Doom 3 from 2004 was way ahead of it's time. I didn't like this game at first. But later and now I realised that it's still a killer FPS game dark, scary, bloody, intense, violent, eerie, and still impressive graphics and sound.
I wanted that, for Doom 3 to be scary. Doom has always had the horror atmosphere, it just never put it to actual use. Doom 3 did put it to use, and did it greatly, I might add.

But yet from what I've seen the graphics(not that I care much about those) are beautiful, the levels aren't as linear as all these generic war shooters that come out and the game looks like it's much harder and has a more interesting story too.

The music was great and I totally agree about the fear factor. I just felt with a game so different from the others in terms of enemy numbers, you needed to be able to cut loose on the guns a bit more, and you'd definitely have a light mounted on them in a place like that anyways. They revised that on a extension pack so I heard lol

Genesis/Megadrive 6 button was the best ever all-round controller I think. The button layout was perfect for beat em ups & just about everything else. Had a proper d-pad, not a Nintendo/Modern Console Skin Shredder Dpad (TM) lol. Dual Shock 2/3 are too fragile I think - rip off city! DS1 was ok imo.

even after all these years doom 3 looks like one of the best fps games, both story and graphics!!! The first time I fought against a pinky demon, I got a headache because I was so scared!
Doom 3 was the scariest game I've ever played, I remember playing it on my old shitty PC, and the first time that guy turned into a demon and attacks you, I had it on pause and was so scared to turn it back on. I was pretty young then, but I recently reinstalled doom on my new PC, and I'm still on that level of scaredness, I hate when all the lights suddenly go out and you can hear the zombies moaning... it's even scarier with headphones and on an HD resolution! Doom 3 ftw!

But it's so much cooler to play on a alienware laptop than on a console ;), but i just can't. Btw you sure know alot about the gaming stuff. the only controller I can remember of the old day's was the super nintendo one, playing killer instict, man time sure goes fast:(. and you right the dualshock is crap, my O button is screwed. maybe an xbox nxt time

Yeah I've not really got into this latest gen of consoles but prior to that, always been heavily into them...Not strategy/stealth games so much tho..they tend to bore me lol!..I mean, it's great to be able to do it..but really, who can be assed with Splinter Cell etc - not me haha! Time does seem to be goin quicker each yr now u mention it :o. Went thru 4 (!) Dual Shock 2's...DS1 is still fine lol!!

@johnjnukemsheridan haha there goes nr 4, you gotta love the DS1, that thing is for real. like the old school consoles. The ps1, nintendo 64, no upgrading jip, unlike the ps3. All the errors and hacking problems. The more next gen it is the more it's beginning to look like a pc. Splinter Cell LOL haha. Man that game sucked, but metal gear solid was a boss tho;), damn I played it so much that something went wrong with the CD 3, after a while there was no ending anymore, it just froze xD

Modern consoles have too many moving parts..you increase the amount of moving parts, you increase the possibility of faults I say! I want everything on data crystal and I want it like that now lmao!! xD Yeah, do prefer MGS though not played it as much as you by sound of it - u sound pro with it! I get impatient with any strategy games lol always been like that xD

Even me, testing your skillz and all, before you know it you are playing 24/7 ;P. story's are still strong these days, but if you really wanna impress, you gotta come with someting insane. mgs is like a da vinci these daysxD.i'm not that good anymore tho^^

Should just count as your broadband imo...after all, you already bought the game & they're promoting their games/consoles - that's just good business. Seems most people are happy to get ripped off these days though, sadly! If we pay them they will continue to charge the fee is my motto (not a tight wad btw haha) XD

I really don't understand why microsoft is charging people with the online mode. they can beat sony I think, maybe not right away but on a longer run. but on the other hand if you have to pay for online it's gotta be more fun thaN the free one, doesn't have to but the chances are bigger. Doom 3 was the scariest game I've ever played, I remember playing it on my old shitty PC, and the first time that guy turned into a demon and attacks you, I had it on pause and was so scared to turn it back on. I was pretty young then, but I recently reinstalled doom on my new PC, and I'm still on that level of scaredness, I hate when all the lights suddenly go out and you can hear the zombies moaning... it's even scarier with headphones and on an HD resolution! Doom 3 ftw!

I still think they should have stuck to the frantic, over the top shooter formula the first two games had. Epic music, fast paced action, awesome weapons and that awesome little face at the bottom of your screen lol.
