Please, only positive comments! I will not allow La Lupe's name to be thrown around as a drug addict! She DID NOT use drugs! Is it really so hard to believe that someone can actually be truly eccentric and original? Please no drug comments! Or else be deleted! Long live the Queen! La Lupe! Drug free!
@chicodigital, I hade the opportunity to meet La Lupe and listen to her giving her testimony where she confess she was into santeria 100% and into drugs, specially Cocaine. At the end she left all that and became Christian.
Pacmann you're a coward.. Check yourself before judging anyone.. She was our influence our soul and our inspiration. Repect the queen of Latin soul! La yiyiyi!! R.I.P
I dont care about the cuban , puerto rrican, the latino and all the issues. i care about the icon, la yi yi yi, LA LUPE. she still sounds in my home today. And the day she had her debut in el teatro puerto rico, my mother was there and i was in a baby stroller sleeping with her wonderful sound.
@1msbracey eso lo dicen porque no nacio en el pais de ustedes, sino otro gallo cantaria.. solo cuba ha dado estos personajes inmortales... sino, porque fue la lupe y no otra del pais de ustedes..
sajomero: doesn't make a difference why she wasn't famous in cuba, though I understand the reasons.
What matters is that all Latinos, especially Puerto Ricans in NYC made her a star. so don't try to re-write history to exclude Boricuas from the picture.
she never did.
We are from different places but part of one whole.
I dont entirely agree with you Hastafuera. She's not famous in Cuba because its against the law to play her music. In many countries her music is still played today, not so in PR because of all the legal crap around it. She was boycotted by Ms Silva if you didnt know that. In the Dominican Republic you can tune into a radio station and they play her music on a daily basis. She is still huge there, a country which she also loved and still love her.
But, only thanks to Newyoricans and Puertoricans her memory is alive today. They did the job keeping her singing. She admitted it many times her love for Puerto Rico and the East Harlem.
I'm Cuban and love Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ohio, East and West Harlem and everything else.
A very, very special, dynamic, heart wrenching, profound, sensuous, fun & passionate artist! Generations to come will learn about her & come to love her work anew! Absolutely no doubt in my mind about that!
I love La Lupe. She has the most powerful and expressive voice of all Latin female singers I've ever heard. Celia Cruz didn't have so much emotion in her voice, as good as she was. La Lupe was "endiablada", inhabited by rhythm and she always looked like she was going to take it all off on stage so she would be more comfortable dancing. lol. I think the American public took her oddities and exotic charm superficially and this did her harm. Her boleros are truly heart-wrenching.
Hello friends, I am happy LA LUPE'S video has been viewed so many times. It truly is a blessing. I wanted LA LUPE'S music to be known and I think she is making a great comeback!
Please, do not add any negative comments on the comment section. I do not intend for LUPE to have a reputation as a drug user. She never did any drugs! She was eccentric and unusual but it doesn't endorse drug use. Thanks for all the positive comments and QUE VIVA LA LUPE! AHI-NA-MA
A lot of the mexicans don't really know of "La Lupe". There are more mexicans that know about her now due to Almodovars exposure of her music and also the documentary but they weren't really into La Lupe back when she was popular during the 1960's and 1970's. After La Lupe left Cuba she went to Mexico City to perform in several night clubs and cabarets but she didn't last long in Mexico City because most of the mexicans couldn't relate to her unique style of Latin Caribbean singing.
Dear SAP13NS, I am very proud that LA LUPE had a mexican sound finishing at the end of the clip. She was singing a traditional mexican song "en el rancho grande" and to finish off the tune they ended it the mexican way. I as a fan of LA LUPE and of mexican decent and I feel very proud to have LUPE sing a non-recorded tradtional mexican song. LA LUPE was indeed CUBAN but she is LATIN in all and that involves Mexico and all of Latin America and the Islands. Viva LA LUPE!
Ohh ok, didnt know she had sung a mexican song...I guess I'm just a little tired of it cause I'm in U.S. now and everybody asumes I'm Mexican just cause my name's Eduardo :@:@:@
la lupe is a bona-fide legend! ive never seen dick cavette get lose like that on his show with any other guest! she totally whipped him into a white boy frenzy! work it mama!
Hey Robert.. I am a brazilian who is very interested in knowing much more about La lupe..please let me know how can I reach yo so we can exchange info.
