gem!
