  • Just shoot the driver!

  • Set phasers to pwn?

  • World's fastest sun tan

  • So it singes a truck hood after about 10 seconds, and this is supposed to be an anti armor weapon?

  • @AIgernon

Actually yes. This laser is perfectly capable of producing varying power levels depending on the target and range.

  • It didnt really do that much damage, its not like it cut through the engine block or anything...

  • But will it blen....OH JUST STFU!

  • Dear santa....

  • This is a laser system coming from an aircraft with a 20 ton payload. Imagine if you scaled it up tenfold, to 200 tons! The increase in power would be enormous. Of course, only two aircraft in the world can carry that much weight, the An-225 "Dream" and the SkyCat-200 airship. Of course, with 275 tons and 200 tons of lift, respectively, you probably could do more damage carrying other things.

  • @Jjames763

Like the description says it is a scaled down version, of the Airborne Laser.

  • img26.imageshack.us/img26/6290/soldierpic1.png (add the h tt and p in front :D

    and everyone is save

  • I heard about this on drunk tank. They said that the airborne tech that is causing this is also going 500mph and is shifting its trajectory as it goes. That is scary as fuck

  • /watch?v=Gz4LU6EU8iA funny

  • Chemical Oxygen Iodine laser still wins.

  • THAT! is why you don't have a staring contest with Chuck Norris

  • Wow ... that truck really got pwned. It totally needs a new hood now.

  • looks... weak

  • What the fuck happen if we use a sturdy mirror to reflect fucking Laser back to them ?

  • Not impressed boeing...not impressed...

  • @TheGamerHQ100 derp

    that's the fucking plan

  • what if it hits a person?

  • How much power does a laser like this need for 1/3 Second?

  • TLS-Tactical laser system

from ace combat 5 - real as you and i.....

  • bond: "do you expect me to talk?"

goldfinger: "No Mr bond, I expect you to die!!"

  • This is the most expensive paint remover I've ever seen!

  • the terrorists laugh at this

  • Terrorist driving in a truck

    What the fuck was that!!!!!

    *BOOM!!*

    Lol.

  • sweet

  • this is way way old tech. There is 1980 footage of USAF shooting a plane down with a laser at a test sight.

  • @TheyDidThis post the vid then

  • @thehacksrule enjoy watch?v=ZFmhuPPwwls

  • This could easily light infantry on fire.

They want to put this on CAS craft, which would be perfect.

Not only would shots hit the target instantly, creating ease for strafing runs, this would reduce the risk of being shot down as you dive.

I remember the THEL in the 90's, it was all logic and theory, Now the MTHEL is just one of many Defensive laser weapons to be produced.

With Sarco power armor and the Rail gun, nothing is getting through us in one piece.

  • I'd hate to be on the business end of that laser! good god!

  • termide or laser,,,,EM? you decide.....!!?

  • so THATS what happened to my truck

  • good for killing people but not cars :-)

  • Also. To everyone complaining about not seeing the beam, no amount of dust particles will make the beam visible to the naked eye. Coil lasers output infared light. Ergo they are invisible.

  • Yep... the deathbeam has finally appeared... (don't piss off the government or they'll burn your house down)

  • Are you sure Billy Bob didn't just close the hood of his Blazer on a battery from Wally Mart that was a tad too tall?

  • It isn't the movies. Real life lasers don't go, "PEW PEW BOOM!"

  • This is THE worst put together test video EVER! How can anyone get the sense that this was truly done by a moving C-130 thousands of feet above!? Why not have dust particles or smoke in the air? Show the targeting system side-by-side aiming at the hood, etc.

    Production = FAIL

  • @woodycoat all you would see is an aircraft flying overhead. You can see the beam unless am infrared camera i used. I think showing how accurate the system is gets the point across.

  • Impressive and very interesting :D

  • Believe it or not, Sea Shephard people were using lasers as weapons against Japanese whaling vessels by beaming the harpoon gunners in the eyes. Crude, but effective.

Laser weapons are here to stay, no matter what you hear.

  • Laaaaaaaaaammmmmeeeee! I want colored lasers that go PHEW! PHEW! I want it to be like starwars! or, or like startrek!

  • @davew8572 lasers aren't visible unless they're shining right in your eyes, or if there's fog or dust in the air to reflect off of.

  • @jigglesnap yup, i second that.

  • @davew8572 only if there are particles in the lasers way even then the particle ill be burnt up so they won't be seen for long

  • cant wait till they use this in the US military.

  • @davew8572 at night it would be

  • @aragon2235 no, the beam itself is invisible unless it is passing through particles in the air like smoke or dust. The light would need to be partially reflected off something for you to see it... Unless you were the target of course by which time it wouldn't matter :)

  • @DJCentrix303 your point is correct but the night illuminates the beam because it has no interfering light source (the sun) to compete with and thus making it "more visible" at night but yes again your correct it wouldn't be possible with-out those little helper dust particles :) and yep you could also see it if you were staring into it (which by then it would be to late anyways XD)

  • looks like gunpowder to me, daugh

  • gears of war, "hammer of dawn"

  • yay! raygun!

  • ...must have the wrong size air filter.

  • you should directli aim an tank driver :) or munition

  • I think they should add sub woofers that play sci-fi laser sounds from 50s movies.

    BEW WHEW WHEW WHEW!!!!!!!!!

  • Interesting how you cant see the laser beam IN THE SMOKE... LAFF

  • It's probably just a laser that creates a beam that is not in the visible light spectrum.

  • The beam isn't in the visible light spectrum

  • what would happen if someone overclocked it?

  • @rivengle you would need to have a good cooling method, water cooling :)

  • when i read about this a year ago i thought it would be like a spartan laser in halo something alot more epic

it looks like some one poored a littel bit of gas on it and set it on fire

  • I hope the had the power turned way down on that demo video. It's definitely a damaging beam, and effective enough tracking/guidance, but that's not the kind of overwhelming force needed to cut that car in half!

  • technology is still far far away from being able to cut a car in half with a laser. but imagine that type of precision on a human target? it would probably be non lethal due to the person moving away very quickly. or maybe on a tire? i personally thing a shell from a spooky would do the trick much faster but you never know what they are cooking up next

  • @chilly444 Good way to blow up fuel tanks without any obvious involvement?

  • @chromal This is a mini version of one of the different military lasers being developed in the U.S., there are much bigger, much more powerful ones as well. There are existing lasers that can destroy missiles, planes, and artillery rounds in flight. They just take a lot of power...

  • BURN THAT FORD!

  • Shifty laser WTF that shit right there is enough to shoot down a jet

  • So it punches a hole with 10% of the energy, and then the rest of the energy goes through the hole and out the other side.

  • Shitty laser, i thought it was gonna blow up the thing or at least burn it whole.

  • That'd be a choice anti-personnel weapon. Take out enemy fighters one at a time, with zero collateral damage.

  • We build a laser, they build a mirror. We build a bigger laser, they still have a mirror... oh wait.

  • This isn't your standard laser pointer.

Mirror? Not even the best mirrors in the world reflect enough of this things energy for the material of the mirror not melt. This turns what its focused on into plasma.

  • Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The power to destroy a white van is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

  • Fuck! Today, it's a fact that USA got the most advanced weapons in the world! The next weapon they will develope would be plasma guns.

  • Well technically the US doesnt have the most advanced weapons, they're in the possesion of private corporations contracted by the US (including Israli, German and British Corp.) If these private organisations decided to cause some trouble bad things would happen. As for a plasma gun, it depends on what kind, Plasma slugs are kind of redundant as the effective range is minimal (cooling being too rapid),

  • plasma beams are essentially a tesla coil, reduced effectiveness over range, lack of target descrimination/ simple point and click firing and innefectiveness against any armoured unit due to the faraday cage effect. Anyway this laser produces plasma where it fires on the target.

  • Dude....stop talking shit -___- maybe some kiddies on utube MIGHT think you know what you are talking about.

Plasma beams....omfg. They CAN shoot a ball of plasma...actually its a ring, but it wont even left a black stain on a white shirt cause IT HAS NO MASS and its lifetime is ONLY 1.9 seconds.

  • plasma has ALMOST no mass, any device that generates "lightning" (e.g. a tesla-coil) is generating plasma, and that can kill a man, as for the "stain" it leaves that depends on the range, and in fact what i said was any weapon that fires slugs of plasma (be that ball or ring) wont work because its lifetime is too short. Before you start talking shit maybe you should check your facts, learn to read and only talk shit about stuff thats simple enough for your simple brain.

  • I take back that last bit, have just checked out your video on your home-made laser weapon and clearly you have a fair understanding, interestingly you keep insisting that the future is in particle weapons not lasers, and yet particle weapons have not advanced while lasers have. There was a project that used a combination of lasers and electron firing (a taser without cables) but i dont think it went very far. On the other hand before you accuse someone of talking shit, get up to date.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about...thinkin of Tesla Coils as plasma beam weapons...dude youre stupid -__-

The plasma doesnt kill a man...THE CURRENT does....

  • Tesla coils produce an arc of plasma between the coil and the point of impact, I never said the plasma killed the man directly, however it is the connection that leads to death. Maybe you should try to do a little less trolling and a little more reading before you comment. Twice you've tried to correct me and twice you've been wrong. Maybe you should check the definition of plasma weapon and stop judging people when YOU dont have a clue what your talking about, or even better, try and learn.

  • Maybe YOU should check MY vids. Tesla Coils have nothing to do with plasma weapons....actually there are no plasma weapons YET. Youre an interested newbie and thats it...smart ass...like 10000 others on utube. I bet my right testicle you NEVER made anything considerable as a "future weapon".

  • Well lets see, I have checked your videos as i said 2 videos ago, Tesla Coils (and this is for the fourth time) produce plasma, learn what it is before you raise that subject again, and as you stated in your first post, yes there are plasma weapons, they just arent that effective and are still very early in developement (wow youve made it from correcting me and getting it wrong to correcting yourself and getting it wrong). I freely admit Im an amateur

  • Im a neuroscientist not a physisist by profession and maybe I am a bit of a smart arse, but its better than being a dumb ass who tries to pretend hes anything. As for developing anything that may be considered a "future weapon" I merely consult, I am a purely theoretical scientist after all, but thank you for making that comment, I hvent laughed so hard in a while, its truly precious that you call your toy guns "future weapons"

  • @iguessiwatchthisshit

You cant consider those stuff weapons. The only REAL plasma-weapon is a non-leathal laser system CREATING a plasma on impact. I now what I am talking about...and the plasma tesla coils produce has NOTHING to do with weapons...

  • Of course they are weapons, there are designs for them in developement for battlefield usable varients (just check DefenseTech) and they have a huge place in science fiction (e.g. the Red Alert universe) and if they still dont count in your view as weapons, then by the same logic nor do plasma weapons, particle weapons or lasers all of which fit into the same category

  • The effect is not as wanted...thats why they cant be considered as weapons YET!

Maybe you should check some more stuff out....electro laser for example. The PEP...thats the thing youre talking about (a least I think so) needs some research...but still interesting...

  • "The effect is not as wanted"? regardless, unless you conceed that the weapons systems I listed previously are not weapons, the definition of the word in no way requires them to be existing working models, concepts are plenty, you seem convinced (in your other comments) that particle weapons are the future yet "The effect is not as wanted", in fact I cant be bothered to repeat htis futher, please re-read my previous post, ive covered this.

  • I say particle-weapons ARE the future...but no plasma weapons...maybe railguns...but not lasers. Particle beam weapons like medusa....you know shit...thats what I meant. All they have is a bag full of concepts...no WEAPONS.....

  • Fair enough, I think we're just arguing semantics now, I consider even theoretical systems to be weapons, while you only consider it to be a weapon if its functional and deployable. In which case by your definition I agree, all the technologies you listed are not weapons, yet = )

  • Win xD

You wouldnt consider a PHASER as a weapon would you? Or a Tachyon Beam....right? Know what I mean...just wanted to make clear I now my shit and there is alot of stuff to come, but far away from being considered as a weapon. Wouldnt even consider a Railgun as a weapon YET to be honest....^^

  • Of course I consider them weapons, I also consider them science fiction, and in those two instances un-sound science, a railgun has an effective firing model, its as much a weapon as a laser is. We dont actually know how far through a tesla coil is in the development stages, but as it is it can be used as a booby trap and it can do harm. But that is my use of the word weapon, and yeah fair enough you know your shit, but i think ive shown that I know mine too and im certainly not talking shit

  • So a car is a weapon as well....and a nail-gun.

Tesla Coils -____- you should search for the stuff I tell you: Electrolaser or laser guided energy.. The next thing I wanna read from you after you checked this out is: Fuck Tesla Coils

  • As for the PEP, no its not the system Im talking about I would provide a name, but all of them are still in early developement or testing and public information is limited, one was produced by Ionotron and annother featured in New Scientist, both use electrical arcs to fire on targets (one is aweapon for crowd control, the other is a "lightning gun") as for the electro laser, i refrenced it loosely in my 3rd post, again I find myself saying read more carefully before commenting

  • @AnselmoFanZero To be fair. You do *now* what you're talking about

  • ???

  • @metalpounder ...and yet they're being defeated by people on camels.

  • @jigglesnap Can't say that they are loosing. If so, USA would have to pull back.

  • Impressive aim, but unimpressive damage.

  • Give it a couple of years and USA will have a laser circling around the earth. :D

  • I don't doubt they already do...

  • This is 20Kw. The ABL (still fairly weak) is 1Mw (possibly more, they're fairly hush-hush about it)

so 50 times that damage. More than enough to void the insurance on that truck :P

  • What makes you think damage is directly proportional to power?

  • overheating is one of the biggest problems on lasers being more powerful

  • @jigglesnap try putting your fricken hand in front of that and then try to convince me that the damage isn't good you tard. i hear that it was shooting from around 150 miles away. probably will replace snipers

  • @c0ldsteal19 So instead of blowing a hole through someone with a sniper rifle, you're going to give them a bad sunburn that they can jump up and run away from?

  • @jigglesnap nope, just use a military grade incinerating laser(like that but with a little bit more juice) and vaporize the target. its mess free =D...lol

  • @jigglesnap you wouldnt be saying that if it was on your forehead

  • @jigglesnap the damage is enough to stop any missile in seconds.

  • @jigglesnap if it can melt metal its enough to take out a terrorist

  • @Phlatpop Bullshit. It'll give them a nice burn, but they're moving targets, especially when they notice they're on fire. Missiles with explosive warheads work much better.

  • @jigglesnap Tried roasting a pig with one of those?

  • @Pwntzyou Now there's something this laser might actually be useful for.

  • @jigglesnap It's just for shooting down air planes, mortars shells and missiles. So it just have to heat up the target a little bit :D

  • @jigglesnap

As with all new tech, it's future lies in, well, the future. Think of firearms 100 years ago and how much they've advanced.

For now though bigger is better

"The ATL is ... a scaled-down version of the megawatt-class high-energy laser in the Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL)"

I'm guessing the ABL will do significantly more damage than this.

  • @jigglesnap

Baby steps. Every new development helps.

  • @jigglesnap It would make for really low collatteral damage, but massive enemy damage. PUT THAT THERE SHIT ON JIHADS FACE MUUHAHAHAHAHA!

  • go hug a tree u dirty hippy

  • What a loser

  • fuck :)

  • fake :)

  • you know, we say US is one of the most advanced countries in the world but in our everyday lives we rarely experience these hi-techs developed by government backed institutions (Nasa etc.), what we enjoy are mostly imports Sony, Nintendo, Nissan, Toyota...

  • Comment removed

  • this is laser gun from fallout 2 ?

  • So, apparently it is just a stupid idea to spend a lot of money in a laser that barely can scratch a cover of a car.

Plasma is the future in weapons.

  • The End Of the World

  • That's Val Kilmer's technology of 1985, it was used to make popcorn. A lot.

  • I love this. One step closer to the coveted death ray.

    Choose death.

  • Fuck you guys, I think this is awesome. One step closer to getting me a lightsaber.

  • Apparently every one missed the end, when the fire goes out and you see the smoke billow from a hole straight through the truck.

  • Oh man, enemies of the US watch out! We now have the capability to burn the paint job on your car or vehicle with a multi-million dollar laser!

  • LOL

    our tax dollars at work.!

  • Boeing is a private company. You fail.

  • LOL ...that makes weapons which Uncle Sam purchases with our tax dollars.

    LOL you fail.

  • I watched the Future Weapons episode that talked about this. It works as designed but is very energy consuming. Functional, but not exactly practical (yet). BUT they are working on it.

  • It can barely do shit to a truck and it's supposed to stop missiles?

Another waste of the US tax money

  • I would guess that the heat from the laser would set off the explosive charge in the war head, but it might have higher output and without context of the laser....

  • If that's the case then why make that demonstration? It shows nothing.

Missiles already carry protection against high powered lasers aswell as other countermeasures. They are traveling at thousands and thousands of Km/h and now some can even preform evasive maneuvers midflight. You telling me that that thing is gonna target a missile traveling at hypersonic speed, shaking all over the place from the turbulence and focus enough energy in one small spot to burn through it's protection?

  • Actually, for use against missiles, the laser would be fired during the boost-phase, while the missile is moving much slower and in a more predictable trajectory, and while it still contains a large amount of volatile chemical propellant. It doesn't need to melt the warhead, it just needs to ignite the propellant and cause the missile to explode. It's a novel method for missile defense. Is it the best use of funds? I don't know. It is very cool though.

  • It's bullshit technology, somethign the deesigners got from watching Star Wars. Just another one of their projects that kept on going unchecked. Probably because someone was cashing in on the funds.

  • That will shurely bring peace and luck to the world...

  • Now the Air Force can remove the enemy's paintwork from several miles away - that'll piss them off!

  • Time to cut some birthday cakes... LOL!

  • This laser is in fact real. the FFFFF you heard was because the laser was continous. Lasers can't be seen because it is light. And can you see light? I don't think so.

  • Alright, I'll clear things up for some of you. I'm in the air force, and yes, this is REAL! Boeing is in fact making this laser. It's for missles, and they are also considering it for enemy personel to avoid unnecessary deaths that bombs and guns tend to do in an urban area. It would be like a sniper that doesn't have to worry about wind/distance.

  • They invented the First laser in 1964, It was powerful enought to kill a Human, and Melt through 1 inch Titanium instantly.

  • No.

  • really? looks like thermite to me.

  • No way thats thermite, thermite doesn't stop burning, it would go all the way through the engine block. That could be a laser, it turns off instantly like a laser would.

  • fake

  • It didnt get through, lame. But it would be deadly to the human face though. A person's eyes would boil if it got hit with that.

  • We made the laser...

Now WHERE'S THE FALKEN FOM THE ACE COMBAT SERIES?!

  • dats gonne be destructuve by 2015

  • This fake dude!! The REAL laser will blast a hole through this truck!! This must be the lasers they're using on the new M16 weapons coming out in 2012!

  • you're implying that 80% of the inhabits of the USA are users of illegal drugs?

    you're pretty retarded huh..

  • Dude, since when did I say anything about the diameter? At range, it was made to destroy targets up to 600 km away. You believe that hundreds of engineers could not have devised a way, to say, limit the spread of the beam? I have no doubt that the weapon, in practice, can fire at an object, say, a hundred kilometers away, or two hundred, or three hundred, and still have the laser power concentrated on an area the size of your hand, or, at worst, a human body/

  • "You believe that hundreds of engineers could not have devised a way, to say, limit the spread of the beam?"

When you hit the diffraction limit it you can throw a million engineers at it if you wish; it will be as futile as trying to repeal the second law of thermodynamics.

  • A non focused beam is nothing.

  • Actually, that laser is a coherent beam of light. Coherent means it spreads very little with distance, which is why an effective range of 600 km is possible. This would be most useful against missiles such as the Scud - and loger-ranged ones - especially in the boosting stage. And it could be fearful against an aircraft.

  • Precisely. I was addressing the fact that, though derived from chemical power, the beam is not like a pressurized water hose, but is indeed a laser. Kudos on presenting the facts.

  • If this is the publicly released version imagine what they're testing behind the scenes.

  • If anybody attacks us with a pickup truck I guess we can ruin their paint job.

  • lol

  • hmmm........now lets see what you can do with my bowl of burritos :D

  • If you'll listen closely, you'll hear alex jones ranting about spontaneous human combustion caused by this Laser..

  • i haz a mirror-shield!

  • It is not the size but where you hit the target. Planes and missiles will be very vulnerable. Now precision strikes can be done at the speed of light over several miles.

  • what a shitty weapon

  • i used to love burning ants with a magnifying glass... Now I can do it on a much larger scale... and get paid!

  • Really? Cuz it looks like thermite.

  • Reminds me of the cult classic movie from the 80's with Val Kilmer, Real Genius. Good times.
